This is my follow up on my previous post and experience with nano oil ..http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1322458-Not-so-Nano-Nano-oil

I received my second tube of nano oil from Christian StClaire today, this one was the replacement for the first one I ordered that had aluminum particles floating around inside. It was shipped very fast and as he stated, he also included a LED light pen with the replacement.
(read previous post)

Unfortunately this tube is ALSO defective and is contaminated with floating aluminum particles.

Its not as bad as the first one, but still contains particles. Its very difficult to get pictures of the contaminates, and there are actually more in the tube than the pictures show.

I'm really not sure of what to think of this yet.
Was it an honest over-site by Mr. StClaire? Maybe he has bad eyesight?
Surely he would have checked it thoroughly this time as it was a replacement.....?:(
maybe......he.........nawww ....

Well. I have to admit. That is pretty poor. He was obviously made aware of the issue and should certainly not have sent another with the same issue. Sorry brandoak. I owe you an apology. I truly am sorry. IMHO that is unacceptable.

I guess you could filter the oil, clean the tubes, and put it back in them.

Damn pretty ironic you used his light to show more aluminum particles LOL

Thank you Mr. M.

Do I see an adjustment in the buyers feedback? Can't wait to read it. LOL

But wouldn't that filter out some of the very expensive "Fullerenes" that are the magic ingredient?
Hmm, the other post says the tops are crimped onto the tube ... if you could get one off there I'd stuff some cottonballs and put it back ... maybe :D

lol, the flashlight was the pen..(led on top of pen)..it was to cheap..had to use my flashlight. even then it was a pain to get pics just right, had to wait until the particles fell into place and take the pic just at the right time...he said he was going to send me a X 10 magnifying glass as well......oh well...could have used it for better pics...

cottonballs....now that's a good idea! maybe all is not lost.

Sorry, but I have to ask:

1.That's a pinpoint oiler..would particles that large even pass through the needle?
2. What was the quality of the oil, barring the particulate matter?

Considering you noticed these particles while in suspension, what are the odds you'd fail to notice them if any did, in fact, emit from the applicator? using your tactile sense, (touch)?

What is your opinion of the oil, barring any foreign materials present in situ?

Maybe that's mixing material like those damn balls in spray paint cans. :D

If all is as it seems, Nano-Oil has some recent QC issues to deal with. It's unacceptable to send them out like that regardless of any other factors.

The OP's signature makes me somewhat hesitant in seeing things from his perspective.

The three viles of Nano-Oil I got this year from KnifeWorks have no debris of any kind (I've checked) but the last one was from a few months ago.

I honestly dont know if the particles will make it out of the needle or make it up to the needle causing a clog..I dont expect that the larger chunks would make it out but just how small the smaller ones are we will never know.
I just put some on a finger and I cant feel any grittiness,... its pretty smooth and has a soapish smell to it. It seems to be thicker than Rem oil, and its working better than my old 10wt oil....

I was about to ask Kaotikross for some legal advice......and then I read his signature....:D

It is a pinpoint oiler. But here are a few things to consider. 1. The particles you can see may not pass through the tube but with that much of a problem contaminant wise i wonder if there arent smaller particles that could in fact get through that you just cant see. And 2. Even if those particles cant get through they may clog the needle making it hard to dispense. Still I could see a small shaving being directly applied to your pivot and have a real swell experience afterwards. I checked my bottle and my tip isnt anything like that one. I think they need to rethink their packaging.

I hope the owner of nano-oil gets a link to this thread, too.

He didnt reply to the email I sent him alerting him of the first. But if he does end up reading that thread there is a link to this one in it.

What puzzles me is why anyone would buy a super-expensive specialty oil for a pocketknife. While there are some really good knife oils out there, knives are very simple little machines and I can't see where there is much room for improvement. Maybe for tiny high speed machines-but a knife?

I know I got sucked in by the false hope it would make not so smooth knives blade drop like a guillotine. But after much trial and error with oils I try to avoid them entirely now unless necessary. My knives may not be as fast but I have less problems with dirt, lint and lock issues running them dry. On my bearing knives I rub the captive bearings in between my fingers with a drop of oil just so the steel balls dont rust but thats it. I admit in hindsight I really am embarrassed on how much money went down the tubes on all the stuff. The worst though was Diamond lube. I think I paid $30 for 3ml. It hurts to even admit that. But hey he through in a sample of the same micro spherical diamond dust suspended in food grade mineral oil and guaranteed me it would cure my fathers arthritis. He sent me an ML of that stuff which costs $250 for 10ml I think or something crazy. The good news is that $30 sample didnt cost me a dime. Bad news is it was pure snake oil. This guy actually told me that the diamond particles are so small that when you rub the oil into your hands the diamond spheres absorb through your skin and work its way into the joints providing days of 100% relief from arthritis as the diamonds act as ball bearings for your joints. Pure gold I tell you. To be clear this was from the guy who claimed St. Claire stole his formula and name for nano lube.

I wonder did he believe what he was saying.. Or a bold face liar. Either is pretty pathetic.

If you're looking for an alternative try reel oil. I picked some up a few months ago and I've been really happy with how it works. It's nice for flushing out pivots you can't or don't want to take apart. The brand I have is called reel butter.
