NEW 4.7 Thread

I'm interested to see how the new spine and jimping goes for me. My thumbs are sissies and I prefer my jimpless GSO 3.5 spine to my jimped 5. I hope everyone is happy striking their knives on their ferro rods ;)
I'm sure the new spec blades will give my thumbs plenty of opportunity to toughen up!

I'm still debating just rounding off the shoulders on my CrV 4.7 and also my new 5.1. I'm with OBX, prefer the softer spine for thumb-placement. Also... finding i prefer the 4.7 to my RMD. The knife is compact and the handle really is more comfortable than most other knives out there, and the edge-geometry is just killer compared to a lot in this size-range. The bite is so nice and deep, hard not to prefer it over a plethora of other knives.

When you work on the jimping let us know how it goes. I'm sure I'd love to soften the jimping, but not at the risk of my lack of mod skills making my new, sexy blade look like a hack job

I think the 4.7 is just perfect like it is.

I agree, best jimping I've had. Thumb sticks right in place and does well with or without gloves. The rest of the handle is good in so many other grips, that if the thumb does get sore, it's easy to switch grips and still have great control.

I also think the jimping is a bit sharp. I work with my hands everyday, air conditioning in Arizona. I know my blood type 😢

I don't have a 4.7 on order, but do have a 3.5, so I can't wait for all these knives to get rolling [emoji854]. As for the jimping, it's probably my favorite part of survive knives. My biggest knock on my 3.5 is that it doesn't have jimping! I think both new and old spec knives do a great job of not being too sharp. I have some knives that will devour my thumb so I can sympathize with those who prefer jimpless

I love my 3.5 for the lack of jimping, lol. If I can ever trade you out of yours, hit me up redwood. And it just goes to show that no way can Guy please all of us 100% on every option, not gonna happen! :)

Having said that, I can understand jimping on a bushcraft blade. Personally, I spend a lot more time gutting and pulling hide, so I don't like anything to do with jimping for the possibility of catching gut, and then ease of clean up afterward. That probably puts me in the minority, and if the majority prefer jimping, I've got no problem with Guy going that route. Although if Guy went jimpless and one of our service providers offered it as an aftermarket service, I'd be tickled pink.

To jimp or not to jimp....that is the question! I'd love to see this as an option on some knives. I also like the softer jimping of the older S!Ks, but I haven't had my second cup of coffee yet.....

I generally like jimping, provided it doesn't act as a cheese grater on my thumb. I prefer the less aggressive jimping of the old spec models. The 3.5 and jimpless 4.1 are preferable for game processing, so I have switched to the jimpless 4.1 for my personal carry rig. In my opinion, jimping should do the job without calling attention to itself. It should provide traction without attracting my focus or even awareness it is there.

A major concern of knife handles is that they don't create hot spots through prolonged use. This same standard should apply for jimping.

A while back, I picked up a 4.1 jimpless in 3V. I learned that I prefer the jimping in the 4.1 sized knife, and I gifted the jimpless version to a colleague. This is true at least with the old 4.1 design. I hope to have the new design in the upcoming run to compare to the old style.

That was a very nice gift, Mac. I haven't had a 4.1 yet, but that jimpless is one I'd like to try, or this new model which looks very good.
