I generally carry a pocket knife with a blade of 3-3.5" in length. That seems to be big enough to handle most chores without getting too bulky, or frightening to observers.

I use my knife daily to open bags & boxes, cut twine, clean my nails, cut fruit & other foods, and most importantly it is my ever-present staple-remover. Other tasks I encounter from time to time are too numerous to try to catalogue, but I do enjoy whittling regularly. And removing splinters.

I started carrying a pocketknife when I was 10, and haven't been able to live without one in the near-30 years since. Practically every day one friend or another will ask to "borrow my knife for a minute."

Sorry to hear some jerk is looking for easy money.

1. Normally my folders range from 90 to 110 mm (95 per cent of my time while I am in urban areas), fixed blades - from 100 to 130 mm (the remaining 5% of my time, while I am in the wild).

2. In the city - mostly cutting boxes, ropes, loose threads, slicing foodstuffs of all kinds.. Probably I should also mention a couple of cases, when I had to use it for self-defense, but really a couple only in some 10 years..
Outdoor I use knives for all sorts of camping work and a little woodwork, too.

3. Since I was 12.

I just hope this helps.. :)

Hi,

1. EDC is normally a Military or one of my Natives
Also have a multi-tool in my briefcase, and another one in the car.

2. General purpose type activities - and slicing up fruit everyday for lunch.

3. From when I was around 8.

Regards

1. 3.5"
2. Everyday tasks; Opening packages, slicing/preparing fruits & vegetables
3. 8 -9 years of age

1. Usually within 1/2 inch of the longest blade legally allowed by local jurisdictions.
2. I typically carry a dedicated knife for ultility purposes (opening letters and boxes, cutting string and tape, cutting limes for gin and tonics, etc.) and a dedicated knife for personal defense.
3. I began carrying knives for utility around age 10 and for personal defense around age 12.

Stay safe,

Hmmm....I wonder if this is the reason?

I saw a clip on TV of a court case in the Boston area where a guy is being tried for murder. He stabbed someone with what appeared to me to be a Military. The knife was shown only very briefly, and the view was partially obstructed, but it looked like one from what I saw. The reporter made some comments about the size of the knife, that 4" is huge, and not like a Swiss Army knife (her words).

It sounded like one of those cases of was it self defense or not, and perhaps the prosecution is making a case of the type of knife he was carrying.

1. i carry a 3.5"-4" blade most of the time.
2. i use a knife at work (as a surveyor) for "erasing" on wood. i also use it for cutting flagging, and peeling/slicing fruit at lunch. i also carry a knife around town and at home, which i use to open boxes or packages, for cutting food, and trivial, everyday tasks.
3. i began carrying a knife at the age of 11. stopped carrying one for several years, and then began carrying again when i was 23.

abe m.

1. I carry a SAK everyday and my other EDC rotates between a Military, 710 or a Ralph/Wilson Combat Elite, length 3.5 to 4 inches.

2. I use my knife daily to cut open delivery bags, opening mail ect.

3. My Grandfather gave me a Barlow when I was 7 and have carried a knife almost daily since that time.

I carry several knives/tools as EDC buy my general preferred blade length is from at least 3" but usually 3.5" to 4".

I have been carrying knives since age 13.

I use my knives for typical things like cutting straps, cutting up boxes, opening packages, light gardening, cutting rope/twine, slicing fruit/vegetables, opening cans(multi-tool knives), scraping, etc. I also carry in case I become trapped in a burning car and the seatbelt gets stuck. Don't laugh; I know of at least one case where a woman was trapped in her car and could have easily escaped had she had a cutting tool to cut her stuck seatbelt; she ended up burning to death. Several construction workers also failed to get her out because oddly, not one of them had a knife either.

i think the reason u gave to cut yourself free is very smart. Sometimes, specially in flipped over (older) cars your bodyweight can make it almost impossible to unclip the seat belt, especially when u have wet (bloody) hands or if u are dazzled from the shock. My mean reason why i carry is as SD and to free people out of wrecks in similar circumstances. I have been called to an accident where 4 people were burning alive in a flipped over car, but the heat was to high to reach them. If one of them or a bystander had the guts and the knife to try to free them earlier before the heat was to high, some of them could still be alive.

Good thinking

3. Since I was 16 (I'm 40 now).

I always carry a balisong. Usually 3-4" blade.
