My next Russ Andrews knife

I was blown away by Russ' sub-hilt stag bowie at Blade. Actually thought it was the finest Bowie there.
This piece seems to posses all the magnificent workmanship of that piece. In addition, the blade profile, fittings, handle shape, symmetry all work to create a very special fighter. I must say though that IMO, that ivory adds nothing.

See, on this, I will disagree.

1. I am not crazy about the subhilt shaping, the choice is more Herron, than Loveless to me, but this is Russ's style. My issue with it is the rigidity of the angles....they seem unwelcoming, and cold, design wise, contrasted with the completely warm and welcoming/familiar blade shape.

2. The ivory is one of only two other choices that I could see, highly figured and colored stag, or highly colored ivory....the tapioca is spectacular to see, and I could detect no cracks to take away from it.....that is super rare.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well STeven, if we would have agreed on two post in a row, I would have hit the floor for sure. ;) :D
I applaud Russ' tenacity to invoke his own style over that of Loveless.

WOW, she turned out fantastic Russ, absolutely beautiful. ;) Keith your one lucky son of a gun.

It has been interesting reading all the differing opinions on this knife. I'm glad that it elicited enough interest for all these comments to have been made.

I personally love the ivory and the look of this knife. Originally Russ and I discussed a more Loveless like design, but after awhile it was decided just to have Russ make a subhilt the way he thought it should be. I'm thrilled with how it turned out.

Here are the last three images until Coop does his magic. The first one is fuzzy, but you will get a good idea what the buttcap looks like. The inlay on the sheath is ostrich.

I think this turned out to be a spectacular knife! Russ pulled out all of the guns on this one and I love the results. And, we were able to follow its progress to boot. Can't wait to see Coop's images.

the knife doesn't need a great photo. Such amazing lines. For an inanimate object it sure looks like it's moving to me:)

That is an awesome knife. I really like the ivory in it. I really can't wait for my knife from Russ!

I'm not sure what it is about the finish on Russ' damascus fittings, but they look fantatsic - here is a non-blurry pic of one such butt cap (cropped out of a full size Coop montage):

Can't wait to see what Coop does with yours, Keith. And I'm ready to chip in to have him shoot the stag subhilt that was an Andrews MS test piece - I just want to see that beautiful knife again!

Patience brother ...... let me get back from Italy in a few weeks and I'll get the camera on it!

I personally think that Keith should send this one to me, they would make a beautiful pair :D Congrats to Russ and Keith on an exceptional piece.

Thanks everybody. I really do appreciate all the comments, pro and con.

Coop got the knife today, but he is really busy. It will probably be a few weeks until he can get around to my knife.

The blade on the Russ Andrews knife is truly magnificent.......

All the best,

The knife and photos arrived today. The knife, sheath and photos are all fantastic. I've only had an hour or so to check things out, but so far i am incredibly impressed.
