New ESEE folder - the Zancudo

Some folks will never be happy unless they're absolutely miserable, and create a lot of drama and phony outrage over nada. If they can get more folks miserable like them, they themselves become even happier; go figure.

wake me up when the izula folder comes out, and quality made in the US.

How about the option of not waking you up at all? You always have an opinion and they rarely make sense to me. You love to presume that a foreign made knife and a quality made knife are two mutually exclusive things. Well 'wake up', they're not. I'd much prefer you silently wait for your 'US quality' than spread your condescending remarks in the meantime.

I missed the orange, but that red is pretty snappy. Guess I must be "light in the sneakers", whatever that means! :D

You didn't miss it- the orange one is a Knifeworks exclusive, the red is a bladeHQ exclusive and the digicam is knifecenter, the black, tan and OD are non exclusives and sold by each of the dealers.

You've made my day, brother. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I just ordered the orange from Knifeworks, and the red from BladeHQ. I'm a happy camper! I love my Rat 1 as an every day carry, and its country of origin doesn't bother me (well unless it's China. Got nothing against the people, just a political thing for me).

Edit: Strike that. The shipping charge carried the Knifeworks blade past what I was comfortable paying for this knife. So, BladeHQ's special it is!

Anyone that got theirs, how was the back edge of the scale? Mine is really jagged, little "hang-nails" all around.

The scale also seems to be attached very weakly- barley catching it on your pocket, or just slightly even prying with your fingernail and it lifts away from the liner even tho it uses 3 [small diameter] stand off's.

Just to get a non-technical opinion I gave it and my rat-2 to my wife and she immedentally pointed out the scale issue and the poor printing job on the digicam, its pretty much tan wih a few splotches of green and black. She said the rat-2 was more than twice the quality (she also has no clue that the rat costs, she did buy the zancudo tho)

Now I know its a <$30 knife, but so is the rat-2 I was directly compairing it with. The difference between the two, the rat-2 is a $30 knife that's a excelent value and could be sold for much more if it said benchmade or spyderco on the side of it- the zancudo is a $30 knife and that's about what its worth... I do like the logo tho!

Edit: I'll add another good point abot it- I love the feel of the lock bar, usually I don't much like frame locks but I do like this one, feels the same as a CRKT ripple wih the bevel on it and the tension and how thin it is.

I'll still keep the red one that I've got on route, but it won't get the pocket time I was hopin it might.

So do you not like the knife or are you just upset about the false advertising?

I was intending to return this knife due to the false advertising. However, I have to admit that I really like it, for a $30 knife at least. Knifecenter was very courteous when I called them (before I received the knife).

It feel pretty sturdy and mine doesn't have any if the QC issues Cereal Killer's does. The scale looks fine, there's zero blade play, & even has perfect centering. I do agree the Camo print isn't the best but I'm not too concerned with that. Anyway, for $30 I've decided to keep it. I still would prefer G10 over FRN any day but for me, at this price point, it won't make that much of a difference.

My coyote brown Zancudo should be arriving tomorrow so I'll post some thoughts (and pics) then...thanks for the info guys.

WHAT!? Seriously? What a freaking joke...

(Fwiw I own both ray's and love them, I also got them knowing full-well it was FRN) its just crazy the same people do the same thing on almost the same knives. What dealers specifically listed the rat as G10 when it came out? I will be adding those to my do-not-deal with list aswell, do use consumers not deserve the truth? If this were china heads would be literally rolling.

I don't remember the company, but I know the orange ones were advertised as G10 at first, and it was an exclusive. It's probably whomever is selling the orange Zancudo this time around. I bought an orange one and realized it was plastic, but I sort of expected it. Everyone on the ESEE forum (on their site) was shocked when they came out advertised as G10 for that price. Again, I love my Rat 1, plastic and all. As for foreign manufacture, my CS Gurkha is stamped "CHINA" and is perfect in every way. It comes down to quality control. I embrace the whole "buy America" idea, but won't pass up a good foreign product. I've seen too much crappy QC and poor customer service in US made products to be a snob:D Take care.

Couple months ago I started making my own micarta and G10 handles. After a while I came to feel it wasn't a profound improvement over well textured FRN. Dunno, maybe you guys just have sensitive hands. I'll only do it now for aesthetic purposes. A $30 folder is a user not a safe queen or wall hanger. Pretty isn't a concern for me. All this whining reminds me of women nit picking over drapes or handbags. I care about how well it's made and functions. Ordered one from knifeworks a couple days ago. Should be here this weekend.

For me its 100% the issues I had, I don't mind FRN (tho I sure prefer G10, one reason being when its cold out G10 doesn't feel as cold as FRN and it hasn't been above 20* here in a week).

One side is entirely exposed metal and you're worried about the FRN being colder than G10?

.

Worried? No, someone asked what a general question about what G10 did better than FRN and I answered.

If your only concern is how well its made I doubt you'll be happy, that is if the sample I got is any indication of build quality, now I have and love a few different <$30 knives and this one doesn't hold a stick to them.

Thanks for callin me a woman, I really appreciate all the friendlyness in this thread, usually this forum is nothing but the most friendly people, I guess that's what happens in a thread about a $30 knife, if it was a $100 knife the atmosphere (and the people) would be very different. I'm done with this thread- all I've tried to do (and festers85 too) has been try to help people but you guys freaking jump all over people for nothing. I'm one of the two or three people who have received one- I posted my thoughts/opinion on the [poor] build quality...

Lmao Palomino just called you fellas out as having sensitive hands! FRN is likeable to me I don't see what the big deal is.

The funny thing is that if this folder was manufactured in the USA in its exact form, using the same materials with the exception of using 440C steel, and had an MSRP of $150.00, the less than a handful of wambulance drivers complaining would refrain from posting ridiculous observations of a folder that to date, has been well received, and who's sales have surprised even the designers as well as Blue Ridge Knives, who btw funded this line of affordable folders. The good folks at BRK as well as the design studio aka ESEE are so confidant in this knife, that a 20% or so larger bigger brother will be manufactured and made available in January. Say what you will, but most with a keen eye focused on quality and bang for the buck will find the Zancudo more than a great alternative to other production modern knives in this price range. In the mean time, we should indulge in a bit of wine and cheese in this thread, and save the hysterical whining for that other no holes (or would that be holds?) barred sub-forum where folks throw scat at each other.

Looking at the Zancudo if it was a Spyderco and they called it a Delica with FRN handles would anyone care then? Just saying... The Delica is a rocking good knife and an awesome grippy handle for the price.

A bigger brother version sounds good. Thank you Sir, for the heads up.

I don't see any whining in this thread other than people complaining about whining. If you don't like what you read, move on. What's the point in letting people know your delicate sensibilities are offended if you can't achieve something constructive in the debate? (Oh look, I just did the same thing!).

People aren't whining if they expected g10 and receive FRN. It's a simple issue really but, in the end, not a big deal. It's a fine little knife, especially for $30. Seems like CK got a bad one. Mine's rather nice.

My input has been delayed once again. Ordered from Knifeworks Monday, was supposed to be here yesterday but didn't come. Mail already came today and still not here. (not a Knifeworks issue, a USPS issue)
