Aeb-l at high hardness!
aebl and 14c28n are great at 62 hrc. If I'm not mistaken Cody at Adventure Sworn tested magnacut around 63hrc and aebl at 62 hrc and determined the aebl not only was quite abit tougher but had more edge stability for wood working, camp chores, batoning ,etc. Less apex damage from use.

That said I love magnacut but the toughness, stability and overall ease to sharpen that fine carbide aebl is better for field use. But of course magnacut is a bit more resist to staining and the vanadium carbides definitely cut longer between sharpening.

Last but not least Zwear(cruwear) and Ztuff are my two favorite non stainless steels, especially with low temp ht protocol to maximize stain resistance and toughness.

I'm a big fan of aeb-l because, among other reasons you mentioned, it's easy to sharpen. I absolutely love the kitchen knives I have in it.

I love z-wear/cru-wear and I think it beats magnacut for my uses and preferences. In my experience the additional abrasion resistance of magnacut isn't that noticeable to me. However, i have noticed that Z-wear tends to be a little less prone to chipping; it seems to just roll in cases that I've had magnacut chip. Plus, it's a dream to sharpen.

Corrosion resistance isn't a big concern for me, but I understand why it is for other people.

I'm going to see if I can run multiple steels. If we can get a big enough order for these I can probably get them CNC ground which would be a DREAM. It will allow me to offer them at a lower price point because I'd save tons of time grinding AND you just cant beat how clean CNC grinds come out.

Wanted to share the 3 Z Tuff prototypes that you guys havent seen yet. They are pictured with the Fell Beast for scale

top to bottom.
1. Fell Beast Legacy Prime - for scale
2. Tropic Thunder Paramilitary - I've been working on this design all year and have gone back and forth through a bunch of renditions. This is an ultra lightweight, super long machete designed for paramilitary applications in tropical regions. It has a 20in blade. I have no idea if this design is even feasible to produce. It might not make it past the hand ground prototype phase. Its probably going to cost too much and be too hard get them straight in HT, but we'll find out. While it may look similar to the Fell Beast, its a completely different tool. It won't have big chopping power or the strength and toughness of the Fell Beast. What it will have is SPEED, reach, and a nasty tip. Its designed to be absolutely as light and fast as possible. It should sail straight through tropical vegetation and whatever else it comes across is some rougher regions of the world. If you know any operators that want to try one of these, let me know.

3. True Grass Machete Mini- this is a smaller rendition of the original TGM with a thicker stock and a shorter 14in blade. Just under 20in overall. This will be fast, light, compact, and hopefully affordable.
4. My Personal EDC. Here's a quick write up:

I've been wanting to do an EDC run but honestly, my old EDC design is solid, but boring. I went back to the drawing board and asked, "What do I actually want to carry?" and went from there.

For me, an EDC first and foremost needs to be a full sized knife that I can comfortably carry. I'm not a fan of really tiny EDC blades. The new EDC is a compact knife but its full size. You can do real work with it, the handle is super comfortable and you can use it all day without hot spots.

Second, I wanted a blade shape thats versatile and slices well. Personally, I dont like a drop point for EDC. This tip is too high and it loses alot of its utility. I wanted a lower tip thats better for opening boxes etc... Third, I wanted a blade shape that allows you to pinch grip and place your index finger on the blade for precise cuts. And finally, I wanted clearance for your knuckles so you can use the blade to cut food on a cutting board. Notice that the blade is lower than the front guard so you can rock and chop like a kitchen knife.

So this is what I ended up with, the original handle with a blade thats somewhere between a nessmuck and wharncliffe. the handle is angled to create knuckle clearance and the blade is lower than the guard for food prep.

Not sure what steel I'm going to do but these will all be thin .125 stock probably ground down to around .110. The Prototype will be Z Tuff.

I might number them #4 being your edc? It took me a couple reads to figure that out....but it's the end of the day, and I had a beer

I renumbered them with the Fell Beast at # 1 😂
Okay top to bottom, I like number 3. I would like something smaller than the fell beast legacy prime.

The TGM mini will be alot more compact and easy to carry. And still pack a solid punch

I like the way your mind works on the Tropic Thunder. I like blades that are practical enough to be carried outdoors, but still let you feel like you could act out a few Aragorn fantasies in the woods.

I have a design in mind for a "wokler" - i.e. a wok-shaped skillet that you could use for camp-fire cooking, but you could also turn the handle inside "for storage", and use it as an ersatz buckler.

Prototype blanks are IN. Going to get these cleaned up and off to heat treat after I finish all the Fell Beast orders.

Everything turned out great and feels awesome. The Tropic Thunder is absolutely wicked and the Mega Boner with choil and the thinner handle is a great combo. Feeling alot better about going with a 12in blade. I was a little scared it would be too big....but hey, its called the Mega Boner afterall 🤣

Your Mega Boner doesn’t look quite so mega next to that TT, or should we call it the Tapir, to keep with the tropical forest theme?

This thing is so tropical we might have to change its name to the Capybara. 😂
Without wanting to get too anatomical, there’s a reason I went with the name Tapir for something that could make a Mega Boner look small. Tapirs are the only animal I’m aware of which have been known to injure themselves by accidentally stamping on their own members.

Don't make me Google that....
