Submission A: Potter's Pick/Hook

An on-line source says that Muff Potter was always helping the children fish. So he might have had a pick or a hook to help get the knife tubes open with too!

Two ideas for part two if I can remember them until tomorrow morning and have a bit of luck in searching the garage for something.

My submission for Part A: De-GEC-u-lator. Unfortunately, your post also makes me think about the other, usual meaning of "tube-top". The various ways in which one might remove that sort of tube-top are inappropriate for this forum ;)

I'm working on a project for Part B, and will post it separately later. It involves a trout.

Cheers,
Daniel

A) Huckleberry's Hero...as in "I'm your Huckleberry" seen here around 1:45

These are my three Barlows, they are quite the study in contrasts, but I like each of them for different reasons

Now I'm off to perfect Huck's Hero

Meako your post had, and still has me laughing. That is awesome!

Charile, this is just too cool.

I just came across it and I will not enter, I have just been too lucky to have such kindess directed my way.

Love this thread!

Believe it or not, this is not an entry...

A while back, I was goofing around with a piece of soft wood and my Old Timer, and when I was done, this weird thing had emerged. It looked vaguely purposeful, but inscrutable -- it could have passed for an artifact from a lost civilization, like, "The ancient Chayneyanquin people used the N'taleki (literally "wooden thumbnail") in a variety of domestic tasks, and indeed, it became so central to their culture that intricately decorated versions were traditionally given when welcoming a new son-in-law into the family" or something.

A couple weeks later, this thread shows up and AHA! ...now I know what it's for:

Clearly, no home should be without one. :D

Anyhow, safe travels, sir -- if I make it down to Eugene I'll say hello.

What a great idea for a GAW.

I would call it my Hank Thompson:

I hope when you get to Oregon it is as beautiful as this...

Tube trepanner!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1365461387.069979.jpg

I'll maybe get around to fashioning a tube trepanner of my own for part B.

Thanks for the chance!

Thanks for the generous giveaway Charlie.

My version is a reverse Popper, called reppoP.

It's made from a leftover piece of olive wood, now that's some hard stuff.

The advantages are:
- Better leverage in a smaller package
- You can grab the cap with the opening hand, so it doesn't pop out of control
- Ergonomic handle
- Lifetime warranty
(I might need to invest in some better marketing or I don't stand a chance against meako :D)

Sturzi-I'm loving your opener the Reppop -ergonomic,new age ,beautifully finished. Man I think its a winner! With your skill and my particular brand of insanity I think we could scoop the pool here. I propose a sliight rebranding of your product or simply a name change .Mmmmm how about -look let me run this up the flagpole see if the people salute it- "The Ripppofff"?

Ooh I like the double meaning of Ripoff, we might have something here ;). Maybe add a number? 2.0 seems to be all the rage nowadays: Ripoff 2.0 new and improved.

Another feature:
MULTIFUNCTIONAL it can be used as a bottle opener*

At least it worked for one, extensive further testing required :D

* voids the lifetime warranty

THAT is Beautiful Sturzi, Wonderful lines.

Very best regards

Okay, so given a little time and effort, I have managed to now produce something worthy of Part B of this challenge.

I started with an idea ('trout') and a small forked stick. In no time, my Pemberton had roughed it out into an appropriately 'trouty' shape. [NB. Pemberton not shown, as the Erickson is in my pocket today.]

This should do the trick nicely:

Of course, it would be better with some finishing, and the mouth should probably function as the opener, for a more 'realistic' representation of the trout. A little more carving, some sanding, and a nice paint job to complete the transformation. We now have a beautiful, and functional, work of art:

Does the mouth work to open the tube as advertised? Yes indeed!

Nothing 'fishy' about that, is there?

Cheers,
Daniel

I would call it "The Enabler".

Manadatory knife porn pic. :D

P.S. I am still laughing from Meako's entry, and would actually consider buying Sturzi's.

This thread is tops (boom tish).
I've enjoyed this immensely so far .
My wife nearly died of laughter taking those "I can't 'ear you" photos".
Daniel -truly amazing piece of work. So lifelike.I just wanted to cut it up for sashimi. I'd call it the "T-Rout" or "Top Out" or something.
Grins000-you Sir are an unrecognised genius! Innovation plus.
