Hope no one minds if I start a new thread, I just thought this would get more attention then posting in the old one.

Gene has been generous enough to find some land for us, however, before we can commit to this area he would like to get a general estimate of who is coming. The location is in Shirley MA, 01464..north central MA..not far from the NH border.

So basically what we need to know is if the trip is the 9-11 of January, would you be able to come and would you bring anyone. Once we have this worked out, we can figure out carpooling so as to limit the number of cars.

Sorry guys- I don't think I'm going to be able to make this one:( Hopefully I'll be able to make a future area gathering:)--> it was good getting together with you all back in september!

:DI will be there;) I believe that the dates are Jan, 9-10-11. That would be Friday the 9th- Sunday the 11th. I would assume friday would be a maybe..with most folks working alot ( like me!!! )...but We could agree that SAT morning, say..9-10 AM is the "launch" and that gives us time to work on our shelters...or camp. Then we could really get into winter techniques.
I was wondering if we should try to build a group shelter...or meeting house. I dont know...whatever we want. I know that snow shoe construction will probubly take place.:D.although I have a pair.
Anyway..I can camp friday night..but the chances of getting there prior to sunset..are pretty slim. It doesnt matter to me..I can do a "BearGrylis" night..live on the edge.
There are alot of critters to track also...should be fun to go out with others that like the cold like me!

The property is in Shirley MA, 01464..north central MA..not far from the NH border.

OH..Andrew..is it OK if we ask Brian to edit the title to say something like "NorthEast CAmpout"...something like that..since its not just CT. I dont know..I was hoping maybe to get some guys from NH or ME involved.

Ya definitely...the more the merrier

I also made some changes to the original post to include some things you posted to make it easier.

If this is gonna be a pain in the rear for you guys in CT..I can drive there. I just want to camp out. I dont care where I have to go..Gene:thumbup:

If I'm not coaching that weekend, I'd love to come up. Keep the MLK weekend open too guys as we are planning a trip in the Adirondacks. More on that another time. BTW, I changed the title of the thread for you as requested.

Thanks Kevin..I was hoping you could make it, keep us informed.

Sorry Guys,
Aggie and I won't be able to make it. If it was in anyother state but Mass, NJ or California we would consider it. Anyway we have so much going on right now. I will miss seeing you guys.

I was really hoping to attend this Gathering of the Tribes on Saturday.

But if I remember correctly, Shirley is just north a Fort Devens and I know what I trek that is for me, especially in the unpredictable winter weather.

So the odds are I will not be attending. :(

I hope that some of us in Western Connecticut can still get together at some point for a day of skills practice/training in winter weather;

...Tony and I have checking out some spots along the Housatonic River in Fairfield County.

I'd totally go were it not for all of the stuff I have going on right around then. Boo. :(

Mike,
Shirley is next to where Ft.Devens used to be. Sorry to here that it is to far. I am still open to going into CT..if its closer to you guys. I bet we could go out into any park and get far enough from people to have our "own" area.
Gene

Gene, I’ve been trying to get permission to camp on some private land, but no luck so far.

I do know some good spots in my area, but we would have to park any vehicles somewhere else and get dropped off near the site, at least that’s how I’ve done it in the past.

There are plenty of places we could do a daytime deal, it’s the over night camping that complicates things.

At least you have found a spot, and that’s cool.

It’s hard for me to justify the 5 to 6 hour round trip (in good weather) for the short time it would leave me to hang with you guys; that’s time I’d rather spend in the woods.

I’m sure we will get a chance to do something down here soon enough, in fact Tony and I have been trying to get together weekly, and Marcelo is also close by; your always welcome to come hike with us if your looking to get away, you know how nice the hills of Litchfield County are.

I wish you all the best with the event up there, and look forward to hearing all about it.

Hmm... It looks like that is 3 confirmed including Gene. I will probably still come, but I am trying to get permission from the boss to do the overnighter. orse case I will come up on Saturday and be there about 0900.

Would there be more people willing to make this If it were in CT?

Marty, would you and Aggie come if it were in CT?

Hey Folks, how is everyone.
How about we just call it the 10th and 11th. Saturday morning until Sunday around 2PM...that way everyone has time to get home for work or school the following Monday.
As of now..I believe we have 3 definite and 2 maybes..am I missing anyone? I might have 2 friends join us, if they decide to tough it out. Gene
