Need to lose some weight....who's with me?

Just to add my 2 cents, a year ago this month I started a boot camp/cross fit style class just to get in better shape. My goal at the end of 6 weeks was to lose 10 pounds and reduce my BP and cholesterol (I was on an Rx for HBP and niacin for the chol). A year later, I'm down 30 pounds, completely off the Rx for HBP and my cholesterol is now well within normal limits, without supplements. I've never been this "in shape" - even when Fred and I both trained for, and finished, a marathon back in '98. As far as diet change, the only thing I really changed was counting calories (MyFitnessPal is great for that) and switching to a more whole-food diet. Reading In Defense of Food was eye-opening, to say the least.

I'm looking forward to the success stories and seeing y'all at Blade! Stick with it- having the accountability of this thread will be motivating, for sure.

Keep the good mojo and advice coming. A good cheering section is always welcome when there are people undergoing a lifestyle change!

Side note, I just realized that Valentine's Day is Friday. That means all the candy goes on sale Satruday...Ho hum! :( Oh well, I can still bake for everyone else. We'll just have to see how much will power I have to stay out of the cookie jar. If I can't, the treadmill will be my best friend this weekend.

Ugh! Ok, I'm off to a late start looks like. I'll weigh myself in the morning and post starting weight and goal weight, although I'm pretty sure the goal will be 220 lbs.

I'm in... need to get back to my old 'playing' weight; need to go from pork-backer, back to line-backer!

285 back to 215

250 by Blade (-35lbs)

Testosterone injections (doctor prescribed), weight training and 11 miles a day of cardio. I also gave up Caffeine completely, stopped drinking anything that had sodium in it (coke zero, i miss you) and cut down to only eating Bacon once a day.

Oh and i gave up anything with sugar in it

Im in...add me to the list please. I just joined a gym and am making serious changes to my terrible diet. Right now im 191 lbs I would like to get down to around 165-170. Ive gotta lose the gut. My end goal is to be able to run a marathon with the old lady. She runs alot of races including the marine corps marathon.......26.2 miles......nuff said.

I have slowly given up on caffeine, there are many days that I miss a nice hot pot of coffee in the morning but some fresh orange juice and ice water do the trick pretty well. Congrats on your progress!

Marathons are a lofty goal! I want to be able to finish one in an impressive time for my age group by the end of summer next year. Fingers crossed, right now 26.2 miles seem like a death wish.

Great idea, I wish you all success!
I started last May, I joined Weight Watchers, joined a gym, cut out the trash food and watched my portions. I'm 5'9 I started at 210# I hit my goal of 174 about three months ago, I'm 172# right now and probably the best shape ever of my 54 years on this rock:)
Since BePrepared posted a pic, here is one I just took at my gym, maybe give someone some inspiration, if an old man can do it so can you!

I've added you to the list. Good luck on the marathon training.

Salvo,
Looking good. Congrats on the weight loss.

:D:D

How's everyone holding out? Today has been a tough one for me. Candy and goodies everywhere that I have to keep telling myself are no good. :( I can handle a cheat day, but it won't happen today. There are too many treats that I would give into peer pressure for, if I said I could have one then it would be down hill from there. Stay strong everyone!

Salvo, You give me hope my friend. We have very similar body types and I am about 215# right now. I am hoping to get to where you are. Congrats and continued health.

Salvo.. Your a beast, man!

Your advice on portion control is spot-on! Also right on about the trash food. Empty calories will pack fat on a fella faster than anything. Fries, chips, etc... all simple carbs are a killer. They do nothing for the body but put on fat.

Refined sugars may be the worst, though. New studies hold the theory that the sugar 'rush' damages your blood vessels and arteries which is what causes cholesterol to stick and clog.

Good luck to all you guys!

Don't fall for the after Valentines day sales on candy either.

I lost 4 lbs last week, this is just portion control and no snacking. I want to get some more exercise in but didn't last week. Hopefully the weight continues to come off.
Good luck to everyone else as well.

I'm just avoiding the holiday sale aisles when I do go into stores. If I don't see it, then I won't want it. That's my theory anyway.

I managed to survive Valentines without eating to much candy and looking forward to a weigh in soon. Great job Salvo. I need to show your picture to my dad who is about the same age as you and maybe it will inspire him.

So proud of all you guys. I am one of the pep team cheering you on. Hope to drop a few along the way, too.
