That is great news!

Re pneumonia: it primarily means a fluid build up in the lungs. It commonly comes from lung infections, but chemicals and systemic illnesses can cause the fluid buildup.

Good to hear of the improvements! My best goes out to you and your wife, you'll love her even more than before when she's back home healthy. Stay positive and keep your strength, the Doctors can measure blood count/temperature/etc but the intangibles are what sometimes matter the most (as you're proving). Take much, much care.

I'm happy to hear that things are getting better. You have my best wishes and I will keep you both in my thoughts.

I am so deeply sorry to hear and hope for the best. My prayers are with the both of you and sincerly hope that she gets better. God bless you and i shall keep you 2 in my thoughts

Three weeks ago, my ex had heart surgery. She came out of it looking so bad I could have cried, but we had to stay positiive to encourage her own good attitude. She was home in less than a week, and has been improving since.

It hurts to hear of people in such pain. I'm glad you were able to stay strong to support your wife. Never give up! Look how she's already confounded the conventional wisdom. I'll turn my tears and my prayers to hope for her complete recovery.

I've been praying for you and your wife since I first spotted this thread. I am glad to hear things are taking a positive turn.

Things at the hospital have begun taking a few turns for the better since yesterday...

..Now the family's prayer focus is on the healing of Sue's lungs from the massive fluid build-up...

Hi Mike,
Is there any more news about your wife? Many of us, myself included, are hoping that she is continuing to improve.

News continues to be good one day and bad the next. The latest(yesterday) was the results from the bone biopsy and CT scan. The bone biopsy shows that 25% of Sue's white blood cells are leukemic. This is three days after her white blood cell count bottomed out at nearly 0%. The CT scan showed sub-dural bleeding which means she has blood between her skull and brain. There is also a good deal of swelling of her brain.

The good news is the pulmonologist stated this morning that her lungs are "sounding okay"(= less fluid on her lungs). :D This is a significant gain because they say her brain is swollen because of the ventilator's high pressure. It has to be run at a higher pressure in order to get her the Oxygen she needs. If we can get her lungs cleared up enough, she can be weened off of that ventilator and the brain swelling should go away. A neuro-surgical team is being consulted to see about getting the blood off of her brain, probably after the swelling subsides.

More good news is that her blood count has climbed to 2.2. Three days ago it was .6 . Also her blood platelets are hovering around 100,000. That's up significantly from my last report.

So, we're on a day by day roller coaster here. It's a very tough cup to drink from, but God is sustaining us thru the prayers of great people like you guys.

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Mike and Sue

p.s. stay strong, take care of yourself, she needs you!!

Well, all of the doctor's on my wife's case have gotten together and decided she is a lost cause. She still has swelling in her brain, lung problems and that damned leukemia.
This comes after Sue had a rough ride to the O.R. for her trach. surgery.
She has had a couple of bouts of irregular heartbeat last night and today and her B.P. is running up and down. I had her put on a morphine drip this afternoon because she is getting "uncomfortable".
I was seen by each of her Dr.'s at different times today and each informed me that there is nothing more they can do. I just got back from a meeting with the in-hospital doc overseeing her case and he essentially wanted to know when I wanted to pull the plug. He was very compassionate and tactful about it, but still.   :(

This comes after her vital numbers seem headed in the right direction. The ARDS(acute respiratory distress syndrome read: double pneumonia) is now the giant that needs to be slain.

I told him that although they have given up on her, I want her taken care of for the time being because now it's GOD's turn to heal her and I'd get back with him later.

We are now praying for a MAJOR miracle.

God Bless all of you guys!
