My snark-shake brings all the boys to the yard...

A shock collar on an 8 week old puppy is a bit extreme. Those things are rarely ever used properly and when used on a little puppy when it has an avvidemt might lead it to think you don't want it to pee at all and it will end up going somewhere to hide and pee. A stern "NO" should get it to stop and then you can adjust him to where he should be going. You have to be careful with those pads too. If it thinks it is supposed to pee on the thing on the floor, things like a shirt laying next to a hamper or a towel also become pads. The best thing is to get the pup outside very frequently and get him used to going outside and not inside at all.

Id prefer that too ac, but the vet is saying all puppies are suppose to stay inside until all their shots are complete. He is 12 weeks now though. And gets his 3rd set of shots next month.

I could: understand not taking him for walks yet, but if I had any sort of a back yard I wouldn't worry about it.

Just got out of the shower, got home a little after 5:00 a.m. been working at my buddies truck shop today, get this, I went in at 9:00 a.m. and just got home like I said a little after 5 a.m. I'm beat. Thought id see what's up on BF. To tierd to read it all now. Hittin the sack, and up in a few hours to work another 12 hours in my shop tomorrow. No rest for the wicked. I guess I'm some sort of sick bastard. I actually enjoy this. (Could of done without the 19 hr. Work day today though) hope that doesn't happen every Saturday, we did get some cool sh!t done/made tonight though.

I had already stripped the blade on my 16 some time ago, but I was a bit annoyed with the paint still being on the exposed pieces of tang. Fixing that as we speak. Stripper has been applied to some spots here and there. Definitely not on the main flat area of the tang though, I think it'd be better if I kept the paint on those spots underneath the scales.

Hey WW,

The vet is overreacting. You want to avoid taking the little guy to areas frequented by other dogs, but you don't need to keep him indoors for 12 weeks. You just want to avoid exposing him to areas where dogs are doing their business. If you are in such an a place, just pick up your boy and carry him away from that area.

Gus hit the nail on the head. Yes, puppies can pick up disease or parasites from being around other dogs and/or their waste products. Fleas, worms and other parasites can even migrate through the grass from the neighbors' yards...but I don't think this is a real risk at this time of year. Likewise not many mosquitoes to carry heart worm this time of year unless you live south of the border (or the equator).

I'm starting to question how "smart" Smartpost really is.

I have been questioning this myself. My verdict, pretty dumb. They already have it in the city where it belongs but instead of going ahead and delivering it, they drop it off with another carrier and then they have to process it before they can deliver it, normally taking another day completely.

Gus and GSO,

Well.... Now i feel like i really should keep him indoors if that is the case.

This is Philly... I live dead in the middle of the city.... There is no paths, fields, or parks close bye for people to walk dogs, yet LOADS of people have dogs. So this means you cant walk a couple hundred feet without running into dog crap on the sidewalks and road because people are too damn lazy to clean up after their dogs. Before the vet told me not to take him out i was cleaning up after him when finished his business, but around here most people dont even bother.....

I have lazy neighbors with dogs....... that pretty much makes the area i live in very dangerous for the puppy :(

TBL,

Ill look into those some more, i think he might like that better actually, Thanks for the suggestion bro.

No problem!

I have a buddy of mine that uses one during the winter. He keeps it by his back door and when the pad is not there in the summer the dog automatically goes to the back door and barks to get let out.

Smartpost like the mail man post?

The board is not letting me multi-quote or post longer messages :(
Works for me, maybe it just doesn't like you :-p

Do you have a back yard? That might be your best bet for where to take him out or let him play outside at.

Todd, get some sleep man. Not to sound crass but you're no good to anyone dead. You're going to need some sleep before too long!

I already knew it didnt like me LOL

No backyard.... Well, i do have a little area behind my house thats about 5'x10'.... But the neighbor always leaves their raggedy chihuahua out back and it poops on the fence line and they leave it there like nasty... nevermind, backyard not an option. Even if the chihuahua wasnt there, stray cats hang out back there often.

Philly really is the devils toilet. Satan crapped and out came Philly.
