My BK9 Fighter...in progress... UPDATE Pg. 4 & 5

Looks like I'm running to the machine shop tomorrow to work on the fuller...so that is a go. The sheath will be the last thing I worry about but I can't help but think that I'd like MyWifeThinksImCrazy to do a larger version of the BK2 version he did for maethor :)

Another issue I'm pondering is doing a full polish vs. doing what I did on my BK2. With the BK2 I stripped the blade, bead blasted the surface, then did a vinegar patina. It turned out really well which I'm positive was a result of the extra step of blasting the blade. I do like the idea of at least having the edges polished, though I know after the first sharpening they won't be polished anymore.

Some file work is likely in the works as well for both the spine and between the scales also.

Why did you strip the tang? What kind of precautions do you need to take to protect against rusting?

what is this rust you speak of? :)

he can always paint it with a clear coat, or for that matter, completely seal it in various compounds as a type of "liner" :> rhino guard :)

My BK2 is stripped underneath and I've never had an issue. With the scales being removable, I just take them off and clean. In any event, this may end up having scales epoxied on with brass pins which would not be removable, in which case I will do something underneath to protect the metal.

I can't wait to see the fuller!

It's sitting at the machine shop now. I dropped it off a bit ago. I would do it myself, but I've got to go back to work tomorrow and I'm impatient. Plus I trust my machinist friend.

I have to make a jig to hold the knife, or adjust the machine to cut at an angle. And then! erh... I'll see what I can do -_- Damn you're... calling me on my lazy...

Haha, not calling you on being lazy. Just wanting to see some more cool ideas come to life. :)

In all honesty, if/when I need to really repair an edge or work with one of my Becker's I'll do something cool. But right now, other than cut some bailing wire with my 2 I totally didn't realize was bailing wire till it was cut >.> they're pretty factory. And good from factory. Ima at least break them in till they need the work first >:-)

Oh my. What a tease that is. Very nice.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'm on my way to beckerhead status :P

Anyway, there will be more in store. Some file work, some pommel modification, and I'm leaning towards getting some chunks of g10 for scales...I kinda want to do brass pins instead of the oem bolts.

AWESOME!!!! Reminded me about my RD9 project I started awhile ago, but have yet to finish.

Just wish I had a belt sander to clean up better.

HOLY RAPTOR JESUS ON A MOPED, that is SWEET! Looks like a Ka-Bar fighter for the Hulk. Can't wait to see the finished product.

VERY, VERY COOL!
I love it!
