Benchmade New Benchmade 756 MPR $340 WTF?

The rike Damascus hummingbird mentioned here is as low as 99.00 it blows this benchmade out of the water for less than 1/3rd the price.....

Hi Chuck, welcome to Bladeforums.

Chris Reeve Knives (CRK) Sebenza. They make large and small.

Thanks for he information! I’ve liked knives for a few years but never participated in a forum so I’m not familiar with the terminology. I actually have a knife by Chris Reeve (its fairly small and looks like the picture that was posted except the handle has some holes machined into it that don’t go all the way through). Right after I bought the knife, the pocket clip got sprung. I called up and asked about a replacement but they were fairly expensive and not covered under warranty even though the knife was new . After that, I turned that knife into a letter opener since I was afraid it would fall out of my pocket and didn’t want to spend any more money on that knife. I bought a Benchmade and a ZT. ( I have even bought a couple more since then. My wife is not thrilled! )I am hoping to use the 756 as my every day carry since I have a desk job and don’t want to look like I’m carrying a big knife. I’ve had really good luck with Benchmade customer service so far. I’ve had a river knife from them for years. It was rusted and the sheath was broken. I Called them up and they told me it was a collectors model and cleaned it all up for me. ( and I bought one of their newer models and retired that one) I’m looking forward to checking out the 756 in person but I’m not real thrilled about the price

I got mine for $75. I don’t know if I’ll carry it but it’s a neat knife to own and well made. Basically like the Espada but on the opposite end of the size scale.

I think this is a classic example of what Benchmade thinks they can charge for a knife. I mean a standard $200 Benchmade is 154cm or s30v, maybe some g10, and maybe a full liner. There are some out there with these materials at $65. But its a Benchmade and has the Axis lock and the reputation so the price is set high. Then they take a nice sellable design, add titanium and slap a price like $340 on it. There is more titanium and more 20cv from ZT for 100 bucks less. I think there should be a discussion whether Benchmade can charge these kind of prices anymore. Especially with examples of poor fit and finish that have slipped through the cracks in recent years.

I understand if people like the knife and think it’s something they want but I think we all need to take a stand. At $340 this knife makes absolutely no sense and we should try and convince anyone considering buying it to not buy it. Benchmade sets these absurd prices simply because they can and people will pay it. I think it’s time to put our foot down because to me this is insulting. I understand that the size doesn’t make it that much cheaper because all the work has to be done to it still and the materials aren’t that much different than a full size but let’s get real. This is a complete rip off and I’d truly like for someone to convince me otherwise because maybe I’m ignorant to something but I just can’t see how they justify it.

What about that Shane Sibert? He must be a real piece of work conspiring with Benchmade, an American manufacturer, to make his highly sought after designs available to many rather than waiting years and a couple thousand dollars for a custom. Definitely a ruse to produce this junker

I agree it’s expensive but seeing as how I can only see a small photo on a computer screen at this point I will reserve judgement until I can see it in person. It might just be surprising.

I love raindrop Damascus. Not to make this thread about the Hummingbird but...c'mon that's nice..even my girlfriend wants one haha

You can't roll your eyes at something that hasn't been said. :)

To your point (I think) behind the sarcasm that this knife presents an opportunity to get a Sibert design for a non-custom price, that already exists at much cheaper prices elsewhere in the Benchmade lineup, i.e. Adamas, Arvensis, Bushcrafter, etc.

Yes thanks for acknowledging the sarcasm, I was amittedly stoking the fire a little. I like Benchmade no ducking that so I defend them more often than not. The other Sibert models they have done are fine examples but can anyone say for certain just how much time and resources go into this model? Maybe it’s a machining masterpiece, who knows? At least see what it’s all about in person IF this knife is your sort of thing before passing it off as a overpriced trinket.

I went to the store and held one today. Here are my observations although I’m pretty new to knives so I will probably miss out on some of the subtleties

- it has quite a heft to it
- since it isn’t very long, it weighed my shorts pocket down in a weird way
- you must watch your palm so you don’t catch it when you flip it
-it was obviously not very broken in and took some effort to flip
-not much handle to hold on to
- has a real nice feel to it. Everything was tight and blade detent did it’s job
-the blue trim looks nice
- I like the pocket clip design and sturdiness
- I took a few pictures but there seems to be no easy way to post them from my iPad

Perfect thanks for checking it out and letting us know your thoughts.

756 looks like a cool design but too small and expensive. If they just did 3-3.25 blade I would be all over it.
