The fit and finish on mine is the worst I’ve seen from Spyderco. There’s some type of glue on the scales I noticed when flipping the clip to tip-up carry. The action is not good, either. I tried loosening up the stand-off next to the pivot but the screw is stuck in the standoff so it just spins and loosens the other screw. With all the glue that came on the clip, there isn’t any blue loctite on the pivot or standoff screw I could get loose.
This is all stuff I can fix with a few torx wrenches and some sandpaper or a dremel. It should be a decent knife once I spend an hour or two cleaning it up and tightening down the screws properly with some blue loctite.
The G10 scales are definitely smooth, as described. It’s a nice feel, even a bit smoother than some aftermarket aluminum scales I have on other PM2’s. The blade is nice and sharp. It’s got the most pronounced grind lines on the side of any Spyderco blade I’ve seen. Just running my fingernail across it, I can feel and hear the grind lines. It’s a true satin finish on the blade, either way.
Edit - came with some sticky stuff on the blade, which is also off center. I thought it was grease at first... it’s greasy. Tried rubbing alcohol, then warm water. Got most of it off. The grind lines on the side of the blade trap a lot of oil / debris. I’m used to wiping a blade off on my jeans or shirt but this texture requires a few alcohol swabs to get everything off. Not easy to keep clean.
I put blue loctite on the stop pin screws and pivot screws. I can’t get the action halfway decent without a lot of blade play. I’ll try disassembling it and adding some lube.
Spent a few minutes trying to scrape the glue off the scale where the clip came from the factory. It’s less shiny but will have to hit it with sandpaper or something and then try to blend it in with the rest of the scale.
So, this isn’t the best PM2 I have. It’s not bad, just nowhere near the quality of my S110V, M4, even the S30V versions I have. After an hour of cleaning and oiling / adjusting it’s ok. The blade centering is still off and the grind lines on the blade will take some getting used to. I’d recommend picking one up from a brick and mortar store so you can check this stuff out but then it’s a KC exclusive. I’m not sure if Cruwear is just inherently hard to work with and the rough grind cannot be avoided... maybe it’s an aesthetic choice. Maybe mine is a one-off. It’s an interesting knife for sure.
