My INFI is sharp

Man oh man this spun out quite a bit did it not.

Again I did not mean to hurt any ones feelings or "call anyone out", no not at all.

I was honestly curious as to why there were public complaints ?

I do believe that has been answered completely.

Of course I believe a knife, yes even a combat knife should be sharp, it is a bit odd any one should think other wise.

I clearly stated that my INFI was sharp, and offered myopinion as to why they may not be super swine shaving sharp, or up to your standards, what ever they may be or who ever you are.

My definition of sharp may differ from yours, in fact I am sure it does.

If they were "dull as a butter knife" (I honestly think that may be a bit of an exaggeration ;) )well that is not my experience, therefor the reason for the question in the original post.

My INFI is sharp.

Again please I do not want to offend or argue with anyone that is not my intent at all. If you choose to argue or make a point sorry about that I think all the points that those who have felt the need to have been made.

I am sorry if this has caused anyone undue drama.

I am just a poor kydex cobbler trying to understand :)

Now Lets friggin

Drink some

Root Beer

Yes, Root Beer . . . Mmmmmmm!:)

No drama here, Dave - I actually find these threads incredibly helpful, not only to see things from others' perspectives, but to see what the group's experience as a whole has been. I've had several very interesting and informative discussions via PMs and email with folks who have thoughts both similar to and very different from my own. It's been a very enlightening discussion and thank you for bringing it up.

It seems to me Dave Brown likes his knives as sharp as possible...this way when he is splitting bullets there is less ricochet.:D:thumbup:

Of the limited Busse Knives I own, the sharpest was the ratweiler, which was incredibley sharp. The others were second hand so I can't say how they were from the factory. I am like alot of you in that I expect them to be sharp, but always feel I can get them just a little better, and thats part of the fun for me.

Good thread, Thanks everyone.

but more importantly, which Root Beer is best for sharpening INFI?

me, I prefer Virgil's Bavarian Nutmeg Root Beer, all natural, micro-brewed, and priced like INFI @ ~$5/16oz bottle...

This award-winning root beer is brewed with all natural ingredients. The well water used in this special edition root beer comes from the Bohemian Forest region of Bavaria, one of the purest sources in the world for water. A hearty, full-bodied brew, bottled in Virgil's original spring-top stopper, Bavarian Nutmeg is dedicated to the root beer purist.

All natural ingredients - anise, honey, licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, wintergreen, cassia oil, sweet birch and molasses. No preservatives, no artificial flavors.

Now I want root beer and there's none around

Thanks. and most of my knives came sharp and those that didn't I sharpened. Infi sharpens up nicely as you may have noticed:):)

Maybe I'm from a different school of thought, but I believe that one should give a company a chance to make things right by the customer before the customer complains publicly.

Maybe you misunderstand my school of thought all together. I would only complain to a company if I thought the Temper was screwed. I will sharpen my blade myself, its what i have to do after i use it anyway. I think that part was missed all together.

Most all information on the BUSSE company that people acquire is from the INTERNET. Or did you learn all your INFI lore from personal phone time with the man? I would be betting if it was that most of us learned about most, all, and everything online. So why is it still so reproachable to make comment or question online? hell half the busse company doesn't have a phone line, its email only. So I think this aversion to internet activity is misplaced.

A difference of opinion on sharpness of a blade is completely inconclusive. How many of those people have actually said that the same blade was trash or not worth the money,,, 0?

Saying you thought the INFI would be more impressive at the edge? Lets be candid here, if someone has some other experience with 400+ dollar customs and productions, OR for the others that drool over the BUSSE-kin knife porn have seen INFI owners showing photo evidence of shaving hairs in half, and all the other folks cheering it on, about how scary sharp the blades are, and how awesome they are, and NOT ONE of you said "I wish mine had come like that out of the box!",,,So if some people have fixated on those shots of split hairs and then got their first from the source and said,,,,"hummmmm, great balance, nice blade, great handling,, hey wait a minute, this blade won't do what those guys said it would?" ..."Let me go see what they say about this?"(man says to himself)

None of the above should be personal insult, i think I must have missed something in a sticky somewhere about the compliant operation, how is this wrong? I guess I am missing the point, I thought the way these issued were handled online in public !!WAS the GREAT thing!!! about the company. Why should a company with their customer service record discourage the open discussion of this stuff, when its their shining star?

