New Griptillian's in Build It Program

I vote for the Stryker, though I do love my Rittilkins in M390!

That new Stryker is awesome looking. Where does one pick that up at?

So, back on topic, sorta….

While I applaud Benchmade for bringing out Griptilian factory scales other than that horrid plastic, something about their grey G10 offering doesn't float my boat. I'm still leaning toward a Franken-knife approach--man, I love NFD's black 550 20CV in those Camp Perry's--or going aftermarket scales like my two Grips below. I went to the BM website to try to build a knife with the blade I want--black sheepsfoot in M4 or 20CV--with the cheap scales I could replace, but found the choices available limiting. There was no M4 at all and if I chose the blade I wanted, it seemed I was stuck with the pricier scales. The only 550 blade option with cheap handles was in 154CM.

I tried coming at it from a few directions and had to clear/refresh to change options and had trouble getting the displayed knife to match the options I'd picked. It seemed kinda clunky. Maybe one has to write or call BM to be sure. Anyone else run into this?

I had no issues with creating an M4 black sheepsfoot Mini-Grip.

I'm loving the idea of building my own: M4 steel, tanto blade, all blacked out Mini-Grip. However, I'm not loving the price... $205 for G10, $145 for standard scales. OUCH.

If you were to buy a 557 and then buy another set of G10 scales you'd have between 150-200 depending on the scales. That's with 154cm, not M4.

Did you order from Benchmade's "Configure" page? I don't even see M4 there as an option and can't seem to configure a Nylon handled knife in anything but 154CM.

Maybe try refreshing or reopening the page...M4 black blade Sheepfoot is there.

I couldn't see the new build options on iphone or ipad but they were visible on my laptop. Maybe the issue?

I guess it must be an Apple thing. I can't get that page to work right (or show M4) on my MacBook on either Safari or Chrome. Won't work or show M4 on my iPad either. I finally got it working on my Android phone. If I have to add the price of a PC to the knife in order to get what I want that'll be one expensive blade!

I'm using a Macbook and Chrome and it shows for me.

Hah. I'm using a MacBook and Firefox and it works.

It works fine for me, and I am on a Mac.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys, and for the link, Billy. I'll have to see if I can find my own way there now.

Something else to play with and spend money on….

Edit: Now that Billy got me to the right place, I put together a blacked-out, full-size grip with sheepsfoot blade in M4 with textured G10 handles similar to Nfd's Camp Perry's that I like so well. At $190 it compares very favorably to the factory grey G10 20CV's from dealers and would be less than building the knife with the plastic handles and adding aftermarket scales.

Glad it worked out, definitely worth a bit extra to build it exactly like you want. Even the all black hardware which doesn't come with normal Grips.

Black liners, screws, and especially the Axis is a definite plus, something I really like about my KSF Stryker. That and the drop-dead-gorgeous CF.

Looks like the Steel Gray coating is $15 more than the Black coating for the M4. Disappointing.

I had that price wrong--must have had 154CM selected. I got it right with the M4 I wanted and it came to $215. I figured oh what the heck, put it in my cart and went to checkout. BM adds in $11.25 tax and their cheapest shipping is 15 bucks, bringing the cost in at over $240--about what I paid for my KSF CF Stryker.

Does seem like a lot for a Grip--albeit a really sweet one. I emptied the cart and will mull it over.
