Benchmade New Benchmade 756 MPR $340 WTF?

Benchmade Sibert = 755 for the win

Spyderco and Benchmade have gone bananas with their pricing as of late. I refuse to pay what they are going for. The only BM I will buy currently is a Bugout, or a custom Grip with M4. Spyderco is a little better but not by much.

My dad used to carry a BM 943. He lost it. He carried it for 2-3 years. When I bought it for him, it was $140. I can accept that. Now if I want to replace it, I have to pay $182. Not happening. He'll get something just as good, but less expensive.

Honestly, I wish more folks would stop buying high priced knives like this one, so the manufacturers would get the point. Vote with your wallet.

While I agree that some are overpriced from Benchmade and Spyderco, there are some great value knives from both. For example, the Freek/Mini Freek as well as the Bugouts are great value buys.

over the decades i'll admit i've owned a _lot_ of ugly knives and that hummingbird is the queen of ugly. but thanks for bringing my attention to it so i can avoid it like i'd avoid a rattlesnake. i love real hummers and that would scare them away!

i don't own too many benchmades, but i totally agree that the new bugout model is a fantastic knife! i thought it was a little high at $125, but it's slim and light and you can flip it open and closed with just the merest twist of your wrist--no need to use the thumbstuds (which i detest), just pull back on the lock and flip. i have dozens of edc knives i rotate and it's one of my favorites, not least because they had the combo blade option for it.

i've been the most impressed lately by the spyderco para 3 models. love that hole--faster than an automatic when you get used to it. i'd say about 60% of my knives are spyderco models.. i have two of them including the ugly blurple one and i might spring for the carbon fiber sprint run as well. they are superbly smooth with impeccable fit and just right in size for a larger edc carry--the para 2 was too large by far for casual carry which is why the para 3 was developed in the first place.

i ordered one of these mpr's today and i do have a concern it might be too thick. i like the titanium and the size because it will make a perfect match to my tiny titanium olight edc flashlight. i got it via amazon so there's no hassle whatsoever to send it back if i don't think it's going to be worth the nosebleed price.

I don’t know about queen of ugly; we could probably come up with some better options for that crown. I will say that it has a lot going on in a tiny package. I’m not nuts about the looks but it’s a neat, well-made knife. It reminds me a bit of some of Ferrum Forge’s later releases which I really didn’t care for.

When I first saw that little guy I was all over it.
When I saw the price I thought to myself that maybe I have enough knives. Definitely enough Benchmades... They're going crazy with their pricing, and I don't want to support that.
This is the part where buying global becomes more interesting.

So we got these in stock today. I was not sure what to think, especially with the comments on here. To my surprise I like it. They are sitting dead centered, flip well, and just something very different. The word Micro is definitely a good description. Certainly not for everyone.

I believe they are great knives but really pricey and I wish they came out with 755 model in all titanium.Cheers.

I felt one in a local store and they felt awful. They do not flip well and are too small for me.

No. Just, no. It's wrong on so many levels.

If I want something small, micro-sized, I'll grab a Gerber EAB. Less than $15 and a better slicer than this micro beast.

What's the purpose of the tiny hatchet-type thing?

It’s a small multi-tool (Graham Hawkit): blade, screwdriver, bottle opener, pry bar, and it has a hex hole to accept 1/4” bits. I actually use it more than most of the knives I carry, especially the bottle opener and pry bar.

I know this is an old thread but I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago from a local shop so I figured I'd update it. I got the 756 for $250 which is still pricey but better than most other prices I’ve seen. Overall, I like it. I’ve fond of small blades, especially since my current office restricts blade lengths to less than 2.5”. If not for that I might not have picked up this one but I’m always on the lookout for different stuff I can carry at work. I’m glad I got it. It’s very well made and flips well. I think it’s a pretty good example of this knife type (small blade flipper). However, I would not pay the retail price. I’m happy with it for $250 but that would probably be my ceiling. You can get into a lot of nice stuff at that price.

Here are a few examples of things I’d look at. I was able to get all of these for close to the 756’s retail price or probably less.
  • Graham Razel Stubby Flipper: I've got a pair of these. I picked up one for about $275 and traded into the other at a value of about $300. They are similar in size and function to the 756 but more unique. I'd take it over the 756 at a similar price.
  • Curtiss Nano: I've also got a pair of these, each picked up for the same deals as the Razel. I'd definitely take this over the 756 at a similar price, especially since it can be opened via the hole which I prefer.
  • Serge Bean: This one isn't totally comparable to the 756 since it's not a titanium frame lock and actually doesn't lock open. But it you need a small blade and want something pretty nice and unique, I think it's a good choice. Actual US-made Beans are crazy difficult to get and expensive. The Serge P versions are available for about $150 or a little less. BlackFox makes my favorite version for about $45. I prefer them because they don't open via a flipper (see a trend) and they are very nice for the money.
  • Spyderco McBee: Once again, not a direct comparison but this is one of my top picks for a smaller blade. It really does everything I need a blade to do on a daily basis.
