New 14 run

Size-wise, I think the #14 is ok for most tasks, but the single blades do feel a bit small in hand when you're using them. Have you tried a #25, Dylan? (Sorry, I can't remember if I've seen you post one before.) They're similar in length to the #14 (closed length is just a hair shorter, actually), but much more satisfying to hold, feels more substantial in the hand.

Edited to add: I went back and searched the #25 thread and, as soon as I saw it, remembered the very thorough review you posted there when you received your first one from the last #25 Barlow run. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the #25 compared to the #14.

I do believe that some time ago when I got my first #14, I did a bit of a comparison between it and the 25 I had gotten previously. I think it might have been Harry who thought that I might prefer the 25 over the 14 so when I got it in, I immediately did a side-by-side. You are absolutely correct, if I were to make a choice between the 25 and 14, I would likely choose the 25.

I have pretty large hands with long fingers. I wear a size XL glove and depending on the glove maker, sometimes an XL is a bit too small. So I like a knife that has a bit of girth to it as it feels like I have more of a purchase on it when making cuts versus feeling like I am trying to cut with a needle (I hope that makes sense.) I love the heft of a 25, especially for a smaller knife, I would really like to try a 2 blade version and I hope that GEC makes something like that in the not so distant future. The 2 blade 14s put them in a similar category as the 25: A substantial knife in a small and tidy package.

Here are a couple of the shots I took when doing a comparison some time ago.

Your side-by-side shot gave my one particular thing to look forward to with this run of #14's. One of my biggest complaints about the spearpoint from the first run was that the blades seemed a bit thick, particularly just behind the edge, for such a slim knife. Head on, that clip point looks nice and thin.

The clip point is nice and thin and with it being a tad higher than the spear point, the grind thins out more gradually. The point will likely need a bit thinning out at the edge but I find that pretty typical with GEC knives anyway.

(I just remembered you PM'd me the other day. My apologies, I will respond at some point this evening.)

I collect. Lots of people collect lots of rare or hard to find specimens of some “thing.” There is no cruel or greedy intention there. Just Because you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean it’s bad...
Nothing wrong with collecting...Just as there is also nothing wrong with making money off an investment and creating a happy buyer on the other end. Either way these knives will make it to a customer that will appreciate the product. Flipping annoys the guys that have plenty but can not get enough. They need that new shield, that new handle material....its a drug. These people are as responsible as anyone for the aftermarket prices. They are on top of every short run always waiting to pounce, build the collection and forum bragging rites. There would be no excitement in short run rare knives if the value did not shoot up. People know if they get lucky they will be getting a deal. Collecting is all about being able to save high value items and enjoy knowing you have them to me. Its a risk because you want your collection to hold its value or increase (I got burnt on baseball cards). Thank these "flippers" and those pesky above market price buyers for bringing up the value of your collection or recent purchase right out of the gate. I am all done on this topic and can't wait for my 14 to arrive!:D

2018 - pull a perfect 5, grippy micarta, excellent F & F, shield looks awesome in person
Very well done GEC and GP knives...Thanks!!!

Beautiful micarta!! I’m going to have to search the for sale ads for one. Really like that look.

Yes, the canvas micarta has character. It also seems to make a small knife a little easier to grip than some of the other handle materials. The one I have is of the highest quality, even grinds, centered blade, spring absolutely flush with blade open or closed... just a wonderful example of skilled craftsmanship. Hope you find one soon and thanks again too those at GEC, great job.

Well now that I have a 14 in-hand I can confirm they are the perfect coin pocket size like I was hoping. I was really worried these would be a little too big for the small pocket but a little too small for the big pocket or in a slip...but I actually like it a lot. I am so glad because I have several more on the way :) My Peanuts won't be happy about this but the competition will be fun.

I can’t believe they have the blades in both 14 TC Barlow’s already in the update photos. They are really cranking them out.
Wow, ya they are...gonna be done sooner than I thought...

Man I wish they would get on with those Tortoise shell DLTs! They’re drivin me crazy!! We saw the blanks,,, then crickets!!

Oh man it was like a cruel tease! I have been checking the site every day for new photos but nada. Will make it that much sweeter when they finally pop up :)

Yup, I'm jonesin pretty hard for the DLT Tortoise with that handsome clip blade. I have an ebony 2-blade from the last run but the spear/pen combo never really clicked for me. Though it is an attractive little knife, spear/coping would have been more to my liking. I'm thinking that the 14 clip single will make a fine coin pocket knife.

Mailman reversed his route and got here at 9:00am instead of 4:00pm...hooray! What I realize now that I didn't notice in pics is the 3D aspect of this acrylic. The white is below a layer of clear, allowing for a bit of shadowy depth.

Beautiful example! The shadowing really gives it nice depth the effect is amazing.

If you already own a spear version from the 2016 run, check out the difference in the backsprings. I noticed this in one of the WIP pics that GEC had up. The older 1-hole springs kinda wrap around a bit more, and the new 2-hole jobs have that neat clean-sweep ramp thing going on. Easier to get out that pocket lint!;)

Guys, sorry to disappoint, but my sfo won't actually ship until Monday. I am just trying to get ahead on the shipping by printing labels and getting packaging ready, 'cuz I'm on my own and 100 orders takes time to prepare, but fear not! :):D;):)

I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait, Barry!

I’m enjoying all the pics of new 14’s and the comparisons to older 14’s.

I can’t wait to get Lyle’s 2-blade model in hand. It’s going to be sweet.
