Hello all! Thanks for reading my first post.

Welcome on board my friend glad your here.:thumbsup::cool:

Same here. There is a fairly broad range of knives that all fit my general needs so there is no single ideal for me. Generally speaking anything from 1 to 3 blades in about a 3" - 4" closed length works for me, and I vary it up within those general parameters.

Amen John today my favorite is my #66 calf roper.

A square end stockmen, 4” or just under, with clip main, wharncliff and pen secondaries. And the wharncliff and pen reversed ends from normal (kinda like buck has done) to make them both open right handed. I actually had it built (with the added lockback main blade, which I am glad I did!).

That may be the “perfect” knife! -Lance

Okay, just to daydream, here's my ideal edc design:

3.5 inches closed, single spring. I'd probably go with a canoe frame, but a cigar or chunky swell center would be great too.
Put a clip blade from a 3.5" barlow and a sheepsfoot from a 4" stockman at opposite ends.
All stainless construction with CPM-154 for the blades.
I could go any number of directions with the handle material and be happy.

6574A2C6-01AB-413F-AB72-FC220CCE0FDB.jpeg I have found myself having to make mine. My ideal has the best handle to blade ratio. For some reason wasted space in a folder drives me nuts. I made one but the spring broke and I had it peened together with the pins expanded too much so it was too far gone by the time I was done to be anything but a pattern for the next one. Blade was too short anyway. But the blade has to have over 3 inches sharp and the handle has to be under 4 inches. This made it but just barely.

Hello all! Thanks for reading my first post.

I typed out my my whole backstory on knives, guns, and tools but erased it as i know, to most, its just too much. In summary, like many of you, i find the use of traditional tools to be more meaningful and enjoyable. Dont get me wrong i still have a chainsaw, ar 15, and multiple modern folders i put to use but my scandinavian forest axe, lever/break action guns, and slipjoints are much more near and dear.
My daily carry is a gec bullnose with red linen micarta scales. I love it. The simple legendary sodbuster pattern, pull weight, half stops, and tight construction make it close to perfect for me. Give it dark green linen micarta scales, a clip point blade, made of.... M4 tool steel. You have my ideal carry knife. Whats yours?

First off - welcome to BF! Next, that is a difficult question. My ideal (traditional) carry has evolved from drop point to spear point, from not liking stockmans to a stockman is the way to go, from 2 blades with one a small secondary to single blade, from small to medium to large sized knives, etc. Currently my ideal carry is a medium stockman with a punch/awl blade in CV steel.

Note: I recently received a natural micarta bull nose GEC thinking it would be a catch-and-release. But I am really liking it and I believe this will be next EDC as soon as I decide on a lanyard for it.

I could spend forever going on with asthetics and preferences, so I'll just throw those out the window and go simply with what works for me

For that it would have to be the Victorinox recruit.

There's a great deal of capability in this compact package, and it gets a lot done.
If I had to pick just one ideal knife this could be it, though I love other knives I own and hope that never happens.
I am very fond of my pioneer. If i could only have one pocket tool that would be it. I cheat and call it a multitool if someone ask me the "just one knife" question.

That's telling 'em !
Sounds good to me. What steel is in your custom ?
O1 tool steel. The only power tool I have is a drill press and it’s fairly easy to work with and comes in a lot of different precision thicknesses so I didn’t have to worry about squaring everything up as much and the heat treat isn’t too difficult.

Currently my alox electrician 3yrs steady along with 303 stockman.left front pocket and right respectively. The 303 sits next to aaa flashlight. However my ideal using knife would be a Camillus 72 stainless.Great to near perfect size for my hands

Around the house and property I'm finding a Case tribal lock to be almost ideal, but I always supplement it with something small (peanut, small stockman, small pen, etc.) for whenever the task requires a fine point or a tiny blade. I carry it in a horizontal cross-draw sheath. Kind of reminds me of my days of always wearing my Buck 110, but thinner and lighter.

Doesn't that sound like a 35 Churchill?
