New contest for free knives (enter here)

Does the Ontario-RAT Model 1 folder count as a RAT or is it expelled from the club?

From the first post in this thread:

With the economy in bad shape, everyone seems to be tightening their belt. Not us. RAT Cutlery had decided now is the time for a new contest to give away some more knives. Now that the RC-6 Knives have started shipping we're going to do another survival kit contest. Everyone that has a RAT Cutlery knife is welcome to get in on this. So, post pictures and descriptions of your kits in this thread. We will have prizes for the top 3 kits. (more than likely each winner will receive a new RC-4 or RC-6 or something like that). We will run the contest until the middle of December since we have to be away for a bit in Peru doing a couple of survival courses. After mid-December we will lock this thread down and then put up a contest poll that can be voted on for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

This is my fairly simple kit. Just started it pretty recently and it's my first effort so go easy. It's built in a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II. Mainly I intended it for short hikes (day hikes, maybe an overnighter) and hunting. I think it's okay as far as that's concerned. There are some items I'd like to add as time goes on but this kit seems good for now. I may actually spend a night out with it over Christmas break. But anyway, here she be. It contains an RC-3 and an Izula prototype for RAT content.

And the contents:

I'll briefly go over the items, a couple of them are a bit obscure:

-Some garbage and ziplock bags, great for shelter, water, and most of all putting small game in to keep your pack from getting soaked in blood
-Permits for game warden survival
-AMK Personal first aid kit
-Plug for my Benelli--more game warden survival!
-Izula prototype
-some Scott rags
-toothbrush and toothpaste, I hate not brushing my teeth in the morning!
-pen
-more parachute cord
-light camo gloves and face mask, too easy to forget so they'll always just be here
-compass
-surefire 6P with LED and extra batteries
-pill bottle stuffed with lint for tinder
-firesteel
-Spyderco pocket stone
-extra AA batteries for the camera
-Extra pair of heavy wool socks!
-MSR pot stuffed with a bunch of parachute cord

I also stuff a bunch of extra ammo in it for whatever gun I'm carrying at the time, and sometimes some other things pertinent to the game I'm pursuing.

Here’s kit of a different sort. A little larger than most are posting, but my kit nonetheless. I do wilderness SAR in PA. This kit is typical of what I’ll carry. I also hike with it, so I’m carrying this most of the time when I'm in the woods. The main purpose is to have what I need, in a manner that is accessible in the field without doffing/donning my gear, and without stuff hanging loose or dangling so I don't lose it!

It’s built on a Practical Tactical Mesa vest platform. The pouches are:
  • TT multi-purpose pouch (2x)
  • TT compass pouch (1x)
  • TT small utility pouch (1x)
  • TT knife pouch (1x)
  • TT Mod hydration carrier (1x, seasonal, used for cold weather items)
  • Maxpedition admin pouch
  • Specter Gear GP utility pouch, vertical (2x)
  • HSGI radio/utility pouch (1x)

Thanks to Jeff and RAT Cutlery for putting on these contests!

Not dissing your kit but I do have an observation: I would figure doing wilderness SAR you would have a bright colored vest instead of OD and black. You work in tactical environment also?

I have an orange vest. It was in my coat pocket when I took the pics. That's why my gear list says (not shown).

Orange is required in PA to follow the hunting regs.

Very cool kit! I've been wanting to see a good molle kit based around a vest mount.

Here is the Kit that rides in my truck.

I keep my convexed RC4 mounted to the shoulder strap, which is removeable if I only need to carry the FAK, or if I need the tool bag. If I need both, It goes on the tol bag, and the FAK has a Blackhawk riggers belt attatched, and I wear it facing front, with the toolbag on my shoulder.

I also keep 5.11 pants, tshirt, fleece, hat, gloves, socks and food in the truck. and 100 rds of .45acp, and my Colt commander. Gun is in locked console and comes in at night.

It all fits in a Huge Flight bag, so I can remove it all at night.

Enjoy!

J Williams...

Holy S$@# dude. That's not a kit. That's the entire ambulance in a couple of buttpacks. Do you have an emergency inflatable pack mule to help you carry that gear? lol.

Ok Guys, we're shutting this thread down. We will post a new thread soon with a poll with everyone who participated in this with a RAT CUTLERY knife. Then everyone can start voting for the winning kits.
