My INFI is sharp

its a forum, its for people to talk about a common subject. seriously if someone believed their blade wasn't all that sharp out of the box where should they talk about it if not here?

Where? How's about 419-923-6471? Maybe I'm from a different school of thought, but I believe that one should give a company a chance to make things right by the customer before the customer complains publicly. Some posts might be missed by Amy, Garth & Jerry here, but they will certainly not miss the issue if you call them and give them the opportunity to correct the problem. And you know that they will strive to make you happy if you give them the chance to do so.

"plenty" is a very relative word. It leaves alot of room for personal interpritation.

Yes it does...

this is the part that made me aprehensive about repsponding to this post, you are implying by its location in this thread, that speaking out about an edge out of the box, and jerry's character are somehow one in the same.

I only mentioned (and i'm not even sure if i left it posted the way i originally worded it) If the first half inch of my blade wasn't so god awefully impressive, and i do mean sharp like i have never seen before the rest of the blade wouldn't have seemed so OK in nature. I do appreciate the fact that there was a difference because the first 1/2" did tell me where par was set, and so i had some work to do with the rest of it.

There should be some true shame attached to the idea someone purchased a combat blade and sent it back to anyone elde for an edge much less the manufacturer. Something i would not concider, and yet you imply that it might be normal or just accpetable to you. just an observation.

I don't know if I'm reading this right, but personally, if I'm not happy with a knife, I will call and ask what can be done about it. Never has Busse let me down. I really do suggest giving them the chance to make things right, because I believe that everyone makes mistakes, and in this case, Busse Combat really wants to satisfy the customer who has a legitimate issue, such as a 'dull' edge on a new knife. There is no shame in asking for a legitimate issue to be resolved to your satisfaction.

My FSH came with a good working edge for a big chopper. It chops well, removes large chips, can make fuzz sticks, and is an obtuse enough angle to be sturdy when chopping.

My NMSFNO, another 8" camp style knife, came so dull it was a terrible chopper, could not make decent fuzz sticks, and took a LOT of effort to baton through logs.

Two very similar hard use knives, with very similar purposes, and WILDLY varying edge quality. This isn't some distinction between the type of edge that's most suited for a knife - it's poor quality control.

And did you send it back? One sure way to alert Busse to the QC issue is to bring it to their attention by asking them to resharpen the knife, not complaining here first. I'm not saying that you have no right to complain, BUT... I do believe that one should give them the chance to make it right first before airing the issue here.

Just my $0.02... :)

I've already explained that I know how to sharpen a knife, so sending it back isn't worth the effort - the point is that I shouldn't HAVE to send it back OR sharpen it before using it.

And threads like this let customers find out that their sharpness issues are NOT isolated. That's important, to keep US informed as much as to keep Busse informed.

(sorry for the terse reply - typing on a iPhone takes forever ;) )

I have read this thread and all of the others that seem to pop up time after time.....:)

If you are unhappy with the sharpness of your blade...CALL US:) or e-mail us ...heck....e-mail me direct at amy@bussecombat.com or pm me:)

Or feel feel to call us 419-923-6471 M-F 9am to 5pm

Please don't take this the wrong way... But are you saying that you'd rather complain publicly about a problem rather than letting Busse (or any company for that matter) have a chance to correct the issue first?

Look, I'll be honest with you. I once received a Busse with part of the edge fairly dull. BUT, I called Busse and spoke to Amy, who immediately asked me to send it in, which I did. They quickly resolved the problem and put a wicked edge on it and had it back in my hands PDQ. They refunded my shipping. They made me a satisfied and happy customer. They continue to get my business.

See how this addresses the problem and more importantly, what they did to correct it to my satisfaction??? Threads like this need to show how Busse will strive to make things right as well.

Again, just my opinion.

