With the economy in bad shape, everyone seems to be tightening their belt. Not us. RAT Cutlery had decided now is the time for a new contest to give away some more knives. Now that the RC-6 Knives have started shipping we're going to do another survival kit contest. Everyone that has a RAT Cutlery knife is welcome to get in on this. So, post pictures and descriptions of your kits in this thread. We will have prizes for the top 3 kits. (more than likely each winner will receive a new RC-4 or RC-6 or something like that). We will run the contest until the middle of December since we have to be away for a bit in Peru doing a couple of survival courses. After mid-December we will lock this thread down and then put up a contest poll that can be voted on for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

:D yay another contest, I can't wait to see some of the pics to draw some ideas from. I probally wont be entering one myself because is still have no RC:(, Oh well sooner or later the Izulas will come out and that will change:)

That is awesome ! I hope to see more entries ! Come on folks post them up,I will not repost my RC4 or RC3 kits from the last contest. If I enter I will post something totally new ... maybe with the pinky or RC6.....
Jeff ,you guys at RC do so much to get your Cutlery out in front of the Other brands by giving away so many RC products with these different Contest...I am Amazed... Great Cutlery,Great Group of Guys ! Jeff/Mike/Shon & the others behind RAT Cutlery.

:D I just realized this contest isn't over until mid-December, by that time I might have an Izula and enter in my kit.

Which reminds me, in a fishing kit alot of times there is a rope with a key ring and a metal spike so you can keep the fish you caught, does anyone else use that in any of their kits or am I a loner:confused:. I think its a pretty sweet thing to have personaly, no only does it have rope but the tip could be used to make a spear or something useful.

good luck dylan

Cool, looking forward to this Jeff, got a few new ideas bouncing around .

Man never thought about adding a stringer to a kit..

I'm in. Are the survival kits suppose to be a small survival kit setup or an all out survival kits, like a BOB, setup?

Doesn't matter how small or large the kit is. Doesn't matter if it's a kit designed for E&E, or for the wilds, or for the streets of New York. As long as it is designed to be for survival and it has an RC knife in it, then it can be entered. Remember, the forum members will be judging it so build what you think will favor well with this crazy-ass bunch of cultists we have here, or just pay all of them off and bribe them after you enter your kit. :D There are really no rules except it has to include an RC knife.

Great contest Jeff. It will be really fun to see what everyone comes up with. :D I'm sure alot of great ideas will be shared.

Hmm... Once the Pygmy Falcon II pack I ordered gets here I will throw something together for this thread. We'll see how that turns out...

All right, this might not qualify but I've got to try anyway. Here's my kit built around a very small daypack that cost me about $16 brand new. It's fairly comprehensive for its size, at least for the things I usually need out in the woods or elsewhere.

Here's the list of contents:

Marmot rain jacket
Wool watch cap
Wool socks
Snowpeak titanium cup with lid
Nalgene 1 liter bottle (fits in the titanium cup)
sewing kit in film canister which also contains some fishing stuff
9 volt LED light (600 hours on low, 80 on high)
Victorinox Camper
RC4 (what I wish I had, and have in this photo thanks to photoshop!) with a suspiciously Becker BK10 looking sheath that contains ferro-rod, snare wire, pencil, fine/coarse diamond sharpener, a small piece of pitchwood, and some hemp twine for tinder.
survival blanket
AMK Thermolight bivy 2.0
BIC Lighter
AA battery powered cell phone charger
large bandanna
15' parachute cord
2 Clif Bars
ziplock bag with several tea bags
Esbit Stove with extra fuel
First Aid Kit in LC1 compass pouch

For scale, the nalgene only fits 1/2 way into the side pockets.

Not pictured: USGI poncho which straps onto the bottom.

With everything in the pack, I can still fit another clothing layer inside, or a fair bit of food. I've done overnighters with this rig and been comfortable enough, though I'd much prefer to have a sleeping bag....

This is my earthquake survival kit. In the event of a bad earthquake, my community would be completely cut off from the rest of LA county, so most everyone up here is prepared. We have emergency radio channels set up by the school district and local HAM clubs, and everyone who knows about the communities potential situation has large amounts of clean water stored in barrels in their houses. My kit goes with my most everywhere, in my truck or in my room at home, because earthquakes are damn near unpredictable.

The sun finally came out, so I took the opportunity to take some pictures of a couple of kits. The first is my main hiking kit, I throw this on whenever I'm heading out to take some pictures or for a hike in the woods. The second is for throwing in the vehicle "just in case" and supplements the equipment already in there, including first aid kit, AMK bivy, and an AMK pocket survival kit.

Here's a couple pictures of the hiking kit:
