Name the sharpest knives out of the box

What are some of the sharpest knives, in your experience, straight out of the box? What about the dullest?

Sharpest knife I ever got out of the box was my Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight (Hunter blade). That thing is kinda terrifying in its understated, "what, me?" scary-sharpness!

Lots of Benchmade haters out there:jerkit: . I personally haven't had any problems with any of mine.

My Benchmades have also not impressed me right out of the box, but they take a wonderful edge.

Their design and construction make up for what they lack in out-of-the-box sharpness, in my opinion.

Do I dare revive this thread from the dead? Sure, why not. Mostly because I am unimpressed with my new Scarab. This thing will NOT slice printer paper cleanly. The top edge is a bit better than the bottom, but overall what a disappointment for a $400 blade. Is this is a typical Microtech thing similar to Benchmade?

Anyway. Sharpest blade out of the box for me would be (in order of sharpness):
1. Spyderco Chaparral in CTS XHP (Hair whittling)
2. Cold steel Espada XL in AUS8 (This this was just scary in general)
3. ZT-0392
4. Spyderco Endura Super Blue (and every other Spyderco I have purchased)
5. RAT RC-4 (Rowan)

Worst (relative to price paid and expectations)
1. Benchmade (crappy edge on 80% of all benchmades purchased)
2. Microtech Scarab Executive D/E-S (serious downer for a $400 blade)
3. H&K Tumult

I don't know what happened to CRKT: Sharpest folding knife I can remember was a CRKT Appache, hollow ground blade with a hollow ground edge bevel on one side... I failed to maintain that edge though, as I didn't understand how to sharpen it...

Sharpest fixed blade OOB was something called the EK Warrior Bowie. Ugly as hell, and with a rickety guard that shook as you shake the knife... The huge handle you shape yourself was a stupid concept on a plain straight full tang... Hated it, despite its qualities.

But what does sharpness matter? Edge thinness is what matters: Thinnest big knife edge for me has consistently been Randall, especially the stainless ones...