Oh My:eek::eek:

How about we all just pull a Jerry Busse:D:D

I think that is the best advice I have heard all day. Life is too short.:)

Thanks Amy, you truly ROCK!!!:thumbup::D

I see your point, Jaxx, but I will offer a different perspective....

My thoughts here are a bit jumbled, so I will try to keep it as organized as clear as possible.

First off, realize that it wasn't me, or anyone else who has a complaint about blade sharpness, who started this thread. It was David Brown, who is a person who has been happy with the sharpness of every blade he's gotten from Busse, and was confused about the comments about Busse sharpness.

I have recently only really mentioned blade sharpness in the context of Killa Zilla test team comments. And those comments were sent to both Jerry and Amy many months ago. The test team was also a unique situation in that, to keep the test results honest, they actually would NOT reprofile the edge on the killa zilla, and I explicitly asked if this could be done. I was trying to not mention this in a public place, as it was part of a discussion between myself and the Busse crew, but several folks have attempted to "call me out" for not addressing this directly with Busse, when in fact I did exactly that.

More importantly, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT an isolated issue, and if folks weren't discussing this, whether in the form of cracking jokes, or starting new threads to complain, people would have no idea how widespread the problem is. I think, as customers of high end semi-custom blades, we do deserve to know that there's a decent chance that knives we purchase may end up being shipped to us in a less than optimally sharp condition. Threads like this inform the customer base of a very expensive knife so they can make informed decisions.

Lastly, a point I wanted to make from a very different perspective. A year ago, at BLADE, I purchased four Busse knives. Not one of them was sharpened to a level that I would call adequately sharp for their intended purposes. Not one.

Honestly, I didn't sit down and test all nine Busse family knives I bought at that show, so I didn't immediately make the connection that the INFI blades all happened to be dull. It was only later, after putting the NMSFNO and Killa Zilla to use, that I figured out the sharpness issue.

Here's the important bit - without threads like these, I would have blamed the lackluster performance of my INFI blades on the steel, or the specific knives. I was VERY, VERY close to selling my NMSFNO, until I did some searching, and found out from forum discussions such as these that lack of sharpness from the factory was a common issue with Busse knives. It had NEVER CROSSED MY MIND that my NMSFNO performed like crap because it wasn't sharp. I hadn't even fathomed the idea that a $400 knife wouldn't be sharp. I didn't test it on paper or tomatoes because that's not the job it was made for - I chopped crap with it, and it chopped like crap. Then I found out that lots of people have gotten dull Busse's, and I went and sharpened it up, and fell in love with the knife.

Without discussions such as these, to enlighten me about why my knives weren't performing up to expectations, I very well may have never bought another INFI blade

Hi Amy! :)

Look, I'm not trying to snowball this thread into a monster here, but it needs to be said that although mistakes happen, it is equally as important to address how well you and the Busse Crew handle QC issues, and I think that you (& Busse) care very much about our satisfaction as it shows every time I call, regardless of why I call. I am sorry that others refuse to allow you guys the chance to make them as happy with their purchases as y'all have made me feel with mine.

As always... THANK YOU!

And in a funny little twist of fate.... I just received my latest INFI blade...

And it's one of the sharpest knives I've ever gotten out of Ohio. :D

I have tried to point out several times in this thread that the customer service is absolutely top notch from the Busse crew. But emailing Amy-O to get my knife sent in to the factory is just not gonna happen. I will never mail a knife to someone to get it simply sharpened, period. I know how to sharpen them.

The only exception to this would have been the killa zilla, because I wanted the knife drastically reprofiled, and I wasn't willing to do that myself to an $800 knife.

Amy-O has been absolutely phenomenal at providing excellent customer service to me and to every person I've ever spoken to. This is not a problem with customer service, at all, and I would never pin this on the customer service folks. I keep buying INFI, yes even dull INFI, specifically because this company treats their customers right no matter what.

And also because the steel is pretty neat ;)

Look, I understand your points and I also have read many posts/threads concerning Busse and the sharpness issue over the years.

