Mostly corn and beans, but there are nice spots. Shawnee National Forest is a beautiful place. Giant City State Park, Garden of the Gods, etc. My wife and I are going to go to Starved Rock State Park next week. Should be a good time. Here's a few photos of Starved Rock, not my own.

Wow, that's beautiful!! I can't wait, in February/March, when I come home, my wife and I will be renting a cabin in the mountains in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Sevierville area and doing a little hiking/exploring with my little boy!

Oh heck yes. My wife and I were going to rent a cabin in Crosby, Tennessee, about 18 miles from Gatlinburg, but funds were a little low. That's why we decided on Starved Rock. The difference of 288 miles round trip, compared to about 1200 round. Big difference. Perhaps next year. I'll be back to work here in a few weeks, so we'll have a little more money.

Sweet! Yeah, I love any reason to get outside into the woods. I would live in a cabin out in the boonies if my wife would allow it!

Tons of great places to hike in the area. If you are looking for a short but somewhat strenuous one, have a look at Chimney Tops. It's only a couple of miles each way but a good climb up and a good view from the top...
