My first attempt

?! I’m speechless! That’s incredibly kind of you! I’ll have to find a way to pass the good deed along!

Leave flats , you will remove little steel from edge side .

Hi Natlek,

Hope all is well! I was wondering- how should I go about removing the material from the edge? Just keep filing in the jig but at a steeper angel? Or file horizontally across the edge? Or some other way I’m not thinking of?

Thanks!

If you choose to reprofile, do that directly as you did when you started. Then adjust the bevels if necessary. Just filing bevels at a steeper angle will not get you where you want to be.

You can reprofile edge side with angle grinder .Them mark center line on edge and start from there with bevels .And watch a few clips on you tube how to use a file correctly .

On next one , first grind plunges with round file on jig , that will help lot .

And I would modified little jig , add one more wood board in front and use longer bolt .That way your left hand would have more comfortable position while you filing .
You know that if you change the file, if the new one is not the same thickness as the previous one, the grinding angle will change, right ? It s all about geometry when you use file .If you raise one side to use edge for filing , filing angle would change ...etc

And don t rush , with file you can make on first try knife as like you make them 30 years .... :)

Got it, I’ll give it a shot! After this knife I think I’m going to make a entire new jig and make it nice. I think it would be a fun little project! I already have my next piece of steel and will definitely start with those plunge lines!

I was going to suggest black G10 pins too! Very easy to work with, doesn't burn quickly like brass can and will work pretty much the same as the wood handle scales, so its easier to keep the pins/handle flush and the same level without metal pins sticking up above the handle scales. I did my first couple from a chunk of 1/4" O-1 steel and using files.

Guys… I f****d up 😂😂😂

I got the blade wayyy to thin. I set my angel to shallow when draw filing. So not only did I screw up, but I spent all day doing it 🤣! I’ve removed material from the edge to get some width back but my original shape is pretty well shot. I need some tips to Bob Ross this thing and turn it into a “happy little accident” lol! Most guys leave .020-.040" at the edge before Heat Treating.

Maybe something like this? If you bring the area near the plunge cut up higher, you can reprofile and get some belly like a smaller Loveless Drop Point Hunter. Make the handle a bit slimmer maybe since it looks strange to have a wide handle and narrow blade IMHO

Having the plunge cut and guard meet up looks odd to me, so maybe bring the guard area back a bit further back so there is some room between the finger guard and the plunge cut? It will be hard to sharpen to the plunge cut with the finger guard there.

That’s kinda what I was thinking too, this really helps visualize it. Good point with the sharpening being difficult I’ll try to bring the finger guard back. Thanks!

I've made many bigger knives into smaller knives!

Loveless made a lot of awesome, well thought out designs. His Classic Hunter is a classic for a reason!

if it were me, I'd take that knife and put it away for the time being and then start again.

I think we might be back in action! Let me know if you still think I should still sidebar this one for now. Im eager to start on the next one knowing some of what I learned but this knife is like my child now, I just can’t give up on it 😂AFA3C703-0BFD-452F-A34D-C78E4D479CF9.jpegEC60DBDC-C800-4994-813A-082DAB4D5DD3.jpeg6951530D-6AD7-4F81-A7C2-46D6FD258E1F.jpeg85F956FC-BA5B-42DF-ADB8-D11F3284565F.jpeg