What I'm trying to say is that these knives aren't cheap in any sense of the word from price to quality. This is why Busse stands behind their knives and is willing to do what's necessary to make things right...

Give them the chance if you have an issue. Tell them directly via phone or email if you aren't happy with your knife. Customer feedback is important to a company who cares.

I'm not saying don't complain, I'm saying that you will get no satisfaction if you complain here, but refuse to take advantage of Busse Combat's wonderful customer service. I've read your posts and if I didn't know anything about Busse Combat, I would assume that you got no satisfaction from Busse first about your issues, and consequently I would avoid them thinking that their CS doesn't care about the customer's long term satisfaction, which we all know here to be very far from the truth in that they DO care, and WILL make it right IF YOU LET THEM.

Just sayin'. :)

They come sharp enough for me, I reprofile mine anyway on my Edge Pro. :D

Well, my last thought on the subject is this..

Its clear as day, that Busse will make anything right in the blink of an eye if you call them and sort them out.. And if you dont know how to sharpen a knife, then its great to post it in and get that sorted..

I'm in New Zealand.. Shipping cost turnaround for a sharpen is about $80USD. Doesn't matter how good the service is.. Thats never going to happen.. Better for a public Busse forum to be able to discuss these things and try to get Busse to make sure their wonderful Customer Service does not need to be called on at all..

To send a knife back because its Cracked, deformed, or Bad HT I can understand.. but to sharpen it is senseless..

Of Course.. you can spin it the other way.. The happy way I like to consider it..

Busse Knives come from the factory with a reasonable edge bevel waiting for you to tailor it to your specific sharpness needs. Now with this blurb.. I'd have no feeling of dissapointment when a knife that costs me DOUBLE because of the exchange rate and shipping and taxes... my NMSFNO was very dissapointing at first.. Now I Love it.

But I'd much rather that there was a better finished edge on them every time. who wouldn't.. at the end of the day a knife is for cutting.. the more polished and refined the edge the better it will serve its purpose.

If we didn't all love Busses we wouldn't be here. If there is a problem with a Busse's edge, they will make it right. They have been getting sharper lately, except for my KZ. That knife required a bit more than just sharpening. But it is a test model. So I did what I thought it needed and drove on like a ranger. My recent Swamp Rats have come plenty sharp, and they are from the same place. I am quite sure that by now Jerry is working on making sure each Busse is Swine Shaving Sharp. Let's lighten up a bit, guys.

Guys face it - We are sometimes victims of our own success, meaning the marketing is great and everything else is expected to be on par as well

Whether you are a buyer or seller - that's just the way it is in business

If you never compromise your success, then you will never compromise success

I understand the human element, but when you build it, they expect to come ;) People don't always understand that Jerry and Garth do not make every single blade :)

For those who complain, walk in the shoes you look at, but be a gentleman in the way you handle it, and life will be polite to you

This ain't NYC ;)

Man oh man this spun out quite a bit did it not.

Again I did not mean to hurt any ones feelings or "call anyone out", no not at all.

I was honestly curious as to why there were public complaints ?

I do believe that has been answered completely.

Of course I believe a knife, yes even a combat knife should be sharp, it is a bit odd any one should think other wise.

I clearly stated that my INFI was sharp, and offered myopinion as to why they may not be super swine shaving sharp, or up to your standards, what ever they may be or who ever you are.

My definition of sharp may differ from yours, in fact I am sure it does.

If they were "dull as a butter knife" (I honestly think that may be a bit of an exaggeration ;) )well that is not my experience, therefor the reason for the question in the original post.

My INFI is sharp.

Again please I do not want to offend or argue with anyone that is not my intent at all. If you choose to argue or make a point sorry about that I think all the points that those who have felt the need to have been made.

I am sorry if this has caused anyone undue drama.

I am just a poor kydex cobbler trying to understand :)

Now Lets friggin

Drink some
