Neva and Shadowynn: An Alaskan Tale of Two Tails

Working an angle on mark design. I'll need to know what file format Ian/Les need in order to do their thing.

Also, those designs are entirely badass. Hope I can toe the mark adequately.

If you have it in a CAD file that's awesome, but just about any file format is just fine (pdf is the worst)

I will make whatever you have work. Anyone that needs marking done for this just e mail me and we will get it sorted out.

And I can mark on pretty much any material as well, just as an FYI

I'm kind of the same as Mr. George with a slight caveat.

I don't really have an initial preference but all files will eventually make their way to monochrome bitmap.

Basically with the photoetching, the mask sharpness and darkness is key, so the files ideally need to be true black and not have jpeg artifact fuzz around the edges. You can't give the printer or software any chance to "help" by aliasing edges, color adjustment, etc.

This is more important on smaller files but if it's a fairly big file by the time I scale it down the edges usually aren't quite as big of a deal.

That said, now I know why the stencil guys get so worked up about changes sometimes, I've had to literally go around the edge of every letter pixel by pixel in ms paint, not fun lol.

Edit: especially when you spend all evening tweaking a master file and then accidentally save in the wrong format... it'll make you wanna yell.

Travis and Mrs. put together this neat little mark for this project. I really like it; it's whimsical and captures the essence;

So Cool! Love what you are doing. If there's anything I can do, just let me know.

Getting Tingles!!! Love the Mark, and looking forward to helping out with this project. Lorien thanks for all your hard work!

Please, no thanks required- we're all in this together :)

^ awesome, Les!
I'm hoping to hear back from the Brunos soon, I'll provide the deets as they come in.

I've known this for the past 15+ years - knife folks are the best folks and so generous when it comes to helping others. Y'all ROCK!!!

Lorien says that it is up to the makers to do the auction, etc. however they like. Would it be possible to have links to where the knives will be auctioned? I'd sure like to see the final products, and maybe I could sell off one of my Munchkins so I could bid on one. (p.s. the Munchkins are my munchkin sized Lhasa Apso dogs).

good call, Judy! We'll make sure that, as the knives are made and completed, that the links to the sale of em show up in this thread.
If anyone wants to do a little WiP here, I'd be happy to help :)

I just received word from Pete Bruno that the patterns finally arrived in Jersey. It took awhile for them to get across the continent, but we're back on track.

Ryan will be receiving the blanks within the next little while, and we'll let you know when that happens.

hey folks, I'm sorry this has taken so long, but it appears as though things are moving forward!

Thanks so much to Ryan Weeks for staying on top of things, and to the Brunos for so generously donating their time and materials toward this huge collaborative project!

Okay, so it looks like there will be 11 sets made. Pete and Aldo will be finishing up a set, as will Ryan Weeks. Peter McKinley's spoken for a set, as has Shuyler Lovestrand. If I'm forgetting anyone who's already committed, please let me know here.

This leaves us with 7 sets. Drop me a pm if you are interested in taking part.

the blanks will be with Ryan very soon, and shortly after that, he can start sending them out.

It'll be up to the individual cutler to determine how long they need to finish these things out, keeping in mind that the idea is to turn these knives into cash for Haley and Adam sooner rather than later.

Participant list (up til this point):

Ryan Weeks
Peter and Aldo Bruno
Peter McKinley
Travis Fry
Ian Hall
Schuyler Lovestrand
Ben Seward
Matt Lane

There are three sets left. If you wanna take part, you'd best make your move now.

Ryan will start shipping these out next week to participants. Please send me your mailing addresses to lorien(@)loriendesign.ca, even if you've sent it to me already. I'm not very organized these days.
