Native5 Forum 2015 no chatter? What's up?

I got one coming. The Native 5 is quickly becoming my EDC favorite. It has kicked out the Para-Military 2 that I usually carry when I am not at work. Now I carry the Native 5 at work and outside of work. I also really like the maroon. Nice change. I will use the forum Native just because it is S90V. I CANNOT let that gem die in a box. ;)

I thought it was a great price! American made, S90V, with a stellar design for under $100? Sweeeeet!

Maroon? I'm moderately colorblind, but that Native looks chocolate brown to me. I'll have to take your guyz' word for it.

It's on the brownish side of maroon, but it's definitely not brown.

I went ahead and picked one up to try it out. I really love the regular S35VN version; it's a great workhorse design, and it's broken down thousands of boxes at work. $100 seems very reasonable for a steel upgrade, so I figure I'll give it a spin. I do really like the (relatively) easy maintenance of S35VN, and S90V is harder to sharpen, but I use the Native5 so often on cardboard that the edge retention may be worthwhile. And if not, I doubt I'll end up too much out of pocket after selling it.

Edit: I also have enough black handled knives that a little color is always welcome.

Hi 802-303,

Vote intelligently.

Thanks Sal. I've been in NY for less then a year, (I'm a Colorado Native) So I have a lot of new challenges here that never existed in my home state. I've always been told, if you don't vote, don't Bitc....wine.

Unfortunately, in some states, you could vote as often as legal and still get nowhere. At some point it comes down to whether the other reasons for living where you do outweigh the inconveniences and disadvantages - a topic I'm well acquainted with, unfortunately, and 802-303 has my sympathies. :o

The chatter is on the spyderco forum where it should be. I get its for everyone but it really makes sense for the most chat to be on the actual spyderco forum.

Great looking piece. I've never had a Native before, but the design looks just about perfect for EDC.

That color is starting to grow on me the more I see it.

i think i'll sit this one out! i have lots of natives (6) and the 2013 forum knife to,but the color is interesting!be because two weeks ago i picked up some maroon linen micarta 1/8'' scales that i planed on replacing the stock black G-10 on one of my native 5's,maybe i should have picked a better color !or spyderco should have made a G-10 maroon version of the 2015 forum knife!as i don't like to copy,oh well, should end well.

That's where I found the only chatter. But on this forum there's plenty of folks who really like Spyderco, like myself. I have many Spyderco knives which means that I support the company. I would also agree that most of the chatter would be there...but you would think there would be some here - nope! None that I could find. There are some people who wanted the notice of the 2015 Forum Knife to remain only on the Spyderco Forum. Why? I couldn't imagine Sal supporting secrecy. I'm glad I saw the notice and did purchase a bit of Spyderco history.

I go to the Spyderco forum often because I like to keep up with different perspectives on what's being said about the great offerings by Spyderco. I'm not a member of that forum because I don't have anything to offer that others can't offer better than I could and I find this forum just about maxes me out.

I would imagine because it's a model exclusive to that forum. Members there should get first crack at getting one before news spreads to a much larger place. Also there's quite a bit of overlap in members so it's not exactly a secret.

That is a fair point which should be voiced, but if it were a more valid point, I think sfo@spyderco.com should have accommodated their members by opening the website purchasing module an hour or two before public purchase. Or there surely would be other ways to allow "first crack." If it were set up in a way to accommodate Spyderco Forum members first, I would not have a problem with that at all. I would call that "fair and honorable."
Truth is I ordered one, but debated over it for several days beforehand. I hope my son will appreciate it when I'm long gone moved on.
