Benchmade New Benchmade 756 MPR $340 WTF?

756 looks like a cool design but too small and expensive. If they just did 3-3.25 blade I would be all over it.
Yeah, it looks be a two fingers grip on the 756? Way too small for me. 3 inch blade, full grip, and $200 I would be all over it.

I thought this was a limited edition where only 1000 were made or something... Then the price would be acceptable. Otherwise it's an ugly joke. Collectors gotta collect though.

Well, you're assuming they're going to sell more than 1,000 as it's not a limited edition. At this price, that's a large assumption ;)

Yea maybe they thought these wouldn't fly off the shelf so they priced it accordingly. That would make sense.

They make these, price them as such, and people buy them. I know knives I'd rather have @ half that.

I went to the store and held one today. Here are my observations although I’m pretty new to knives so I will probably miss out on some of the subtleties

- it has quite a heft to it
- since it isn’t very long, it weighed my shorts pocket down in a weird way
- you must watch your palm so you don’t catch it when you flip it
-it was obviously not very broken in and took some effort to flip
-not much handle to hold on to
- has a real nice feel to it. Everything was tight and blade detent did it’s job
-the blue trim looks nice
- I like the pocket clip design and sturdiness
- I took a few pictures but there seems to be no easy way to post them from my iPad

Just based on this description, it sounds a $100 folder to me.

Sure, the price looks bad but Bladehq.com is sold out!

uhhh.....what?! For real?! That is just silliness.

Being a dabbler into the world of custom knives, I can totally understand how hardcore Sibert fans will absolutely jump on this regardless of price - but for the average person, I really don't get it.

I also really agree with the above posts encouranging that someone take a stance against Benchmade's pricing scheme. #boycottBM76 ???

I got a 755 brand new for 125.00. Would much rather have it.
I still have my BM 755 from 2010. It was my second good knife I got and I never have used it or carried it. I did throw away the box as I never intended not to use it.

$157 out the door back then(I just searched the old shipping email). Crazy a mini version is 340!

How did my pic of my Mantra get in this discussion?

I must be missing something here, because for the life of me I cant figure out why the new MPR is $340. I love the knife, just seems like a really cool ass $200 knife at best. Benchmade is a bit overpriced, but usually not by much considering.
The screws arent TI, theyre just coated steel. It has typical barrel spacers. THe blade is 20CV and the handles are Ti, but again its a very small amount as the blade or handles arent thick or large or have difficult machining.
I look at the techno and its around $200. I cant for the life of me figure out why the price is so high on the 756. Its really cool but is Benchmade just plain shafting knife collectors because they figure they can? What is going on with the $340 price tag and is it justified? Is anyone gonna take it stiff and hard and shell out the money for the 756?
761 is very bad at pivot, even chinese knives are better, stainless washers dont break like bm or zt Ti by bearings. For half price. Stupid as hell.

Any reason cost wise why it could nit be closer in price to new Spyderco McBee at 130 bucks.

I like that.
Taichung Spydercos tend to be a lot of bang for the buck in my opinion, maybe due to reduced labor costs. I think their Taiwan models have the best fit & finish, better than the US and Japan models I’ve got.

I worked for a high-powered, largest-on-the-globe portfolio management firm. Man, were we how stuff! Ask any one of us.

Boss had a quip: "The marketplace is always smarter than we are!"

Spyderco and Benchmade have gone bananas with their pricing as of late. I refuse to pay what they are going for. The only BM I will buy currently is a Bugout, or a custom Grip with M4. Spyderco is a little better but not by much.

My dad used to carry a BM 943. He lost it. He carried it for 2-3 years. When I bought it for him, it was $140. I can accept that. Now if I want to replace it, I have to pay $182. Not happening. He'll get something just as good, but less expensive.

Honestly, I wish more folks would stop buying high priced knives like this one, so the manufacturers would get the point. Vote with your wallet.

over the decades i'll admit i've owned a _lot_ of ugly knives and that hummingbird is the queen of ugly. but thanks for bringing my attention to it so i can avoid it like i'd avoid a rattlesnake. i love real hummers and that would scare them away!

i don't own too many benchmades, but i totally agree that the new bugout model is a fantastic knife! i thought it was a little high at $125, but it's slim and light and you can flip it open and closed with just the merest twist of your wrist--no need to use the thumbstuds (which i detest), just pull back on the lock and flip. i have dozens of edc knives i rotate and it's one of my favorites, not least because they had the combo blade option for it.

i've been the most impressed lately by the spyderco para 3 models. love that hole--faster than an automatic when you get used to it. i'd say about 60% of my knives are spyderco models.. i have two of them including the ugly blurple one and i might spring for the carbon fiber sprint run as well. they are superbly smooth with impeccable fit and just right in size for a larger edc carry--the para 2 was too large by far for casual carry which is why the para 3 was developed in the first place.

i ordered one of these mpr's today and i do have a concern it might be too thick. i like the titanium and the size because it will make a perfect match to my tiny titanium olight edc flashlight. i got it via amazon so there's no hassle whatsoever to send it back if i don't think it's going to be worth the nosebleed price.

/guy
