i've spent part of the evening shirking paid work, and instead, bolting osage orange wood hangle by oregon'FAL dude onto a BK10... i like it. a lot. pictures later b'tches :> the micarta is shiny too.
then i spent time watching StarTrek: Enterprise on Netflix, while letting my hands wander over the Edge Pro and sharpening up some Eskabars and Remoras.
after marking these with sharpy, and determining correct angles, it's interesting to note that many of them have ... inconsistent and rather poor grind. esp near the handle/cho area. like the grinder took a little more bite then smoothed out towards the tip.
this is obvious with the sharpy removal over an entire edge, but not something you can SEE naked eye. after many passes at 220 grit, which approximates factory grit, iirc. there are spots that will "sharpen out" but it's quite obvious there's some potential error and variation. over 4 knives, over some months of purchase of each, there is something of a pattern.
in the near future, i'll try my hand at some BK10 porn, and various new handles i've been courteously gifted will make appearances on various Becker appliances. as well, i've picked up some sheaths, including some purple Kydex for an Eskabar (of note is that a BK13 san-mai model is THICKER than a typical BK14, and will not fit, but the BK14 fits like a snick-snick glove)... good stuff.
back to Trek... and the rum !!!
