Need your help

Almost always carry both an itty bitty sak and a one hand opening 3" or so. I have insisted on carrying a single hand opening knife with locking blade (unless i have a fixed blade on me) ever since reading some stories like the one about the lifeboat on the titanic dangling from the stuck line, everyone hanging on, and the auto knife being the only safe way to take care of it. No, I do not have any autos now, just stick with the holey and buttoned blades. So many times I have had the item needing cutting in one hand, and without a one-hander it would either need to be redone or escape..

Boxes, packages, wire insulation, gardening, topiary, carving packing foam to fit, fixing whatever can be fixed with a knife, cutting whatever needs cutting.

I have carried since cub scouts, whenever that was. In my 40's now.

1. What size (blade length) knife do you normally carry?

2. What do you use your knife for?

3. At what age did you begin carrying a knife?

1. My current EDC's are a Spyderco Military, MT Amphibian, and Al Mar S2k, so anywhere from 3.5 to 4".

2. For my EDC's, typically light cutting chores: opening packages, cutting string, rope or 550 (parachute) cord, trimming fingernails (carefully! ). For my other knives, any number of outdoor uses; like food preparation, firemaking, hunting/skinning/field dressing chores, cutting various types of line, light woodcutting/chopping, clearing vegetation.

3. I've had knives since I was about 9, but didn't carry everywhere daily until about 25. I'm 37 now.

Best wishes Sal, hope this helps.

1: 3-3.5" utility blade.

2: cutting boxes open, papers, juice/milk jugs, prying small cans open, cut ropes, cables, remove parts of cookies I don't like  , etc.

3: 18 y/o I started with clip folders, before that I used to carry saks around, but not all the time.

Hi.

I'd like to thank all of you very much for your replies. The information was for a court case in Boston regarding a self defense issue involving a Harvard grad student.

You have been great. It is good to know that the knife community can pull together when needed. We collected quite a bit of information on three forums.

Thanx again,

sal

I saw the closing arguments on Court TV, it looks like the defense has a chance, no need to mention names just read a east coast paper, it's all over the national news.

Best of luck Sal I hope all the info helped, we'll see when the jury comes back.

Good luck Sal.

That CourtTV blonde woman really gets on my nerves. She's sarcastic instead of intelligent, she's talking out of her colon, and she's trying to villainize the knife carrying aspect just as teh prosecution did. She couldn't be more obnoxious :barf:

Hi, Sal

I usually carry something with a 3 to 4 inch blade. When camping I might have a knife with a blade 9 to 12 inches in length for general camp chores.

I use my knives for everything from cutting cardboard boxes to skinning game.

I've had a knife of some sort since early childhood... certainly before the age of 6.

Around town I carry one folder with a 3.5" - 4" blade, and one FB around 2"-2.75" blade. When in the woods I add a 6" - 10" fixed blade.

Utility cutting & some food cutting when needed. Secondary purpose of self defense.

Been carrying a knife on and off since I was around 8 yrs old.

Sal,

Hope things work out in your favor.

1. 2.5 to 3.5 inches.

2. mundane tasks: opening boxes, cutting threads, cardboard, etc.

3. Dad gave me my first knife when I was 4. (things were different back then knives were tools and they still are to me.)

I usually carry a 3 to 4 in. blade for utility purposes.I have carried knives on and off for about 30 yrs. since I was 15. I have EDCed for about the past 5 yrs.

Sal,

(1) Usually 3.5 inches - 4.5 inches

(2) Cutting shade cloth, boxes, twine, plastic zip ties, fashioning jigs, working in the garden, and occasionally saving lives.

(3) I started to carry my first knife every single day at age 8 or 9 (1968 or 1969) to school, work in the fields, at play, and when fishing.

I hope this information has been helpful and may God Bless You & Yours!

I guess I got sucked into another very vintage resurrected thread.

Who does this and Why?:jerkit:

I usually carry a 3- 3 1/2 inch knife. I use mine for all kinds of things; opening boxes to cutting up fruit at lunch time. I have been carrying a knife since I was 7 years old.

Can anyone say what the case was about and how to turned out? I read the first post and it's from 2004. Someone said they remembered seeing it on TV? Really?

If I remember right a guy killed another guy with a spyderco military. Pretty sure he went to prision. I think having the word "Military" on the blade was a big deal for the prosecutor, which is why spyderco no longer puts it on their blades.

Sent Needle a PM, maybe he can tell you more.
