Need weapon for office environment

I do not know if it has been mentioned yet but check out the Fred Perrin Pen over at EDCknives. I just got mine a few days ago and I love it.

Hey all..I have only read up to page three of this post so sorry if this has been mentioned before. Anyway, my office environment is fine..very secure..however I work in a skyscaper in the middle of one of the slummiest parts of Sydney. There are a lot of druggies and scumbags everywhere. So I knife could come in handly. The best way I have found is to carry a leek or spyderco native in the small of my back. I clip it onto the actual trousers, and then cover most of the clip with my belt. It is very unnoticeable yet quick to draw. It also works on the front of my trousers to the side of the front zipper, and I can even cover it more with a cellphone and work id tag. Another idea I had was to get a maxpedition versipack (probably jumbo) and get the holster attachment. This would allow me to carry something like a master tanto and be quick to draw. That last one isnt much use for the office, but very useful for the journey to and from the office.

Sorry if this is OT, but...

Out of curiosity Irezumi, what excuse do you use for carrying your knife? Or just hide it and hope for the best?

Jim/FOL, remember that if something were to ever happen someday, lawyers could use this thread against you. Not that you've done anything wrong, but the title could be used against you by sheeple.

Full of ....
1) Carrying a knife at work is not going to solve the number of problems you have.
2) Get over the "used to" feeling of carry a large tactical knife. Someone is goin to take it away from YOU, and use it on you.
3) Watch out for carrying a weapon at work, as it is against company policy. Get caught, and your GONE.
4) Perhaps a change of employment.

That's harsh. In an office a knife will help open mail, boxes of xerox paper with plastic banding, packages from UPS, bags of chips and kill time admiring it (closed of course). :D

Why is someone going to take it away from him and use it on him?

I agree with you on the employment issue. The unemployment rate is low enough nationwide that other jobs with more relaxed workplaces are probably available in your job market. Then again, maybe not. Around here the unemployment rate is between 3% & 4%.

In any office I've worked in, if you passed the hours by admiring your knife (even closed) you'd be gone.

I said it earlier, and I'll say it again...bring any knife you want, but keep it off your person, but very, very discreetly handy (coat pocket, briefcase, ...).

It's not harsh ... it's truthful.
If he needs a chip bag opener (you are kidding right), letter opener, etc. which he never even mentioned. SEE your supervisor, have the company provide it ....
The company policy does NOT allow weapons .... pure and simple.
Stop sugar coating it for this guy. He's goin' get into trouble.

JGarth & marcinek,

Nice sense of humor. This place is really becoming pretty uptight for a Blade forum. ;)

I feel for you guys. In my office, half the people carry and use folders on the job. Everything from Spyderco Jesters to Spyderco Dragonflys to Benchmade 710s to Chris Reeve Sebenzas. The other half just ask to borrow them. Seriously.

Oh yeah, JGarth, do we really need to save him from himself?

V-1, I'm glad to hear you are working in a place where you can.

I carry a Gerber Shortcut on my keys. Really, lets be honest, something like that or SAK is more than enough to take care of any office-related work task.

That said, I think many people would like to have something with them that would provide, at least, a sense of protection on the streets to and from work. But that secenario is difficult to pull off.

On top of that, and the worst part, is that I've only gotten into the knife thing within the last 6 months or so, and I can't take my cool new knives anywhere, dadgummit.

That's a shame. Without a doubt, here in the US, some states and cities are much more lienant (dare I say realistic) then others when it comes to knife laws.

So I guess it's OK to tell the guy standing on the edge of a bridge to "jump" to0:rolleyes:

Hey mate...well I certainly don't flash it around. It would only be for the utmost emergency. As they say, don't draw it if you aint gonna use it. It would have to be some crazy situation that was life threatening, which aint gonna be in the office (for example if some junkie came at me as I'm walking to the bus). It is only a little kershaw leek anyway, the master tanto in the versipack was just an idea for the guy who started this thread. I don't feel the need to carry one of them yet.

Two completely different situations. One is a question of personal responsiblity while the other is a question of advocating suicide.

So where does one learn this magicical talent? If it is so easy, then the OP could simply take the knife back and be back to square one.

This is one of the best, and most frightening, posts on this thread from one of my favorite members on BF.

I don't know what to say other than I'm one of those "Boy Scout" types that always tries to be prepared. Many people choose to be prepared by carrying a weapon of some sort. This IS a knife forum and we're ALL used to carrying knives. If I ever have to use one, god forbid, to save my ass my intention is only to allow enough time to GET AWAY to a safe place as can be evidenced by the fact that I chose a PEN as my favorite option. The perfect scinario being to inflict just enough pain to distract long enough to get to a safe place or to call for help.

Of course, if I were as smart as S.H.S., I would have clarified this in my first post. But this is something that should be obvious to anyone with a self-defense attitude.

AND, also this is probably moot considering that I write this AFTER SHS mentioned lawyers.

Oh, well. My intentions were innocent enough.

As far as you wants for defence in your workplace without getting fired I'd have to say keep your small slip joint and make good use of the
TDP (kubotan pen from Mil-Tac).

Do you wear a jacket? maybe you could incorporate a mercharness or something similar under a jacket or even a shirt if you select the right knife.

I'm not in an office but I have certain restrictions regarding knives due to my country being run by sheeple so I have a Boker Subcom on my belt and I have just removed the clip from my CRKT M16-13LE, which is the smaller of the M16 series, and I have that just inside my pocket, having my wallet hold it upright against the outside edge of the pocket, being within easy reach.

I'll be purchasing the TDP-1 as soon as my wife lets me just so I don't have to draw my M16 if I'm feeling threatened (it fits in the hand when its closed soooo nicely that it makes you want to hit something with it, plus it has hard anodized aluminium handles for strength)
