Need to lose some weight....who's with me?

It is all about change and even just willingness to trying something different in our lives.
if there is a problem, change is needed.....

I agree with knocking out wheat. Read the book wheat belly and grain brain.
Wheat is the lowest class, cheapest of the grains!!! Lol I refuse to eat garbage, and that how I see it now.

Also watch Fat,sick, and nearly dead, and Food Inc.

I've lost 105 pounds since June 2013... I am going for 40 more. All I did was cut out the wheat. no added exercise, just no wheat.
I wanted to prove to my self that I was fat because of something out of my control. I did not know what was making me fat, until I cut out the wheat. The weight will fly off :) Google the word wheat and all the bad things it does, and you'll be surprised.

Beware of Monsanto.....they have a strong hold on the food industry, and Americans. .

I love the mean green juice. I use 2 heads kale 2 lemons 2 Granny Smith apples, 1 cucumber, a thumb of ginger, 7 celery sticks, and I add a grapefruit to sweeten it up. I used this to reboot my taste buds, and since then I really can taste chemicals and fake flavored foods. I try to eat organic as much as possible and buy locally.

Have fun and stay healthy!!!

Al

Just popping in to say congrats on a job well done!

I am currently carrying about 40 lbs too much. I'm working on it.

This is not an entry but best of luck to everyone wanting to slim down.

I'm in. Not for cash, well if it's approved I could be. I currently weigh 330 lbs. Would like to get down to 260 eventually but loosing 30 pounds by blade should be doable. Let's see what I can do.

Most of us in the US of A drink most of our calories. Sugared drinks are the biggest culprits. Alcohol follows closely. I'd probably be a skinny SOB if it wasn't for beer and whiskey.... and completely miserable for the lack of it.

.

I do not need to lose any but I am happy to offer support and advice. I will be going to college for Exercise Physiology *snip*
Good luck.

I got my undergrad in exercise science. I'm finishing the last bit of my master's in biomechanics. I also hold an NSCA CSCS cert (National Strength and Conditioning Assoc. - certified strength and conditioning specialist...what a mouthful).

To everyone else, I too can offer advice.

Ok, here's my list of who is "IN" for the Busse Weight loss club. If you have set a goal of what to lose but I don't have it on the list or if it is incorrect let me know. If you haven't set a goal I'd suggest you do so. Setting goals is the first step to achieving them. ;)
If there is anyone not on the list that wants to be let me know. If there is anyone on the list that doesn't want to be....to bad. ;) I added a couple that were a little wishywashy in their posts.... ;)

Eric, below are some things I recently posted over in Todd Hunt's forum. Also, we have ongoing "Move Your Butt" and "Weights and Fitness" challenges in the Becker subforum; anyone is welcome to participate, or you could do something like those here in Busse.

Since the end of last summer, I've shed over 60 pounds, and it was easier than I thought it would be. My daughter cracks me up though. Every time I mention "fat Papa," she looks sad and says, "I miss him." :p

Three things helped me:

(1) I saw a coworker drop a good amount of weight pretty quickly with diet and exercise. Seeing is believing.

(2) At his recommendation and my wife's recommendation, I food logged so I could keep track of exactly what I was eating. MyFitnessPal.com has an extensive database of foods, so I did not have to constantly enter food label info into a spreadsheet. Most everything is already there, and it's easy to enter new foods and recipes. There's even a smart phone app that scans UPC codes on packaging. The platform will make recommendations based on weight, exercise level, and target weight, and it will keep it safe. If you don't eat enough on a given day, it will basically tell you to go eat more calories. The first few weeks were kind of tough as I went from what was likely a 4K calorie/day habit (or more) down to about 1600 calories a day. But once I got used to the routine, it was easy. I dropped from a high of 229 down to a current weight that is fluctuating between 165 and 170. The system also taught me to use my calories wisely so that I was eating more nutritious and filling food rather than junk with empty calories.

(3) I started running. Well, walking at first to get my knees stronger. Then, I did the Zen Labs "Couch to 5K" program and ran a 5K back in October. At the end of November, I ran a five-miler, and I have some 5K's and 10K's in my sights this year. I run about three times a week, and when it warms up, I'll start doing more trail runs.