I wanted some root beer, but all I had was Macallan 18 year old, so I settled for that.

I'm out too, so I settled for the 2009 George T Stagg barrel strength Bourbon @ 141.4 proof.

(cheers)

Root Beer resupply run tomorrow though.

I'm thinking of picking up some good bourbon. I've always been a scotch man, and about as fancy as I've gotten with bourbon was some Evan Williams. I think a nice pappy is in my future...

Pappy 15yr is the sweet spot of their line (IMO) @ 107 proof and TONS of amazing flavor for ~$50. It's bold, spicy, smooth, and utterly f--king delicious. Frankly, if I could only have one Bourbon in the world for the rest of my life it would be this one... I buy and stock as much as I can afford...

the 12yr, generally referred to as "Lot B", is also a fantastic Bourbon @ 90.4 proof and ~$40/750ml - it's my second favorite Van Winkle Bourbon.

I also like the 10yr/107 proof Bourbon, and the 20yr/90.4 proof Bourbon, and of course the 13yr Rye which is my all-time favorite whiskey of any sort.

Julian (VW) and crew make what I think is the very best Bourbon and Rye out there, at any price, though I also enjoy several other brands/expressions.

Where? How's about 419-923-6471? Maybe I'm from a different school of thought, but I believe that one should give a company a chance to make things right by the customer before the customer complains publicly. Some posts might be missed by Amy, Garth & Jerry here, but they will certainly not miss the issue if you call them and give them the opportunity to correct the problem. And you know that they will strive to make you happy if you give them the chance to do so.

Yes it does...

I don't know if I'm reading this right, but personally, if I'm not happy with a knife, I will call and ask what can be done about it. Never has Busse let me down. I really do suggest giving them the chance to make things right, because I believe that everyone makes mistakes, and in this case, Busse Combat really wants to satisfy the customer who has a legitimate issue, such as a 'dull' edge on a new knife. There is no shame in asking for a legitimate issue to be resolved to your satisfaction.

And did you send it back? One sure way to alert Busse to the QC issue is to bring it to their attention by asking them to resharpen the knife, not complaining here first. I'm not saying that you have no right to complain, BUT... I do believe that one should give them the chance to make it right first before airing the issue here.

Just my $0.02... :)

I dont see that anyone was particularly "badmouthing" the sharpness of their knives, rather asking is it something that should be brought to the attention of the Busse company, or has already done so. As said below in my other reply to ron_m80, some customers come upon their knives in other ways rather than from one of the Busse outlets, I think best to contact any company with complaints giving them the opportunity to correct what may or may not be their fault, before smearing them if that is the intention of the buyer. Most anyone would find on this forum Busse stands behind their product 100%.

I also agree that this is the Busse forum sponsered and moderated by Busse employees. Not all customers of Busse Combat come to own their blades from the factory and do not know what they may be buying. This forum is where they should be able to come to make a knowledgable (good or otherwise) of the particular product they are looking for. Some may want to know what they can do if a blade does show up on their door step on the less sharp side. Most of us know you contact Busse and they fix it. I know I use the forum as a guide all the time.

I have complete confidence in Busse CS, but shipping a knife back for us 'foreigners' is simply not an option. Costs and customs preclude it.

in the famous words in cool hand luke, "what we have hear is a failure to communicate"
and "i wish you would stop being so good to me captain" that is funny to me.

and remember boys "keep um sharp"

got me a brand spankin new ratmandu and scrapper 5----wooof and a vex on tha way with a buy brown sheath and a tek lok and i wanna bushwhacker!!!!

I really don't expect them to be air bleeding sharp, Busse supplies the test paper that the new knife sliced in the box with it.

If it cuts paper it's plenty sharp enough out of the box, if one wants better than that they need to polish the edge once they get it like I do. :)
