Native 5 - the perfect pocket knife?

Picked up a Native 5 for my Father. Didn't expect to be as impressed with this knife as I am. Will absolutely be picking one up for myself. All of my back locks are FRN, this is my first hands on with a G-10 steel liner-ed example. Wish I'd handled one sooner.

I couldn't agree more. This is my first Native and right out of the box I new it was something special. It was one that I wanted to try for awhile but I kept buying other Spydies instead. I probably would have saved quite a bit of money....but at least now I know. In hand the feel is fantastic. If I'm honest I'd have to say it's a more natural fit than my Sage 2 which is a knife I'm very fond of. I love a backlock - but are you kidding me? I know I'm preaching to the choir but this is hands down the smoothest and most solid backlock I have ever experienced. I'm really digging no thumb ramp. You can climb all over this knife and to top it off S35vn responds very well on the stones for me. I can hardly wait to try out the lightweight, but at least I've got something great to bide the time with. I couldn't be more impressed.

Great picture.
Native was my first Spyderco knife. So I have a soft spot for Natives. I carried Native for several month and loved ergos, not so much huge swedge. I carried Native4 much longer and I really liked it, much more than original Native. When Native5 came out I expected this knife to be something like N4, but US made. I bought my first Native5 several month after they came out. When I hold it in my hand first time, I understood, this is the knife and I asked myself the same question, why did I wait that long. Since then I have one of my Native5 in my pocket almost every day. Currently two of most carried and used are: Ti fluted and 2013 Forum. Great knives. Fantastic ergos. I love midlocks and I love the blade. I have two LW, but didn't carry them yet.

Can you change the scales on both the lightweight and the G10 models? I mean put on custom made scales on either of them?

Owning a Native 5 has precipitated a major sell off of nearly all my other knives... Just don't need them any more.

Thanks bh49. After handling the Native it has me questioning whether I'll ever even pick up a Para3. May just get a G-10 Native, after the HAP Caly, of course.;)

knifeneasy, the Native I picked up was pretty stiff out of the box, but I usually tighten my back locks anyway a bit at the pivot and add some lok-tite. It makes for less blade play & after about a week, they wear in & are smooth.

Pulled these two out of the couch last night. Went looking for the LW because it wasn't in my pocket found the S110V too. Funny how they can go missing sometimes.

Very cool.^
TKC- Yes! A Spyderknut on fb just sent me a red Never Summer. Can't wait! Thanks for asking.
