Need to lose some weight....who's with me?

Yeah, I stop drinking heavily and the weight kind of pops back on. Always looking to loose 20 pounds

At 6 foot 8, 195 lbs I would happily take about 30 lbs off of one of you guys! Preferably muscle though. Genetics.....ya just can't defeat them. I will always be a damn bean pole, thanks Dad.:grumpy:

Okay, sounds like we are getting a good number to participate.

Hopefully a few more will join in, I'd like to get started by sometime early next week so if you are interested please indicate your interest by then.

:D:D

I like sweet's...there I admitted it. If I start snacking(cookies, candies, chips) I keep snacking all day. I am capable of stopping but I usually need some incentive to do that.
Right now I'm around 195-200 lbs, I would prefer to be down to 170-175.

So I'm just spitballing here but if anyone wants to join me in losing some weight post here and if we get enough people to join in maybe we can get a Busse Weightloss group going. ;)

Here is what I propose but I'm open to suggestions.
1) Set a goal (I don't care what it is but it needs to be realistic)
2) Timeframe (I'm thinking the weekend prior to Blade show would be the cutoff)
3)If you meet your goal weight you'd be entered in a drawing for something that I haven't figured out yet.
3b) I was considering if we have enough people everyone throw in $5-$10 and if you meet your goal you are entered in the drawing for the cash, however I don't know if this would be allowed per BF rules.
4) Your weight, goal and if you achieve it is on the honor system. If you want to post your weight you can but if you choose not to that is fine also.

Thoughts? Anyone want to join me or am I in this on my own?

:D:D

Hey Tubby, put up one of those Variants you're hoarding and I'm in…;)

Eric,

Your idea about losing weight is excellent, especially for its improvement to health! Excess weight is clearly linked to many health conditions including diabetes, heart disease, and others.

Congrats to those who have already lost weight! It is not easy at first, but it does get much easier and it is well worth the effort. At my peak weight I was 50-60 pounds overweight, but I did not feel bad, and I enjoyed overeating and eating lots of high-carb and high-fat foods. The result of my largely uncontrolled eating for about 40 years was a heart attack almost a year ago that came within minutes of killing me (I posted about this last year … my heart stopped minutes after the paramedics arrived, and they were able to revive me, and with an emergency procedure to place a stent in a blocked coronary artery I am alive and well). I was in the process of losing weight before the heart attack, but the damage was done from all of those years of neglect and abuse.

Not only have I lost 60 pounds (I went from 215 to 155), with a consistent diet I am able to easily maintain the weight loss. I follow the Mediterranean diet, except I avoid wheat almost entirely; read the book called "Wheat Belly" by Dr. William Davis - I highly recommend it! Since I stopped eating wheat, I have much more control over what and how much I eat, and I no longer snack at night.

Here are some links about the Mediterranean diet:

Best wishes to all of you in choosing to lose weight and eat healthy!

Let's do it!! Maybe part of the "buy in" could go towards purchase of a Custom "one off" Swamp Rat or Busse knife, given to the winner of the final drawing. Something to shoot for. Count me in!

I would join but I have to stay fat for awhile longer or else this -11 degree weather will kill me.

Cut out Sugar, Soda pop, & anything containing High Fructose Corn Syrup and cut down your intake of white bread & even if you do not do anything else you'll lose weight.

Soda Pop includes DIET SODA! Which should be renamed DIE! SODA.

My Wife works for the chemical company that did the scale up production process for various artificial sweeteners.
I can only say that the chemists that invent/concoct the stuff do not ever use it.

What should THAT tell you?

Make your own from half fruit juice like Welches Grape Juice and half Sparkling Water. MUCH better for your long term survival.

What I find rather funny about this is that when my dad was first diagnosed with diabetes he had to see a dietician for what he needed to change about his daily intake. She told him that the most results and long term success comes from lifestyle changes NOT diets. Her philosophy on diets is if it has the word DIE in it, how can it possibly be good for you? So this isn't the first time I've seen the word die used to describe diet.

The most impactful thing in our control is diet. Visit marksdailyapple.com for some good info. I exercise when I can, but focus more on what I eat. My big problem is the beer and booze....duh.

...
Excellent point (assuming the calories from those things are not replaced with calories from something else)! I would add that all of those items have little or no nutritive value.

Another excellent point! I believe most people think of a diet as something temporary until they achieve their weight loss goal, then it is back to their old eating habits, and eventually the lost weight returns.

It is all about change and even just willingness to trying something different in our lives.
if there is a problem, change is needed.....

I agree with knocking out wheat. Read the book wheat belly and grain brain.
Wheat is the lowest class, cheapest of the grains!!! Lol I refuse to eat garbage, and that how I see it now.

Also watch Fat,sick, and nearly dead, and Food Inc.

I've lost 105 pounds since June 2013... I am going for 40 more. All I did was cut out the wheat. no added exercise, just no wheat.
I wanted to prove to my self that I was fat because of something out of my control. I did not know what was making me fat, until I cut out the wheat. The weight will fly off :) Google the word wheat and all the bad things it does, and you'll be surprised.

Beware of Monsanto.....they have a strong hold on the food industry, and Americans. .

I love the mean green juice. I use 2 heads kale 2 lemons 2 Granny Smith apples, 1 cucumber, a thumb of ginger, 7 celery sticks, and I add a grapefruit to sweeten it up. I used this to reboot my taste buds, and since then I really can taste chemicals and fake flavored foods. I try to eat organic as much as possible and buy locally.

Have fun and stay healthy!!!

You're not alone with the beer and booze problem. I have a feeling that this year I'm going to try to give up beer for lent. Maybe...

I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Congrats on your impressive weight loss, that's incredible! Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead was a big inspiration to getting me on the right track as well. Once you get used to eating clean you really can tell a huge difference in the taste of truly good food, and the stuff that is full of chemicals and poison.
