Native 5 - the perfect pocket knife?

Thanks to this thread and all the good info and pics presented....this knife is on my radar now. Didn't really think too highly of the design before but I may be rethinking that decision.

I'd like it if Spyderco would make a G10 linerless Native 5 with the tooling for the CF Anniversary N5. ...especially since canceling the contoured & fluted CF/S90V linerless N5

I've opened several coconuts(harvested direct from the tree) with my N5LW. That's hard use in anyone's book. Not to sound like a fanboy, but I then sold my two Hinderer XM-18s and replaced them with a quiver of Spydies.

You know that's the right thing to do. ;)

And I have to agree with this thread. I complained about the cutting edge length at first, but now I see that it's perfect. I have noticed the same thing as a lot of others on this board....I have other knives to put in my pocket, but a lot of times I put the N5 LW in my pocket instead. I've never owned a G10 Native 5 so I just ordered one to see if I like it better than the LW version. We'll see.

Great knife. Perfect in just about every way.

I think you'll like the N5 G10 but whether or not you'll like it better than the LW is hard to say. The G10 is a little thinner than the LW and looks nice with the stainless backspacer. It's built like a tank but it's also quite a bit heavier than the LW. For that reason I carry the LW far more often than the G10.

Just received my Native 5 dark blue G10 this week and am extremely impressed. I have to admit I'm not a big Spyderco fan with most models having the spydie hole hump on the blade. Despite that, I've still went back and forth on getting a PM2, Delica, or a couple other models since last summer. I finally settled on the Native and decided to get the dark blue "blurple" handled version since it looked very solid. Boy am I glad I didn't flip-flop more and put it off again. Such a great knife! Blade opens very smoothly and practically falls shut after depressing the lockback lever. Feels great in the hand with or without using the choil and has nice grippy handles. I wasn't sure about pocket clip and considered a deep-carry clip even before making the knife purchase, but am liking the standard clip so far.

All in all, one of my favorite pocket knives so far! I still wouldn't go as far as calling myself a Spyderco fan, but I'd gladly say I'm a fan of the Native. :)

I'm pumped to see how you like it!

I love my native but it's the only knife I can't get sharp. Super thick behind the edge. Going to need to get the diamond rods for my sharpmaker or buy an edge pro or something just to sharpen the damn thing.

Is it a Native 5? Of the seven that have passed through my hands (all lightweight, S35VN, S90V, and S110V) the thickest behind the edge was 0.025", and only two were even that thick. I have seen a couple of older Natives that were definitely thicker but not the N5.

Hm. Bummer. I like everything about the 40th except the 40th anniversary engraving

Yeah I was also a little bummed when I learned they weren't going to make the fluted CF/S90V knife. I ended up getting a good deal on a 40th so I went for it. I don't really care for the looks of 40th on the blade either but I do like what it commemorates.

I just ordered the G10 version today myself. :)

^ How do you like the N5 G10 so far BMC?

First day in the pocket. It is kind of weird (not in a bad way) that the knife feels so familiar but so different. I have the Native 5 LW as well and the ergos are similar but the weight and materials feel so different.

I plan on doing a review on it once it has had some pocket time.

I have both as well. As much as I like the N5 G10 I think I actually prefer the LW more. I carried the N5 G10 a couple days ago and have a black LW in my watch pocket today. They're both good just different.

I'm completely sold on the lw series of Spydercos! Currently have the manix and native lw versions. Such great knives.
