My new Strider SNG......Interesting.

I wish someone could actually explain what a $400.00 knife should be?

You can get a knife for under $50 that will do 95% of anything you need a knife to do as an EDC, everything else is just a preference and a hobby.

To say that a CRK is worth $400.00 or a ZT is worth X, or a Strider is NOT worth $400.00 can't even be considered an opinion, rather useless babble.....

It's hard to justify the price of anything beyond what it's worth to you, and it's a very useless and difficult conversation to have, or to justify to anyone but yourself....

Well said Alex!!

I have never owned or held a CRK, but I have owned 3 striders now and all have been excellent. I love the fit and finish. But most of all, I love the durability and tank like strength of these things.

Like Alex said, it's all subjective. And everyone's going to have a different opinion on what they think its worth, or not worth. Some could look at a CRK ans say that a plain version is not worth 400$+ for plain slabs of Ti. Some people could also say that just because it's smooth and has tight tolerances, it's got to be worth that.

It's like trying to justify why am LTZ trim model chevy is better or worse than a Lariat trim model f150. They are both going to do the same things just differently. Don't know if I just made sense or not. Been a long day.

With that being said, I would like to handle a CRK and see what it's like. But in the meantime, I love my SNG.

Rev is not just a 'moderator' he's a moderator who has great judgement about when threads are headed off the cliff.....like this one.

Maybe if the two of you could please stop the back and forth useless, and sometimes personal jousting, and get back to what this thread was two pages ago, it won't get locked.

I understand that there is a ton of passion for both these brands, but that doesn't mean that the blinders have to come on.

I was hoping to come back to this thread and what was a good discussion could continue, but obviously that was just never going to happen. Maybe the next one.

This thread has gone about as well as it could. When you open up this discussion, it's almost inevitable.

Mostly because there IS no discussion to be had. Only personal preferences, and how exactly can we come to a conclusion based on those? These threads always end at "like what you like, let others do the same"

That's really all there is to it. I think a big reason these threads keep coming up is because people just want to talk about these things. Which is fine, but just don't expect any type of consensus to arise

Now that's one I wouldn't mind owning!

I have to admit, there's just something about the LOOKS of striders that I absolutely love:thumbup:

I also really love the look of the strikers. There is just something about it that I cannot explain. I love the DGG look the best. But in the short time I owned one, it started to shred my pants pockets.

I have SNGs, Sebenza 25s, XM-18s and ZTs, all are similar, very well made but very different, what they are worth is only what you are willing to pay for them.
Each time I carry one, they all give me a different feeling, I like them all. That being said I can understand what the OP meant, my SNG Lego does not feel as polished as the others but at the same time, its rawness is what is appealing about it. My SNG DGG on the other hand feels more refined but just as rugged. The Sebenzas are incredibly consistent in fit and finish beautifully made, feeling both rugged and precise. Of the four brands the XM-18s feel the most hand made, again super knives that are different in feel but not in value. Lastly the ZTs feel like they are mad by very detail attentive super robots. All of them are great knives, gladly I get to keep them all in my rotation

Yep, the looks are my favorite part for sure. If only the fit and finish was up to sebenza level. Maybe mick will leave the designs to CRK in his will? :D

Just imagine an SNG with a slightly thinner blade and CRK tolerences and fit and finish :thumbup:

Don't have a Hinderer, but have a few ZT's. I will say, you have the same feelings I do about the others.

Not sure if I would want a Strider with the extremely tight tolerances and F&F of a CRK. I feel it would take something away from the tool look of the knife. The CRK 25 was the first knife that I could not find a single flaw or blemish......It was over the top.

I can see why many people do not use their CRK's which is a shame. They are really great knives and deserved to be used. I think a well used CRK is better looking then a new one.

The improved fit and finish would actually help it be a BETTER tool, so I only see it making me MORE likely to use it. As would almost any other rational person.

I'm not talking about making it a pretty knife, just one that fits together perfectly

I guess I got lucky, the only Strider I own is a SMF made in 2013 and it has no issues. Nothing! The lockup is perfect, the grind is too, blade is centered, it came shaving sharp. In fact it feels super solid locked open, no play at all. I don't feel it cost too much, after all it's made where people are paid a decent wage and I'd rather pay what it costs than buy something where people may not be earning a fair wage.

Hey Jill...

I don't now if it's luck on your part, or if the Strider production issues are overblown. I'm on my 6th or 7th SnG, I've had an older RCC, and 3 or 4 PTs. None of them... from the earliest SnG 5 or 6 years ago to the newest generation ones... none of them have had any issues with F&F, lockup, blade centering, edge chipping, or anything else. I've never even had one where the pivot screw wouldn't stay tight without any help from Loctite. If the issues are so widespread, I can't believe I'm that lucky.

And before the issue comes up, if I own it I carry it and use it. My SnGs have gone to work in the warehouse, handled home chores, gone camping, killed ticks, anything that any of my other folders do. No drawer queens here except a retired Cold Steel Clipmate and a couple of carbon fiber Delicas.

You do have a nice SMF!! The one I had, that is exactly like yours, was the smoothest knife have ever owned. Also had a great fit and finish, and solid lockup. My current SNG is not as smooth, but super solid and a great steel. I love the PD1 so far. I have been beating on it for the last two weeks and it has yet to need a sharpening.

I still want to hold and see what a CRK is all about.

Well put! I am the same. If I own it, it gets used. From my SNG to my Alan Davis and Trevor McDonough Abrams. I use them all for everything.

These forums scared me away from Strider for a long time. All the complaints about fit and finish, blade centering, and lock stick. I bought a SnG used and it is perfect.:D I wanted an orange handled one really bad and got it. Maybe the lack of quality compared to a Sebenza is the G10 scale? I love both my large 21 and my SnG and rotate them through edc. All those complaints about Emersons make me scratch my head also. I have two both are great. Not perfect finish but that is not what they are made for.

They are both very nice knives, IMO and I plan to hang onto both. There's differences in them, but it's in good ways, nothing negative!

I'm a guy who doesn't like choils that eat up cutting edge, nor do I like frame locks that aren't titanium on both sides of the handle. Striders are the only knives with these two features I'd even consider owning again in this price point. I never bought a Strider expecting it be better than my CRK, just different.

I would agree. I think that there are a lot of positives for both knives.

Mine just received a war wound 15 minutes ago. It clipped itself to a suitcase I was loading into a car. Fell onto the ground, and I stepped on it when I was catching my balance. Haha. Now it has some more character.

How does that Cerakote hold up?
