need opinions: Camillus BK9 fake?

Cool, so you just talked yourself out of that (potentially) fake BK9.

Thanks, for doing my job for me.

So you think the logo is what weakens the camillus? interesting...

It isn't the logo,it was the rolling die that they use to stamp the blades added stress to the blade. On top of that, the sharp corners give them a point that a stress riser can propagate from at an increased likelihood.

So you would only pack a parachute if you thought your plane would catch fire, but not "just in case"?

Smart.

On top of that You posted a photo of a broken one. (The same type that you want to buy, made in the same time frame and at the same plant)

Edit to add:
If I think a product will be crappy, I won't buy one regardless of the warranty.

Think of Busse, generally considered to have one of, if not The, best warranties in the knife industry. Also generally considered to be one of the toughest around.

Then buy it.
Don't forget, you came here asking about it with doubts and those same doubts reaffirmed by a previous customer of said seller...

If you trust that whole scenario over Ethan Becker, go ahead.

To assume that I haven't done my research or I would have seen that pic is asinine. That is a Google image (and I did see it) but there was no point of posting it as I knew I was right.

You are upset about the BK20 deal but you didn't buy one? If it was as bad of a deal as you claim then you should be happy. You dodged a bullet I guess??? Life is about perspective. You can't be upset about what almost happened, life's too short for that.

You asked for opinions and don't seem to like the ones you have gotten. That can happen. Sorry.... You still have the option to do as you wish.

The BK20 and BK29 are not the same knife and I ain't parting with my 20 for no hundred bucks, that's for sure.

Edit to add: Nice, you edited your post and now I sound crazy. Hakuna Mattada brother ;)

All knives can break. Especially made in high volume at these price points. There are examples from at least both these eras of Beckers, but by and large they are solid. Regardless, Ka-Bar has an excellent track record at replacing blades under warranty when issues do arise. They sell a LOT of these, and few fail in practice. We do likely see a larger percentage of the failures than successes here in the sub-forum due to what/who we are about.

Ka-bar initially roll-stamped blades, just like Camillus, but went to the laser etch to reduce stress and failures. Fewer blades come out bent for the same reason. It was a good engineering move, and also likely a cost savings. Ka-bar makes a very good product at this price point, and stands behind it.

But you should buy what you will love, or you won't be happy with it. Just don't expect others to agree with your rationalizations for your selection. (I have no opinion on the existence of fakes)

Don't be sorry for him being ignorant.

He came here for info. He got some, but since it didn't affirm his preconceived hopes, he is being stubborn.

Again, just go buy it and find out for yourself.
Good luck, you might need it.

Hey! That's my old Camillus 9!
A single tear rolls down my cheek every time I see that pic or remember that nasty "snap"!
I liked the Camillus version a lot. Wish I still had it.
My "smooth" coated Cam 9 was grittier than the Ka-bar smooth versions.
I've seen 2 Camillus 9's break in chopping contests. No Ka-bar 9 has broke yet.

Is it a fake?...
I have no idea. I kinda doubt it though.
If you can get it at or below current prices it's probably a good deal.
Having owned one before, I don't think I'd pay any kind of premium.

*By the way...
I knew Camillus Beckers did not carry a warranty.
Ethan happened to be at BeckerWest when my 9 broke.
He told me to call him when he traveled back home and that he would replace it immediately.
I did. And he sent me a new laser etched Ka-bar version that he had.
That was pretty amazing of him to do that for me.
I'll always remember that and I'll always be thankful.
Ethan designs some great knives and I'll always be a fan.

That's a bit steep for me. But to each their own when it comes to purchases.

And yeah, let's be honest here.
We were swinging those 9's as hard as we could during the chopping competitions.
It's very possible the knife came down a little too flat and caused the snap. Very possible.
I seriously doubt a Cam 9 would break under any kind of normal use.

This one has been beat on pretty well. Its real Camillus. Warranty Schmarranty. The BK20 and BK29 are not the same knife. Rock and Roll stamp.
