New ESEE folder - the Zancudo

Clip looks the same as the Kershaw Blur clip.

hazy - let me know if that solved your opening problem. Mine open smooth....once it gets started. I was just thinking maybe it's a super strong detent, had not thought about breaking it down yet.

I think detent definitely played a part, also that washer I posted a picture of. I think some piece of the washer got messed up and caused some rough action. I took it apart and removed both plastic washers (or whatever material it is, probably not plastic) I think this was a bad idea because now I cannot for life of my get this to center at all, I think there's too much of gap now in the pivot. Anyways sucks for me, luckily it was only like $35 shipped so I won't lose sleep.

Hi All,

First post on this forum, so forgive me if I screw-up the etiquette. Just got my Zancudo yesterday and I think it's awesome. Feels great in hand and opens silky smooth. Has anyone notice that the placement of the pillars allow the FRN to flex up from the liner? For the price, it's an awesome folder.

Zancudo is cool, might get one to loan out to NKPs, cheap, sturdy, easy to repair if it gets damaged.

Still hoping that the Esee stainless line gets released soon, can hardly wait for those....

I bought one to try out too for a work companion, fit and finish is indeed wonderful. Mine appears to have bronze washers in the pivot. I will say that this knife is a bear to open, love the crisp detent but it, coupled with poor placement of the thumb stud make it almost impossible to open slowly and smoothly. Seems like I am always fighting the detent, once it does go though it flicks open with authority. Have to see how it breaks in.

I just got mine the other day, and it is not very easy to get open. After seeing a bunch of videos of people opening theirs, I was surprised how much force you need to open the knife. It approaches on being hard to open one-handed. I will have to take mine apart and see if any of the washers are in poor shape like what Hazy ran into. I would guess that I just got unlucky.

I got mine, and it's a little hard to open. But so was my ZT550 when I got it. Just work it for a while and it will loosen. Consider it a breaking in period, just got to work that detent down.

My Zancudo takes a good bit more force to open it than my Rat1.
I doubt the washers are a problem in mine as they seem to be brass ones in this knife.

It feels as if the blade sits in the detent firmly in the totally closed position so I am thinking a little lube plus breaking in will help things out.

Still though I really like this knife.
The profile is a good bit slimmer than the Rat and the frame lock is a nice touch.
Wish it were more lefty friendly but I have come to live with this in all products.

Just an update: I have been playing with mine for about a day, and it's opening buttery smooth now.

OK, for those who think it's a problem opening/deploying the knife single handed is a chore (it's not a switchblade after all), here's a way to do it...place your finger under the thumb stud, (not to the side as we are intuitively accustomed to) and flick it up and out. It deploys just as fast as any assisted folder. ;)

Thanks for the input. Applying pressure "up" as opposed to "over" does help make the opening a little easier, but it is still not very easy.

I tried loosening the pivot screw a little, only slightly, and that did not help matters. It just shifted the blade positioning from centered to the side (such that it actually rubs against the side of the liners).

Aw geeze.....didn't your parents ever tell you not to screw with the screws?:D

I too have the orange version of the Zancudo. It is a sweet little blade, and there is a lot to like about this knife. But that said, it is an inexpensive piece and has some issues. As it was received it was difficult to open due to stong detent, and full seat on the ball. I carry tip up, and when the clip was reversed it locks down the frame lock, which just increases this issue. With a few adjustments to the clip and ball I have it opening fairly smoothly, but I also had to trim back the orange plastic scale to allow room for my old fat fingers. This is easy to do and even after adjustments, the knife looks new since the blade and pivot are fairly sturdy. All in all for the price it is a nice knife, but not meant for large hands, and the detent and clip are in need of some work.

Mine opened just as smooth as.my brothers RAT out of the box.

Pay attention to where your index finger is while opening. Any pressure from it on the lock bar is gonna make it a whole lot harder to open.

I appreciate my RAT-1 for a building lot knife, when I dont want to use my traditional knives for this kind of work.

The Zancudo is in the size range of the RAT-2 so I think it will be a good addition to my accumulation of hard-use-knives... (at least an excuse getting another knife :p )

I love this knife, especially for the price! Smooth opening !

I finally broke down and ordered a couple this afternoon. I really like the Rat I and II, so I figured why not?

I got a couple of these and for the money I am totally happy with them.
