New 14 run

My dead skunk was in the mail this afternoon. Almost perfect. I wish I had gotten both that I ordered but at least I got one. I’m very, very happy with this knife. (Can’t figure out yet how to include image.)

I appreciate your insight. I was thinking to myself yesterday that this single 14 really is an ideal knife for an environment where not only discretion is needed but also if it does get seen in use, it shouldn't raise any alarm bells (I say that almost tongue in cheek as I was forced to return my 2 blade 14 to my car when going to a pro soccer game, some gibberish about no weapons and all )

I still find it too small for me when it comes to regular use but I think it would serve as a terrific choice in my future travels as it should fit most criteria short of an outright knife ban.

I would say that this 14 certainly has a stronger pull and a much healthier snap than the recently produced 15s I have. It really is a very stoutly made knife.

Size-wise, I think the #14 is ok for most tasks, but the single blades do feel a bit small in hand when you're using them. Have you tried a #25, Dylan? (Sorry, I can't remember if I've seen you post one before.) They're similar in length to the #14 (closed length is just a hair shorter, actually), but much more satisfying to hold, feels more substantial in the hand.

Edited to add: I went back and searched the #25 thread and, as soon as I saw it, remembered the very thorough review you posted there when you received your first one from the last #25 Barlow run. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the #25 compared to the #14.

Also, for those of you who might be curious what the difference is in thickness between the single and 2 blade variants, I took the liberty of taking some side by side shots. As you can see, the difference is rather substantial.

Your side-by-side shot gave my one particular thing to look forward to with this run of #14's. One of my biggest complaints about the spearpoint from the first run was that the blades seemed a bit thick, particularly just behind the edge, for such a slim knife. Head on, that clip point looks nice and thin.

Thank you. When GEC posted their pics I only saw a couple that I wouldn't have liked if I had gotten one of those.

I know exactly which ones you are talking about...crossing my fingers. Glad you got a great one!

Same here. Hopefully it arrives on a day I can get to the mailbox before my wife.. I don't wanna have to explain "another damn knife."

Dude I play that game all the time. That's why I like when a knife ships UPS because I can divert it lol.

To add more data to the single-blade/double-blade comparison, my single-blade 14 in Ebony weighs 1.2oz, and my double-blade TC 14 in sawcut bone weighs 2.1oz. Both are spear points from the initial run. It makes for a very noticeable difference between the two.

For comparison's sake, my jigged bone Case Peanut weighs 1.2oz, and my yella delrin CV Sodbuster Jr weighs 2.1oz- for those who don't own a 14 yet.

2018 - pull a perfect 5, grippy micarta, excellent F & F, shield looks awesome in person

Nice, James!

I've been considering getting a PO Box.

My Post Office fills their PO Boxes when they load the delivery trucks each morning which is usually around 7:00am. I don't want it to avoid my wife. I just want my toys earlier.:D

Trying to make that skunk smell sweeter...
Sweet!!

“Acrylic is just lifeless plastic” is what I keep saying when I see a skunk or tortoise handle GEC knife. I am saying this a lot.

Maybe if I get just one acrylic then when I don’t like it, it will be easy to pass on them down the road. Like a vaccine.

This makes perfect sense to everyone?

Absolutely but it just might backfire on you.

I got the shipping notification this afternoon too. Can hardly wait for it to arrive.

Good luck on the mailbox race!:D

Ahhh...flowers for the wife on new knife day. Excellent strategy! lol
Momma didn't raise no dummy!

Now that I have the knife in hand I realize it matches the colors of the University of Wisconsin and since my son's a junior there with an upcoming birthday I think I'll put it back in the tube for him. The sacrifices we as parents make...
