Nano oil, fool me once...

I don't know exactly what folks expect of lube for a knife. Corrosion resistance? Of course. Lubrication? Of course. Anything else? I use mobil 1. 7 bucks a quart.

Mineral oil is just fine for knives also. Something lighter I use wd40. Mobil 1 for my AR's actually all my firearms. And that's probably overkill. But what the heck. I can afford it;)

Yes sir, Im going to try some of the oil my Abu Garcia came with and mineral oil. Lots of experimenting to do! thx!
If you're looking for an alternative try reel oil. I picked some up a few months ago and I've been really happy with how it works. It's nice for flushing out pivots you can't or don't want to take apart. The brand I have is called reel butter.

Agreed on Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil. What weight/viscosity do you use?

WD-40 is an American institution and that "Water Displacement, 40th formula" is still a trade secret!

I've been happy with the Nano-Oil products. Seems to perform better than anything else I've tried. However, I have no empirical data. A noted firearms instructor I know uses Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil successfully in all his firearms (I think it was 10W30 but it could've been 10W40 or 20W50).

Anyone want to buy a couple of new and improved tubes of Nano oil?

Its there latest in a two part anti-friction technology, it has annealed aluminum particles suspended in the oil that when dispensed galls with friction, filling in micro pits in ferrous metals creating an ultra mi-chronic stabilized surface that the Nano bearings in return use as a precision race.....

Checked my year old oiler pen. Has a different lube but identical pen construction, no debris whatsoever. Honestly I can only see this going two ways. One is st. Claire calls you a liar and claims you doctored the pens, or he mails you a whole case of pens as apology. Arguing that the aluminum can't get through the needle is not acceptable. It's like buying a knife with scratches all over it and the manufacturer says it shouldn't effect cutting much.

scratching the knife is the owners job, correct? :D
Yep, shouldn't come that way [emoji1]

I consider nano oil a premium type product, it is many times more expensive than alternatives and depends on its reputation of being worth it. Why would people take a leap of faith when the owner considers metal particulate within standards? I remember reading a post about slip ewl a gun oil where a guys bottle came thickened up. The manufacturer actually found his post, said the condition of that bottle was unacceptable and sent him several new bottles. Slip 2000 is more expensive than most. But still I believe like a quarter the price of nano oil

I have thought this from the first thread, but the "large" particles you can see are really just the tip of the iceberg. I would be more concerned about all the smaller particles that will impede lubrication and cause wear.

I probably would not have purchased Nano Oil before this thread, but can guarantee you that I will not be buying any now.

This thread got me thinking.....

WHAT IF my 5ml tube of Nano oil was actually filled with Mobil 1. I probably wouldn't know any better. I did the math. A $7 quart of Mobil 1 could fill 118 Nano Oil Tubes. 118 x $18 per tube = $2,124.

That's only a 30,000% markup!

I need to get in on this.

Check the msds. It's pretty basic non synthetic oil. He is basically asking you to trust that his nano carbon additives are worth the enormous price. When he says not to worry about debris, that it's probably too small to fit through the needle, it also makes you wonder how much engineering knowledge he truly has, I can't see a mobil 1 scientist saying "yeah wouldn't worry about the shavings, oil filter should catch them"

I have sent Mr. StClaire an email about the second tube this morning...... so far nothing but crickets.....
Hey, maybe if he does set things strait Ill get that 10x magnifying glass after all! Maybe even a hat! Nothin wrong with sporting a hat with “NANO OIL” on the front right?...

brandoak,

I couldn't find your negative feedback on Amazon. Between July 6th and September 11th there are 8 feedbacks for NanoLube and all are a very positive 5 out of 5.

Interesting, I removed the first negative feedback when he agreed to send me a replacement tube, it wasn't until today that after receiving the second tube O' blis did I update and reinstate my feedback on Amazon. When I submitted it I got a message stating my feedback was “pending approval” ... matter of fact, the first time I posted feedback I couldn't see it listed with the rest. I even tried logging out to see if it appeared to no avail. It left me wondering if the seller had the ability to get rid of or pay to rid neg. feedback, but then I couldn't understand why he was so adamant on me removing it still.

Couldn't pay to get rid of neg feedback but they could probably ask Amazon to have a second look at it if there is some bad language or something of that sort.

The approval process you see so far is normal. I think with negative feedback it takes a bit longer. Give it a day or two.

I checked my Amazon feedback (Your Account › Your Submitted Feedback) for that third-party vendor I had issues with and all three feedbacks are there. The first one was a bad experience 2/5 (wrong product, delays in responding and delay in refund). The other two were great 5/5. He asked that I delete the first negative feedback because obviously he could not. I refused as a matter of principle even though he did sell me the subsequent products at a generous discount. I guess indirectly he thought he could "bribe" me into getting rid of the negative feedback.

No bad language, just a simple 1-8 list as to my experiences so far. Like you said, give it a day ....

Do you think I made a mistake in removing my feedback the first time?

It's a personal choice. I always keep my negative feedbacks unless of course I'm at fault in which case I delete them. If the vendor makes it right I make sure I follow up with a positive feedback (but never deleting the original offense). Everybody deserves a second chance. Attitude helps.

This is an opportunity to show that he can handle mishaps and make a customer happy, or that he is a complete ass. He got rude the first time so, this is take two... Peoples character come out when things go wrong. Its cheaper for him to bite the bullet and make it right than lose customers, and have himself documented as being a snake oil salesmen AND a jerk.

What puzzles me is why anyone would buy a super-expensive specialty oil for a pocketknife. While there are some really good knife oils out there, knives are very simple little machines and I can't see where there is much room for improvement. Maybe for tiny high speed machines-but a knife?
This^^^^^^^^^^^^
Knife pivots aren't very demanding of lubricants there is no extreme heat, pressure, or speed involved with opening a knife. If you still want to try a lubricant with fullerenes check out Rand CLP you can get a small .6oz bottle for $2.49 shipped.
