Need weapon for office environment

I know it's strange to want a weapon in an office, but I never underestimate the capacity for normally sane people to do horrible things. People snap. Many, many people react strongly to their emotions and don't consider the consequences of their actions.

Take this thread for example.:D

I've been thinking about the Kuboton option and I think it's a worse idea than a knife because a Kuboton IS a weapon and, even more, it's ONLY a weapon. A knife, at least, is a tool first - or at least can be sold that way. I have a creative-type job and work with a lot of paperboard mediums - building things and whatnot - so I often have to cut open cartons and tough cardboards, etc. I could easily claim that I need a larger knife in addition to my pretty one for "tough jobs".

I've got a little knife sock I can keep my custom in in the bottom of my pocket. Next to that I can put my Benchmade D2 AFCK with no clip. The blade has been sterilized satin and no longer says AFCK or the model number or anything. You'd have to be pretty knife smart to know it wasn't designed as a working tool.

I'll surely lose it if I put a knife in my back pocket. Things are falling out of my back pocket all the time.

There is nothing wrong with being prepared and carrying a knife may be your choice for that. I worked in a downtown multi story building for years. I had to walk a couple of blocks to and from the parking garage daily past the street dwellers and always was on guard. Several folks got mugged over the years. I carried a Benchmade Pardue. I took the clip off of it and put a piece of black leather thru the lanyard hole and put a few black beads on the leather. I hung the beads out of my pocket as if it was my keys. They were easy to grab in a pinch. You could do the same with a decorative braided lanyard although that might draw attention. You could also leave the beads and leather inside your pocket until you felt the need to move them to the outside (IE: the walk to the parking garage at night) That BM is the thinnest folder I have seen. It will not print in dress pants and it has a wicked grind to it. Using your fists is all fine and good provided its even steven and you decide thats what you want to do. You have the right to protect yourself and all rules are off when you are attacked. P.S. This is not the first recomendation for the Pardue in here. Check it out.

Bladeprince. this thread is for a suggestion, of what sort of carry knife the author should use, in an increased visibility workplace. ONLY. Please see posts 22 and 37 immediately, or get a violation... KEEP ON SUBJECT. HE WANTED TO KNOW WHAT SORT OF KNIFE HE SHOULD CARRY, NOT KNIFE ALTERNATIVES!........

lol

You suggest a knife. I'll suggest an alternative that might keep the young man from getting into a lot of trouble. You may wish to look a post #50 to see if he thought my suggestion was useful.

I'm not attacking anyone or putting down anyone's advise. If that's gets me a "warning", then so be it. It's worth it if it helps him.

Well, theres always these too. I forgot about these.

how about a beltbuckle knife? then there still several other tiers of defense like the tearjerker rings, penknives, and maybe some flashlights as well.

Somebody, obviously not wanting to publically be on record with the suggestion, PMed me with a buckle knife suggestion.

I have mixed feelings about it. While it IS an excellent concealment option, getting caught with it or, god forbid, having to use it would put a person in a situation of having to explain why they had it.

I'm really leaning toward the a-knife-is-a-tool-first line of reasoning should it ever be discovered that I was carrying a larger blade.

This means figuring a way to carry; either in-pocket or some kind of clip on my waistband. I tried my SERE 2000, but the clip is black and exceptionally long.

Maybe the SOG Trident. It has a nice short clip, but I wonder if that agressive checkering would be uncomfortable inside my pants.

and i totally agree with your non knife alternative. im with you on that. and i also value the guys job as well. i want him to keep his job too.. but when I suggest something other than a knife, i get yelled at for it.. I was making fun at the inequality in this thread, not bashing you, or the author. Sorry if I came off wrong.

and fulloflead, i see your point on the 'intentionally hiding a weapon' deal. that is true.. never considered that.

Based on the very title of this topic,"need weapon for office environment", this whole thread should be deleted.

What is this person thinking of ?:thumbdn:

How about not having it on you? How about something easily accessible in your attache? In an overcoat pocket?

May I also recommend the BM Pardue 530? I'm gettin' one myself for urban office/fend off nutcases on the mass transit commute home carry.

...and don't tell anybody...I have an Urban Pal velcroed inside a soft attache pocket. Say what you will about Cold Steel, but I think that little bugger might ruin some threat's day.

Ya know, if you were a big baseball fan, you'd have an autographed bat hanging right on your wall for you to brag about . . . . ;)

FOL, I'm a 6'3" fat guy. With bad knees. Who sometimes brings a walking stick with him. ;)

There must be a woodcarver somewhere in your area that can make you a fancy walking stick that can still crack someones skull. Face it, a large knife will cost you your job, a small knife will probably be okay, carry the walking stick.

a pretty antique style tanto in sheath passed off as a letter opener, the flashier the trappings the better, along with a funtional heart. Course that is just for the desk.

My 2 cents- Place any knife that you like w/ a clip in your waistband, then put your cellphone/case on you belt right in front of it. It will hide the exposed part of the knife. This way, you can just use your regular edc.

CRK's Mnandi has a very penlike clip that might make it look more like a writing implement than a cutting tool.....

I vote for this one, too. I have an ironwood Mnandi that the office girls think is 'cute', but it's strong, has a couple inch long blade, and when clipped to my suitpants pocket looks just like a pen clip. It's small enough too that it's not even noticed in the pocket.

I work downtown Denver and in a banking investment firm. I am the mailroom manager, so my dresscode is more relaxed. I usually wear a polo shirt that hangs slightly past my belt and pocket line, which helps hide my G-10 Meadowlark in my back pocket. The black clip and black scales are also nice as it blends in with all of my black pants. I use this knife to open boxes and cut plastic binding strips, among other things. If you can't use a pocket knife as an excuse for a tool, maybe look into one of those Superknives (folding/locking box cutter)? Maybe a knife that offers a 'lowrider' type clip? Just my .02 :)
