need opinions: Camillus BK9 fake?

I thought the old Cam 9's had a smooth coat, not the crinkle coat.
I am sure other will chime in soon enough.

Best of luck.

Never had a Cam 9, but that's something I've noticed several times so far, IMHO don't believe is a fake blade, but the coating probably isn't the factory one, who knows...

The one's i've seen from Camillus had the New York spelled out not N.Y.. The lettering in general looks bad also IMHO.

Well don't forget, as full as the old tang is, the older roll stamped ones had some issues with stress risers and would break at the stamp.

Full tang or not, I would take a newer "fixed" version for a reasonable amount than an inflated one that I wouldn't want to use in fear of a slightly elevated potential for breakage.

On top of that Ethan Becker says that the loss in strength is so minimal that even he would prefer the newer laser etched model with the other added improvements.

perhaps I'm being too picky. Has anyone ever even heard of a fake camillus lol
I just want to be 100% sure before I buy it.

You have a handful of folks here that just stated reasons to be wary, including the feedback, and you Still want to purchase it?

How about you just pay the next person you see $20 and have them give you a kick in the junk.
At least this way you will learn the same lesson for cheap instead of costing you more...

you can see in this pic of a known camillus bk9
This is the Very stress riser I was talking about...
You want to spend More for a Higher likelihood of This happening?

I don't get it.

- The "other BK20" is actually a new model (BK29) that was initially seen when the 20 was being made. So the numbers are accurate.
- As Kabar was going through various grinds to find the "Right one" the BK29 pattern was ground out and shelved, now we see it as a new model.
- Kabar/Becker doesn't price the secondary market, nor do they play it as an income generator.
- Whoever pays whatever for a knife is who designates what it is worth.
- If Ethan says that an older one is nicer, or a newer one is, I would believe him. He is a good guy and you just doubting him over a dollar is tantamount to a slap in the face of a man with integrity and honor.
- If you think you will be "ripped off" by buying a Becker (Any Becker) then you have an easy choice made easier for you.
(Don't buy them.)

There are plenty of brands out there for you to find Exactly what you want and not be questioning it.
Buy a Becker or don't. I will continue to support the guy that has earned the respect of plenty on here and a multitude of others.

Good luck, with the cynical outlook, you might need it.

Hmm, no thanks.
- I would still take the newer one with a factory backing me over the added expense of a "rarer" item with a questionable future (and past).
- Thicker, heavier, and full tang do not add to what I want in a knife, since I like to hike, on top of that, due to the saber grind and thicker stock, it isn't going to bite much deeper when chopping, so the added weight is wasted by adding to more energy expended while using the knife.
- Indented logo that increases a potential for failure, that being said, you can etch your logo using the stock coating as a resist and it comes out clean and doesn't induce fatigue prematurely.

The added leather sheath is of no draw for me as I can make my own leather sheaths tailored to my exact way I want to carry the knife.

So you are looking to buy a more expensive knife to save money on a sheath?

That is something else that doesn't make sense.
