New ESEE folder - the Zancudo

For anyone that's interested:

KnifeCenter.com has these available with camo G-10 scales for $29.99

For the price, I figured what the hell... I can use a good beater, especially with G-10 upgrade.

I highly doubt that the handles are g-10. They advertise the black handle as g-10 as well and it's nylon. For that price I don't think so. Regardless,it's a good knife for thr price point!

That's what the add says. I don't think they can claim to sell G-10 and then give you FRN...any fool can tell the difference and then get a refund.

Did you look at the ad?

I've been tempted to pull the trigger on the KC deal all day. But I'm not sure why I need one of these, except as you say to use as a beater. They were designed by Mike P but are NOT an ESEE knife.

I have an orange handled one and it's nylon, the website I ordered from states they are nylon. Everyone I know on these forums that have one will tell you they are nylon. One of the reviews on knifecenter even says they are nylon. Not trying to start an aurgument, just trying to be helpful.

I didn't think you were trying to be argumentative.

If it's FRN they're getting it back and paying the shipping.

Just had to throw that out there. A couple of websites have stated they are g-10 since they were originally released. It's a great knife for the money.

It's the same "nylon 6" used on the RAT folders, which are made in the same factory in Taiwan.

I have the orange one as well. It's FRN, not G10.
They also advertise the knife as a 3" blade, but I believe it's actually a tad-bit under that – 2.94" if i'm not mistaken.
Still a great knife, but that's 2 detail errors they missed.

KC listing the camo one as G10 is the reason I ordered it yesterday, if it comes in 2 more days and its FRN I'm going to be pissed.

They were designed by Mike P but are NOT an ESEE knife.

ESEE fixed blades are made by Rowen Manufacturing in Idaho. Rowen has made knives for Becker and others as well. The machetes are made by Imcasa in El Salvador. The canvas MOLLE sheaths/attachments are made in Mexico (last I heard). I'm not sure who makes the plastic sheaths or other accessories. But ESEE does not 'make' knives or indeed any of its products. The Zancudo is as ESEE as anything ESEE, it just happens to be made in Taiwan. *shrug*

I got excited when I first saw the G10 Zancudo but if you look closely all the Zancudos on Knifecenter are listed as G10 and one of the reviews says that its really FRN not G10. I remember the same mistake being made with the Rat folders. Still my favorite $25 knife though:)

It's been listed as G10 since day one, and Knifecenter, Knifeworks, and every authorized reseller knows it's not, but list it as such because the distributor, Blue Ridge Knives continues to describe the scale as G10. Those of you who doubt it, and are already "pissed" and want to send it back should start getting ready to do without the knife. If the knife had G10 at that price, I would be highly suspicious of the quality of the steel and the construction. As it is, it's worth every penny and more. The scale, btw, is simply a Zytel like material, a nylon resin thermoplastic, impact resistant polyamide. It cannot be called Zytel because DuPont, who owns the patent, requires that the use of their product name must be advertised as such, and found stamped somewhere on the product.

Lastly, the fact it's made in Taiwan is a huge plus....not China, but Taiwan, which has a reputation for excellence in manufacturing of all things metal...knives, bicycle frame sets, etc.

The Zancudo as well as Taichung Spydercos have completely changed my veiw on knives being made in Taiwan and IMO they are now every bit as good as Japan or the US as far as production knives are concerned.
