New GEC #14 Boys Knife

I'm curious how those of you with the two-blade #14's feel about the size of the secondary blade. I only ordered/reserved single-blade #14's because I'm not usually fond of very small secondary blades (also why I passed on the Beagle). I like the size of the secondary pen blade on, say, a #77 Yankee Jack, but anything smaller than that and I'd just as soon have a single blade, or a full-size secondary. Just wondering what you all think about the size of that secondary on these.

Speaking of full-size secondary blades, I'm really hoping for a #14 version of the Farm Boy at some point. :D :D

I was thinking the same thing as you.. too small of a secondary. I was guessing the secondary would be difficult to open without blade rub because it's so small. I'd end up pushing it into the liner. My other thought was the primary would be easier to open without the secondary in the way. All speculation on my part since the 14 is a new pattern, and I have no idea what the pulls would be like.

Cbr, pretty sure the Boy's Knife is going to be just like the Barlow, pen behind the main so you won't have to worry about it being in the way.

I echo the thoughts behind such a small secondary though. I don't see much use in it.

I actually like to have a small secondary like the the pen blade on a peanut. I use it to open packages and make small cuts where it's hard to reach with the main blade. The plastic tape used to seal a bag of bread here in Holland for example: with a small secondary I'm able to cut the seal without puncturing the bag so the bag can be sealed again to keep the bread fresh [emoji4]

Has anyone been notified by a dealer in regards to their early reserve? I know some single 14s have shipped out and I did my reserves in early April. Just wondering if I missed the train.

Thanks bud. I reserved a single ebony but I know not as many of those shipped out. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The#14 Boys Knives will start showing on dealers shelves any time now. :D:D:D

I got a notification for the rust red as well. Should ship out on July 5th

Well I ended up ordering a rust red. Bird in the hand I guess. Still holding out hope for my single ebony. :)

Barry's ivory bone run is gorgeous. I'm not normally a fan of the ivory bone look, but it sure is a head turner on the #14.

Hope this doesn't break any rules but here goes. For those of you wanting an accessory for your 14 TC Barlows, how about this?

Nice job of photoshopping! I would like to have some of those made!!

I was wondering how long before someone would nail it. Minnesota Twins it is.

Charlie, that is actually the logo of the Minnesota Twins. You can buy them in many different color combinations.

My eight year old son is determined to one day earn a living playing ball. We eat, sleep, and play baseball around here. ;)
