NEW 4.7 Thread

So unless I have missed a few it looks like the only 4.7 1st's that are out "in the wild" are in 3V...
It seams like Guy is working on all those first then moving on to the 20CV, anyone else notice that?

Most likely this is true. I'm sure there was 3x (+) the orders for 3v then 20cv. Keep in mind there is also cpm 154, and the sk series all in 4.7 range.

I think you're right with your observation, but it's hard to tell what their plan is.

There are a few 20cv's out there also.
The CPM-154 will be cool to hear about. I want to see what people think about it.

That's a good question considering some people won't say that in their sale posts.
I'm pretty sure that WildsoulV's was a first. I could be wrong.

Yeah for sure, just an observation. But it sounds like there may be a few out there...
So, is the CPM 154 more corps ion resistant than the 20? What's the advantage or draw?

It also looks like the 4.7 is (as of now) the only GSO available in the 154, seams like the 4.7 is the "test" mule between the CPM 154 and the Cru forge V.
Pretty cool!

It is the CPM version of a still very popular older ingot steel. In the context of this knife it was billed as being a bit tougher than 20CV.
Guy said he ran this because he had received requests for a knife in CPM-154.
My opinion is that since bushcraft type tasks don't seem to require a lot of abrasion resistance CPM-154 would be a good alternative to 20CV.
Edit: I sharpened the kitchen knives this weekend and I just recalled that I have similar knives in both 20CV and CPM-154.
Of those two knives the 20CV seems to hold an edge better, but the damage was all very small chips.
The CPM-154 knife took edge damage by deformation and while it was duller it was also quicker to restore to a clean edge.
As I recall both knives are at about HRC 61-62.

Any others waiting for there factory 2nd order from 5/30? It might be time to take down the language on the site saying these will be ready to ship in 15 days.

Dang nephew, I really thought all those orders were out! My condolences.

They really should remove all the time frame references from the website, but I suppose that would result in even more calls from customers.

I hate to say it, but it's always been a lose/lose for them.

Turning it into a win would be setting projections that they're able to meet. I don't know what that takes on their end, but if other knife makers can do it, well then by golly so can SURVIVE!

It's obvious Guy is doing other things, definitely not the starters. The problem certainly is not because he is the only one that can sharpen. I would think if Guy wanted to, he could sharpen 100 blades before lunch. I don't doubt that the knives are coming, just with a longer than anticipated wait.

Stuff like this has started to irk me, if you have not been able to tell already from the change in my mood vis a vis preorders. Continuing my commitment to my 2 preorders but keeping a very close eye on how many satisfied customers come in here in the next few months to rave about their fulfilled orders and knives in hand, instead of disappointments and dissension!

Well, you say 100 in jest but no reason as to why not about 10-15 a day, putting the fulfillment output in the range of 50 - 75 units per week!

I think that Guy is doing a lot more than just sharpening the knives that leave his shop.
At the very least he is doing the peened finish and laser etching as well, and he has been talking about texturing scales as well.
His famous attention to detail shows in the final product.

Yes, those tasks too!
