SUBMISSION B

"SAMUEL'S SPLINTER" :p Just havin fun with this one Charlie, I do like the name though. However the final product is not a serious attempt, more for recreation on a cold, overcast Sunday. On the upside---if you break it you just whittle another---just like Tom would've done ;)

Make these!!!!
A quick proto I just whipped up. I started with Popsicle sticks but they kept breaking so I moved on to cardboard. My new Charlow worked great for this task with both materials :D.

I wanted to make it key chain friendly as a design feature. I have labeled the key areas in my first photo.

1. The end is curved to match the top of the tube, this is the end mainly designed to pop the tube open.
2. Key chain/Lanyard hole.
3. Cap lifter
4. Area for scale material to dress it up and individualize each release.
5. Screw driver end

Here are a few pics simulating use :)

I will come up with a new name in a bit, have to run for now.

Two name proposals:

the "Tube Rube"

and/or

the "Full Crumb"

and the obligatory trad duo:

Some wonderful ideas are showing up here!! Please keep them coming. Don't hesitate to edit your posts, as I will read them all at the last!

I'll put in for part A because my fabrication skills won't get me anywhere in part B. ;)

Suggested name: The Friendly Finger of Freedom (because you are freeing knives from the tubes to make their way in the world)

A neat idea & thanks for the chance.

Not in it for the giveaway or anything. I just got inspired and cut one out of some g10 i've got kicking about.
Not quite yet finished or anything, just a little thing. 3" length, opening my tube once containing an antique yellow sawcut Tom's Choice two-bladed Charlow. :)

How could one resist ;-)) Thanks for the opportunity Charlie. I'm calling this the Tubey Doobie ;-)) I actually used the punch blade on my harness jack to carve the lip and the slot for the opposite rim, Very carefully.

Best regards

Robin

B. The excruciatingly crafted final prototype, first shown in its custom pocket sleeve. Very exclusive run on these models. Note the genuine buckskin access lanyard and upcycled Lansky leatherwork.

The tools of leisure and gentle activity extended for viewing. Pop, open, tamp, aerate, and scrape all in one go. You can see how this tool exudes craftsmanship and quality. Just imagine the man-hours it took to assemble this masterful piece.

It pops a mean top. Note that this is the Northfield model tube opener, with custom scrolling and high polish finish ;)

Charlie this is your gig but I think style points should be given to the first person to demonstrate the proper method of developing a patina on a popsicle stick.

I'm gonna go with "sissy bar". :D

Now I have to go make one...

Would it be out of the spirit of things to make a balisong style handle out of flame-treated titanium?

I'll just see myself out now.
