Hello all! Thanks for reading my first post.
Same here. There is a fairly broad range of knives that all fit my general needs so there is no single ideal for me. Generally speaking anything from 1 to 3 blades in about a 3" - 4" closed length works for me, and I vary it up within those general parameters.
That may be the “perfect” knife! -LanceA square end stockmen, 4” or just under, with clip main, wharncliff and pen secondaries. And the wharncliff and pen reversed ends from normal (kinda like buck has done) to make them both open right handed. I actually had it built (with the added lockback main blade, which I am glad I did!).

Hello all! Thanks for reading my first post.
I typed out my my whole backstory on knives, guns, and tools but erased it as i know, to most, its just too much. In summary, like many of you, i find the use of traditional tools to be more meaningful and enjoyable. Dont get me wrong i still have a chainsaw, ar 15, and multiple modern folders i put to use but my scandinavian forest axe, lever/break action guns, and slipjoints are much more near and dear.
My daily carry is a gec bullnose with red linen micarta scales. I love it. The simple legendary sodbuster pattern, pull weight, half stops, and tight construction make it close to perfect for me. Give it dark green linen micarta scales, a clip point blade, made of.... M4 tool steel. You have my ideal carry knife. Whats yours?
Hell that'll work for me too ! ! ! !Give it dark green linen micarta scales, a clip point blade, made of.... M4 tool steel. You have my ideal carry knife. Whats yours?
Blade was too short anyway. But the blade has to have over 3 inches sharp and the handle has to be under 4 inches.
I am very fond of my pioneer. If i could only have one pocket tool that would be it. I cheat and call it a multitool if someone ask me the "just one knife" question.I could spend forever going on with asthetics and preferences, so I'll just throw those out the window and go simply with what works for me
For that it would have to be the Victorinox recruit.
There's a great deal of capability in this compact package, and it gets a lot done.
If I had to pick just one ideal knife this could be it, though I love other knives I own and hope that never happens.
O1 tool steel. The only power tool I have is a drill press and it’s fairly easy to work with and comes in a lot of different precision thicknesses so I didn’t have to worry about squaring everything up as much and the heat treat isn’t too difficult. That's telling 'em !
Sounds good to me. What steel is in your custom ?
Wouldnt it be sweet! I know that steel choice is not going to happen but the other two changes... heck id buy 4. One for myself and 3 for my boys.Hell that'll work for me too ! ! ! !
We're dreamers . . .![]()

Doesn't that sound like a 35 Churchill?Okay, just to daydream, here's my ideal edc design:
3.5 inches closed, single spring. I'd probably go with a canoe frame, but a cigar or chunky swell center would be great too.
Put a clip blade from a 3.5" barlow and a sheepsfoot from a 4" stockman at opposite ends.
All stainless construction with CPM-154 for the blades.
I could go any number of directions with the handle material and be happy.
What? I'm totally shockedDepends what I'm doing, but for a folder, for 95% of the stuff I do these days, I like something like this
