New ESEE folder - the Zancudo

Well, the dozen I ordered have arrived from Knifeworks; and if you love the RAT 1&2 folders like I do, you will positively soil yourself over these babies...

i own a mountain bike made in taiwan. is that close enough?:D plus i only buy US made knives. I wish they would have made an attempt to make one here.

If it's just about buying US made stuff, then it's fair to pass this folder. If you think the quality may be subpar to American made, then that wouldn't be accurate - Spyderco manufactures some of their knives in Taiwan and they rival or even exceed the fit and finish of their US made models. The expenses are also at par with US. And Taiwan is not China! :-D

I feel the price point and steel is just right for anyone to afford, and is an effective marketing tool. I won't be surprised if this is the thought Jeff Randall had as well - by principle they refuse to make money out of things that bring huge publicity to them (which is why you get 3 esee patches for a buck from them).

Aside from a very similar clip, this knife strikes me as a cross between a Leek and Izula for some reason (handle ergos?). Looks like a heck of a deal at $30...might have to get one for my truck.

Like the knife, hate the clip. Seems to happen all too often. Why couldn't they just use the RAT clip or at least hole pattern  ??

Maybe I got a dud, or maybe the incredible quality of the RAT 1 & 2 spoiled me, but this knife does not open nearly as smooth as my RAT's do. It's not a bad knife from the little bit of fondling I've done of it but its not nearly as impressive to me as the the RAT models. This will definitely be a beater for me that I won't mind beating the hell out of.

Oh yes, clips!
On a bunch of knives I get, I make another clip out of titanium. Somehow, they just aren't right, some are plain ugly, too strong, etc.
About the only clip I didn't do anything too was the Spyderco wire clip.

PICS of your highly offensive Zancudo please; first I've heard say anything bad about it, so let's see YOURS.

Not everyone has this option available to them. The hole pattern on the RAT 1 is ideal as Benchmade clips fit on it.

The ones I received for the shop all passed inspection with flying colors. Super zippy pivot on them with no blade play and perfect centering. So the one that's tough to open sounds like a fluke to me.

I'll give Hazy the benefit of the doubt here and say, mine does not open as easy as a RAT II, but I just assumed it's a combination of the framelock, and the smaller thumb studs. It takes a little more effort to overcome the framelock to get the blade started than with the liner lock on the RAT II.

Mine did get better after being opened several times though.

Just got an orange Zancudo today. Very nice knife for the money. The fit and finish is every bit as good as my RAT 1. Stonewash looks great on the blade and locking scale. Deployment is lighting quick. My only complaint is the pocket isn't the greatest, but for a little over 30 bucks I can't complain too much.

I received mine last night. Its a solid little thing. Slightly smaller than i expected. Good lock up opens just like my brothers RAT 1, lightning smooth. Gonna carry it for a few days see how it goes.

$30.? Sold.

Definitely getting one (and an Izzy folder when they come out).
I think ESEE is throwing us a bone until the Izzy is ready. I also
believe that they won't risk their name and sell garbage so I'm
expecting QC to be on point. I trust ESEE and I have no doubt
that they vetted whoever is going to be manufacturing it.

Sorry I forgot about this thread. Please don't misunderstand guys I don't think the knife is horrible or even bad, its just the opening was not the same, smooth as silk, opening my RATs had out of the box. Honestly I think there might be a problem with the bushing or something I'm going to take it apart now and see what can be done. Also after opening it a few times it is smoothing out so that's a good sign. Here are the pics, as demanded :p

Just ordered mine, I need a beater. From the looks of the clip, I'm going to need a new one for sure.
