Okay, we all know we have our favorite this brand and that brand, we all know what models we like from the brands we favor. But how about steels? I thought it would be interesting to give an idea what steels your knives consist of. For those of us with large collections, just pick the ones you like and/or use the most! I'll start us off:

5 - 1095 (and soon to be one more)

5 - 1.4110x55CrMo14

4 - AUS-8

3 - S30V

1 - 420HC

1 - Case CV

1 - M390

1 - D2

1 - 420J2

1 - 420

1 - Unknown (Camillus Lockback)

1 - Helle Harding Laminate

I've updated my list because my inventory has changed some since I first posted this.

I still say 1095 is my favorite, but my new 2nd favorite is now D2, tied with M390 and then S30V.

My favorite steels of what I have are CPM S30V, CPM M4, and 154CM for folders and the old standby 1095 for fixed blades. Most of the folders I have actually are S30V which is strange.

Why no love for S30V?

Tell us about the custom?
Sure. Its being made by Jason Howard. He is a newer maker here on BF I think. I like the look of his work though and his prices on the Knifemakers section were good I thought. So I contacted him. Initially he suggested 440c I think, but I said I wanted D2 or 154CM. I then decided on a stainless super steel 154. He contacted me later and said for a little more he could upgrade me to CPM 154 I was like lets do it. Here is a pic.
IMG_20110620_184920.jpg

4.6 inch blade
4.75 inch handle
its going to be black micarta with blue liners
3- 3/8" stainless tubing through the handle.

Guess mine is a real odd combo:

Benchmade 755 in M390

Another BM the VEX in 8Cr14MoV

Gerber large combat folder AUS8? I guess

And my old stainless Douk-Douk in plain 'ol 440

Those are the most carried, but I do have some Kershaws and the like.