I'm in weight maintenance mode now and eating around 2300-2400 calories/day. My wind is back, and I can run 6-7 miles without any issue (other than tight calves/Achilles). I want to work mostly on strength and flexibility at this point. Maybe I'll finally take up rock climbing now that I don't have to heft so much ass up the side of a cliff. :p

You can do it, and it's simple science. Burn more than you eat. Go slow and safe.

Want more inspiration?

  • I don't sweat like I used to. With all that fat, my body didn't regulate heat like it's supposed to. Now, I only sweat when Moose is around and wearing a kilt.
  • My gear fits so much better. All my old hunting and kayaking clothes fit. My kayaks ride higher. I'll actually get to use my paddle board this year without fear of sinking it. Even my packs fit better.
  • I don't tire as quickly. At one point, walking up a couple flights of stairs would wind me. I get more done in general because I'm not worn out.
  • My knees have thanked me. At one point, I got tendonitis in my knees by overdoing exercise, but a big part of the story was the weight my knees were carrying.

I really think the food logging is huge. If you're like me, you don't realize how much you're taking in until you see it on the screen in numbers.
And you don't have to go as severe as I did from the start. Admittedly, I was grumpy as hell for three or four weeks until my body acclimated.
On MFP.com, for instance, you can set the pace of your weight loss so that you gradually scale yourself down to a healthier intake. Just takes some finagling of the settings and some patience and decent discipline.

MFP.com adds in calories when you exercise. At first, I was pretty adamant about NOT eating into my earned calories. Weight loss went quicker, but it was tougher.
Now that I don't want to lose any more weight, I tend to eat back the calories I burn. On long run days where I burn 800-1000 calories exercising, it's actually kind of tough for me to eat that much, so I wind up eating four or five smaller meals instead of three.

Oh yeah, a food scale is essential if you're going to keep an eye on what you eat.
This one has been rock solid for me: http://www.taylorusa.com/kitchen/food-scales/biggest-loser-kitchen-scale-1.html
All the major vendors and box stores carry it.

Weighing food is probably the biggest pain, but it keeps you honest, and after a while, you get pretty good at eyeballing stuff and estimating (at restaurants, other people's houses, etc.)
If it's not quick and easy to log something, I usually just take a quick pic of a meal with my phone, and then use it later to log the food.

My plan is to shave off 2kg/month.

I'm cutting out sweets today, so this is my starting day. Along with that I'm going to lower my meal sizes. This has worked for me in the past when I've added some additional exercise so that is what I plan to do this time as well.

I'll keep you updated.

I've always heard that if you tell someone else what your goals are you work harder to achieve them(so you don't look like a fool)
So my goal is to start today ;)

:D:D

Guyon,
Thanks for the info. Some good stuff there. I may end up doing some running, but we'll see ;)

My blood pressure is ridiculous and my clothes don't fit, I am probably at my heaviest.
I'll weigh myself after work for the record.
For the record; 233#

I would join but I have to stay fat for awhile longer or else this -11 degree weather will kill me.

Hahahahaha great point. . . . I might have to put off the weight loss until the spring. I hope everyone is doing well during their weight loss quest! I've started the 30 day Squat challenge 6 days ago and I can already see a difference. My issue is not seeing instant results and getting sidetracked. . . mostly sidetracked by fudge bars LOL But I can see the definition starting and its gearing me up! Good luck everyone

Today started my actual change. I'm not trying to cut things out of my intake that I love (ice cream, sweets, etc), mainly because I've found that if I completely eliminate it from my diet I fall off the wagon a lot easier. Soda, however, is gone all together. I hadn't had a soda in a while and decided that I can live without that easily. I'm just cutting way way WAY back on the amount that I am eating. I wrote down a new workout regimen and have decided that I'm officially giving up on excuses. One of the guys I used to work out with told me every night at the gym, "You can be sore tomorrow or you can be sorry, take your pick"

Let's do this! Who else is amped up and excited about being healthier?

Sounds like you are off to a good start.

I've always found that the first few days are the hardest. I cut sweets today and no more between meal snacks. If I make it through Wednesday it should become a little easier for me, I hope it will be the same for you. We will suffer through the next few days together. ;)

:D:D

BTW, I've edited my first post in this thread to include the "official" list. If anyone else wants to join in or make changes/updates please post.

:D:D

Good luck to everyone. I did this myself last January. Started at 278 and am now 215. Tweaking my diet now to get to 200 and get the abs to show. I can offer advice if anyone needs it?
