I have a recon scout and that was impressively sharp when I recieved it- and through other people's posts, apparently CS's knives are generally very sharp. What are some of the sharpest knives, in your experience, straight out of the box? What about the dullest?

Sharpest out of the box: My Spyderco's are all sharp, but the sharpest of them was the burgundy Calypso, Jr. My Sebbies are VERY sharp out of the box. My RRF was also wicked, wicked sharp. If we are talking customs, the I gotta say my R. Hinderer Firetac is THE sharpest. I have had some dull Benchmades in the past, as well an Ontario knife that I had years ado. CRK&T are some of the dullest knives I have EVER had; at least in my experience.

Sharpest = Spyderco Spyderco Spyderco Spyderco

Dullest = Benchmade / CRKT

I've seen $5 China knock offs that are sharper than some of the Benchmade's I've had out of the box.

I have never had anything sharper than a Spyderco out of the box.

:)

My Bark River was probably the sharpest out-of-the-box knife I've ever bought.

My sharpest was a Spyderco C27P Jess Horn. The edge was mirror polished. Never had anything slice through paper so easy...

Two that come to mind that were much sharper than I expected:

AG Russell Japanese Hunting knives with Hitachi steel.
Camillus CUDA QCB

My spydercos have always been my sharpest. My dulles was by far my Sog Flash II, it did not even have proper edge geometry, let alone an edge that would cut.

Sharpest: Marbles and Spydercos.

Dullest: The 4 CRKT's I've had in the past were pretty dull. Also of some dozen or less Busses I've handled (and one Assault Shaker I've had and sold) many were duller than I expected, but maybe were that way for their intended use versus what I usually need.

Spydercos are very sharp out the box, Also my al mare sere was about equal. Only had one al mar though. Every spyderco is always very sharp. Had a microtech that wasn't nearly as sharp as could be out of the box. Seems benchmades and emersons always need a little help when first bought too.

Murray Carter!!! HOLY COW they are sharp! Sharpest knives I've seen in ages.

CRK the Sebenza has perfect hollow ground edge geometry. It is sharp as heck and sharpens up in a jiffy.

Bob Dozier Arkansas Toothpick in D2

Buck mod. 532 (discontinued) with BG-42 steel.

Benchmade Snody Activator mod. 210GG, limited edition in S30V.

Trident Knives Oberland 01, in S30V

Lots of Benchmade haters out there:jerkit: . I personally haven't had any problems with any of mine.

The dullest by far was Sog Trident

1. Spyderco Ronin
2. Beretta Busfield Persian Trailing Point (made by Moki of Japan)

And BTW I was pleasantly surprised that the 710D2 I just bought was very sharp out of the box.

AG Russell Japanese Hunting knives with Hitachi steel.
Thats good to hear, I was thinking about buying one. Hows the wear resistance?

I've heard Murray Carter's knives are not as sharp as they could be when you buy them online, but he sharpens them for you if you buy them from him face to face.

Personally I find it hard to believe that any knife could be THAT much sharper then some of the various Spyderco's, such as the Delica.

Also, OT, but I hate it when people say "as sharp as a razor". That is quite a statement and should be backed up by facts. If you don't mean it seriously, then you probably shouldn't say it, it lessens the impact when a knife really is as sharp as a disposable razor.
