The guy who owns the site made his position clear. Disagree all you want, everyone's a guest on his site, don't like it? Tough luck.

If you have the support of the site owner why not make your list and start your naming and shaming?
Are you waiting for someone else to do it?

I agree, this thread should be and will likely be closed and details need to be ironed out before the thread is made. I didn't make this thread so I can't close it.

,
Have you discussed how this plays out if you find someone who is a repeat offender-do they just have to buy the dealer membership, get banned (for not having the dealer membership) or stop selling if they don't buy the membership. You may be using this to address flippers, but it really seems to be a membership level issue.
Buy a dealer membership and they can continue to grab and mark up limited releases to their hearts content-from what I read from Spark and your post 3

Man 4 pages and not a single name it seems you guys that are crusading for the great flipper-gate2018 don't have the courage to put a name in. I will start with I am in complete disagreement with the whole witch hunt of paying members idea. I do fell like there has been a clique thats crusading knife social justice warriors on this sight lately and it is a worriesome sight to me.

So in saying that i will cast my own name into the ring because i am guilty of buying a knife and i have sold for profit. It actually happened back a year or two ago i sold a specific knife and got put on blast because i started the auction price and it went for a ton more than i would have ever thought. The best part is people blamed me for that and the best part is the same knives i have seen sold here for more than the price i got.

Also I have bought multiples of the same exclusive and sold the other one later on down the road ( mainly because i decided i didnt love it) but i dont feel like i should have to explain my self to anyone.

Also there a ton of posts about flippers but not alot about people who sell for a smoking deal or people who loose on a knife. I have sold plenty of knives new or like new for half or a 1/3 of what i paid and so have a ton of other people here.

Maybe im the a**hole here and im sorry i just had to let loose how im seeing this play out.

As you stated it is fine to disagree etc. But dont expect me not to openly disagree with you.

As for number 2 on that list you can put down
Lui Kang knives
Not a paying member anymore because he was banned.

Respectfully yours truly,
Dirtbag knife flippin scumbag of the worst kind

I live in the UK where it's hard to get so many knives new that I have to use the secondary market. If this list will let me buy secondary with no mark up because people are shamed into not making a profit that's going to be great....

IMHO there are several members who sell so many knives over time that they should be dealers and keep their posts out of the regular listings. No, I'm not naming them here. I have put them on ignore and notified the admins.

However, as to flippers. It is normal behavior found in all "collectibles" markets. If you don't like the price, don't buy the item. If you don't like the person doing the selling, ignore them.

We don't need books of rules and public shaming. If you don't like what happens in the collectibles market, stay away.

I won't address the politics or essays, the list will move forward. Use it or don't. I don't care. I know many members will be glad to find a compilation of who the greedy price gouging individuals are.

This thread will likely close soon anyway.

Indeed, buying a membership doesn't eliminate the issue, but then it all comes down to Forum's policy and focus. If the Forum decides on a more information/hobby-centered Forum then this doesn't do much, but teaching them the value of patience (having to wait a bit to sell their stuff or sell them one at a time). If the Forum accepts this as a necessary and/or unavoidable part of the community, regardless if it represents the views and values of the stuff or not, then yes, a Dealer membership should be required and would be enough, and it would be up to us -as it is now- to choose to buy from a flipper or not.

A place like BF that involves buying/selling of goods and the transaction arrangements are done between the two parties without any involvement from the site itself, then, as the Mod already described, sales micro-management will be necessary to make sure that regulations are followed. Any solution that limits the practice of flipping, i believe, will require micro-managing.

There's a local website in where i live, where people list stuff and pets to sell or even give for free if of not real value. The interesting part is the way it works. After you create and submit your ad, it appears as pending for review, and a member of the site will review it first and then allow it to be properly posted for all to see. That way, they control the content and they make sure that the ad is clear to understand. A similar practice could be employed here, and, as another member has already suggested, people could volunteer to help with that, under the general supervision of the Mods of course.

No. That's the problem. Nobody likes flippers, but nobody can agree upon exactly what constitutes a flipper. And that's why we shouldn't have a mob enforcing cultural norms against them.

Gosh. Sometimes I think I'm the only person left on the planet who cares about procedural justice.
Procedural justice? Man, are we throwing flippers in jail now? What procedures do I have to follow to avoid buying from someone because I think they're a scumbag? Let me know what formal procedures you follow to evaluate who you buy from, please, so we can get those implemented.

His point was, that it appears that there's a push here to set up some sort of kangaroo court where people are charged with "flipping" (as defined by some self appointed collective by some arbitrary rules). These people are presumed guilty and would appear to have little chance of defending themselves against the collective.

Four pages and we have only one self claimed flipper:eek: and another who has been banned:D

I honestly can only think of two active members who maybe should buy a dealer membership. Howver, if the owner of the site is fine with them, all good with me too.

Defend themselves from what? A bunch of folks refusing to buy from them? Mods determining if they have the correct membership level? Sounds an awful lot like that capitalism thing you mentioned earlier!
